  • The starter button is on the dashboard (0.11) but what is the silvery button under the pedals at 0.56? Any lorry drivers out there?

  • @paulmurphy42

    It`s the headlamp dipswitch.

  • @merlinbus Thanks.

  • giv us a job

  • I havnt seen this movies since I was a kid...

  • These were fitted with either the flathead Dodge 6 cyl: engine, or the Perkins diesel. This one had a Perkins diesel. Now & again they still show this film, & you know, most people I know still enjoy watching it. I wonder what would happen today should anyone make a new version of 'Hell Drivers".

  • As far as I remember these trucks were a uniform dark bluish colour. As to the driving test. Up to the mid 20th century there wasn't one. You just went to the post office and bought one for 5 shillings. My uncle had an old Ford car and before he passed his test we used to go for spins on a Sunday accompanied by a crippled old man who lived next door to him. This man had a licence he had purchased in the 1920's but had never driven a car. We used to carry him out to the car from his house!

  • @007clooneen AS the film was black and white how can you tell what colour they are, W.W. Drinkwaters trucks were green.

  • @007clooneen That is not quite correct - driving tests were introduced, and became compulsory for private cars, in 1935. I am not sure about lorries though.

  • This is one of the all time great crazy Brit movies where the idea is to not care about anything or anyone. Floor it and worry about the consequences later.

  • I'm still expected to drive like this in 2010 to get my job done in time!

  • is this the polish driving test before they come to england lol ???

  • @bilbobagins1951 Polish drivers are like Mr. Bean compared to the Russians, Lithuanians and Latvians. Our local council has stopped rebuilding the holes in the walls from them overshooting the corners. Unfortunately a lot of them live for today and have a nihilistic view of the future - an unfortunate by product of the late unlamented communist system where individuality was suppressed and ambition was an unknown word.

  • @bilbobagins1951 no they don't even have that

  • This is how you drive series landrovers too

  • just been to gaydon truck show, was good to see 3 Dodge Kew tippers there,i just wonder if anyones ever thought of doing a replica from this film,an wot number would you put on it.

  • @caravans2 I wondered that, it would have to be number 1- but what colour would you paint it? some reckon they were bottle green with black wings but hard to tell in black and white

  • no seatbelts either, and i do believe those country roads at the time would have had no posted speed limit. ¯\(°_o)/¯

  • Seat belts in tippers were only fitted from the factory in the year 2000...!!

  • Great ,very clear picture.

  • yeah man!

  • vosa and the health and safety would have a heart attack.mind you tipper drivers still driver like this today bloody idiots...

  • That's like saying you must be a rapist cos you're a man. There's plenty of tipper drivers I work with that I would trust over anybody else in a vehicle, by far and away. You do still get the some drivers that aren't as good as the others but don't tar every tipper driver with the same brush eh...?

  • @lukeydoeslikey plonker,
