The United Stated had the problem with the former president Richard Nixon and the Watergate brought him brought .There did not use the force and military coup. There was violent LA riot and angry Muslin mobs , the people were looting, stealing, fighting, burning down the building the military did not turn their guns on the citizen unlike Thai army.

@kopkop056 This tank M41 only have 76mm gun, not enough firepower to penetrate M1A1, but can destroy M2 Bradley. M1A1 use depleted uranium armour encased into steel and have 120mm gun.

Yes except that they came from the 41st Cavalry Battalion that stationed on Tahan Rd., mere 5 km from the house of government. Their primary duty is a TRAINING UNIT for tank operation and familarization.

The best tank Thailand have is M60A3 with modified thermal sight (that is better than early M1 BTW) is stationed around the border provinces to counter possible T55, and T72 blitzkrieg from the neighbours.

Thai dont use a russian build tank and thai goverment had no reason to spend a huge money on arms either. The southeast asian region is pretty much peaceful now (well except burma but there no threat there) as well as most part of the world. We dont need to worry about getting take over by the communist anymore and if we really need help on military we can always call 911-the- usa-world police for the rescue. LOL

I wa son Kho Samit island with my Thai girl freind when this coup happend.We could not get tv,radio or any news for 24 hours while the Junta took over.Had no idiea what was going on.

Well as it happen before! These soldiers are battle ready and it is very iconic for Thai Army to use tank as a symbol of coup, these early cold war era tanks.
