I charge the same price for no lights or a full truss of lights. I don't believe in charging different prices just because I set up more equipment.

@djbriank you should charge, that's wear and tear on equipment that you paid money for and those items will eventually have to be replaced.

@MunicipalAudio I agree, That's why I bought extra lighting and the truss. Not everyone is going to want or even have the room for a truss, so I charge in tiers depending on what they want, whether it be a simple setup which includes up to 3 lights free, a light bar with up to 6 lights or the truss with lasers, scanners, moving heads, etc. then we go to uplighting, and monogrammed GOBOs etc.

@MunicipalAudio That's why I offer separate packages. For $575.00 I offer my basic package of 3 lights and 2000 watt Numark with Serato or Virtual DJ setup for 3 hours. If they want my 6000 watt Pioneer system with Serato or VDJ and 3 lights now were looking at $999.00 for 3 hours. Factor in a 6 light T-Bar (includes the original 3 for a total of 9) add another $250. For the full truss & 15 lights total, add another $500. Uplighting for more, monogrammed GOBO for more, etc. Why wouldn't you?

Nice Vid. Jazzy is a DJ who just got his Virtual DJ mixing set-up to mix video and brags to all his friends how he is the only DJ in town that mixes video. DJs bring more lights to produce an event, that is where the extra cost occurs. Any DJ that is worth anything in marketing knows that you shouldn't bring every light to every gig, you get what you pay for. Am I going to bring my Chauvet Legend 4500s to a small gig?....no. Market everything separate(lights, sound, video) = make more money.

This video was done a while back. Nowadays I do have QSC speakers in addition to my other speaker setup shown in this vid. But the QSCs I have are not the "K" Series, what I have is a step up from the "K" Series, I have the HPR Series HPR 181i 18" subs and the HPR 153i 15" three way tops. A seriously kick-ass system!!

Hey great video, if you are still looking to buy a screen for a truss you should check out Zman87gt Video on making your own, if that is something you might be interested in. It's cheap,fast and works great, you will save $200 to $300. Check out his video on making your own screen.

then you charge extra for what makes you unique, in my area video isn't common, so i charge extra for that.

whats the point in buying these amazing moving heads and impressive scanners if people will only pay for a some crappy LED because its your basic package.

What would you like to know about the truss? It's and ADJ Triangular Dura-Truss.

My lights are back in time? They're all brand new, I bought them all new at the Guitar Center. Maybe the Vertigo looks old because the design has been around a long time. They're all LED. LED is pretty new, not back in time. I know, cuz I've been a DJ for 25 years & we didn't have any of this "back in time". The lasers, the Vue 6, LED panels? All fairly new designs. I guess I'm not getting your point?!

Moving head and scanners are pretty old. I used them in clubs back in the 80's & 90's. The main reason I didn't buy any for my truss is because EVERY DJ in my area has them, I wanted to be different and offer something unique. I probably will get a couple of moving head GOBO lights but no scanners this time.

dj rude - it is amazing to me how similar our dj paths are. im the guy that had friends with the gear, but no talent, so i rocked on their stuff and we all got paid for our roll in the crew! i miss those days! n-e-wayz, I've been getting a bunch of requests for vidz, so its time for a projector/screen option. l think i like the optoma hd20. Fo sho dude, I'm feelin you an this one! I did the clubs back in the day but house parties were huge over here back in the mid to late 80's too. Freestyle & Hi NRG parties with the battlin' DJ Crews and Cha CHa girls promoter parties, flyers and all that, the good old day fo sho!

I'm using a Dell HD projector. I like the Optima too but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this Dell 5100MP because I also bought a Dell laptop as a package deal. I needed an extra laptop anywayz.

Great vid man! very nice! I agree with your thinking too! I like the ADJ truss, I'm thinking of upgrading my cheapo truss to something like the one you have, crank up stands and a more heavy duty truss.

I'm using an Elation CoPilot III. If you notice the two black boxes hanging from each side of the truss bar between the lights. These are the plug/control boxes that feed the rack mounted lighting controller in my rack which is behind the black DJ facade.

What are you using to record video mixes with? Virtual DJ is not really a good program for recording with, it's just a cool little feature not to be used for serious recording. Video mixing however is great with VDJ. You will need to use another program for recording video mixes.

Your best bet is to use an external DVD recorder. Connect it to your HDMI, DVI, S-Video or VGA out into the DVD recorder. If you can, try to pan yourself doing the mix into the video, that's always cool to see.

I'm using Virtual DJ for video. I have Serato Video SL but haven't tried it yet. VDJ is working fabulously for me so far.

For using two screens you need a video splitter, I use and HDMI/DVI/VGA splitter available a Radio Shack or online.

I'm not sure what you mean. I use Virtual DJ to mix the videos. I connect my monitors to the HDMI output on my laptop. You have to configure Windows to allow you to extend your desktop so that the monitors play only the video and the laptop only displays Virtual DJ. Is this what you needed to know? If you want to figure out how to do that let me know. I have a full set of instructions that I put together because I get asked this question a lot. I can send it to you if you'd like.

This is the question. Obviously markets are different. Also sometime fellow DJ's don't want t give out prices. But being Im not near your market. In my videos I will charge from 500.00 to 750 per gig. So question is what do you charge. If you could answer this in a direct message I would appreciated. I need to have a better idea on compettive pricing in different markets
