  • If i have a dollar for each pixel in this song, i will have a dollar.

But the audio quality is great, and it's all that matter for battles :D

  • If Aliens came here, we show them this.

  • best live version of this song

  • this is what i listen to when i play lemmings

  • Just as this was ending I had a massive police siren behind me. For the first split second I thought it was part of the track. It was awesome.

  • @Bonecracker101Lol you're retarded.

  • He was right. I heard this sound..now I'm living on the edge of town not sure if I'm a person. Shit man. I really fucked up this time Jimmy.

  • 15 people won't be people when they hear this sound.

  • @freddo92 More like, 15 people are still people after hearing this sound, unfortunately.

  • No thanks.

  • 13 people don't know why John Stanier keeps his crash so high

  • @TheTylrBllmn 13 people don't know that John Stainer is not John Stamos.

  • how can 13 people dislike this? they must be deaf

  • They really sucks' u can even hear the audience boo :P

  • I have a feeling Tyondai is using the EX7 pedal by Digitech. It provides pitch control over a full octave range. Brilliant usage!

  • High, low, high, low. WTF?! Must be the goofy autotune.

  • @vega3410 Pitch shifter. Not goofy-- chilling.

  • @vega3410 It's a vocoder, not autotune.

  • @freddielololol actually, its a ptich-shifting pedal.

  • @freddielololol

    Its echoplex

  • @freddielololol Its a pitch shifter not a vocoder. Vocoder has a different sound.

  • 3:21 shits about to get real.

  • Half of those people don't even know who Battles are. There's just -that- many people in Japan that they shoved some into this venue for a while.

  • He should have said "Konnichi wa, Fuji!" in the filtered voice.

  • cool

  • Possibly the greatest tune ever made!!!!! Battles are god's

  • everyone must praise all of you guys (281 ppl who hit 'likes' button) for having a good taste of music. =p

  • shit.

  • if you ever get very stoned, you sometimes hear music in your head similar to this sort lol

  • @commonpleases i know exactly what your talking about

  • LittleBigPlanet.

  • aaaarrtttoooo ssaaaarrriiiiiii

  • @WeakSignaI YESSS!!!!!

  • Battles is class.

Tyondai Braxton is a fucking genius. His solo work is incredible too.

  • i so agree, its takes really creative minds! thumbs up!!!!

  • Absolutely! This the sound of the dance of the lemmings!!

  • LBP FTW

thumbs up if you know what Im talking about!

  • battles are the new big shit

  • This is truly amazing. This requires some really creative minds.

  • It must be kinda hard to sing with all of those vocal effects going off. The vocalist must have to zone out what's blasting out the speakers and focus on his own voice or something.

  • (L)(L)(L) *_*

  • 日本の民謡って結構かっこよくて上手くやればロックになるかもって気づかせてくれた。

    しかしこの声は合わないな。

  • are you from the moon?

  • this is the sound of a horde of tiny green creatures marching through the forest

  • Little Big Planet!!

  • this band kicks major ass...

  • Nope. Actually you are wrong.

  • It's just my opinion. I mean... I like them very much and they are great live performers but when I listen to album tracks I'm a bit annoyed to hear just "alien voices"....just an opinion

  • it annoys the shits outta me because fx overdoing aside, theyve got a great thing going

  • fair point, well made.

  • FX overdoing... the band is the FX doing

  • >dubwise43

you should check adebisi Shank and nuito!

  • いい!

  • similar bands can anyone share?

  • IIRC, he uses a Boss PS-5 with an expression pedal for vocal pitch-shifting

  • How the hell does the drummer hit that crash cymbal? It's about 10 feet in the air!

  • @gazdoesdallas I understand that the drummer does not (mostly) like the use of cymbals, and has that crash set so high so he's not tempted to use it. I do believe he had it that way when he was drummer for Helmet, as well.

  • mistake at 3:08

    Great song

  • fucking glorious

  • This song is in Little Big Planet for Play Station 3

  • FUCKING BEST FUCKIN THING EVER AH MAH GODDD ahahha 0.o

  • It is CRAZY! AAHHAHAHAHA! GONDOHAR is glad to know that he knows the lyrics! BOW DOWN!

  • ...absolutely amazing...

  • at first I was like how the hell you do this live? Well THAT'S how!

  • one of the fucking greatest bands

  • what i heard...begiwawom begiwawom..adn woohehyoo wooehyoo..

  • people won't be people when they hear this sound, it's coming from the forest at the edge of the town, people won't be people, no the people won't be people...

the singer is a crook, oh, hey, oh

    those are the lyrics.

  • you left some out, but basically yeah.

  • is that his own voice, or what ? o.o

  • partly his, partly synthesized

  • What does Tyondai start to do around 0:49? I'm kind of confused as to how he's getting that sound....

  • i think his voice is run through a moog pedal, with an expression pedal added to it.

  • I LOVE YOU BATTLES

  • Epic!

  • Stanier is God....

  • Love it :o)

  • Love.This.Band.

  • awesome...just awesome

  • the vocals to this song are the biggest mindfuck ever.

  • *if satans or deities existed somehow magically lolz

  • this song seriously sounds like what worshipping satan would sound like.

  • What????? NO! Is the second best Song on Little Big Planet! (game of Play Estation 3)

  • not second.. its the top best from LBP D:

  • I've actually heard some satanic music, and this is definitely NOT satanic.

  • you're so right dude

  • saw them live in singapore and kuala lumpur....wicked. This is the future of music.

  • although they're great I don't think this will be the future music... we'll see...

  • artooooooo saaaaaariiiiiiii!!!!!!!

  • *Konban ha

    Fucking cool. Love this band.

  • arto saari!

  • Yeah, he's using a whammy pedal to change his voice. It's awesome.

  • I think he's referring to the Digitech Whammy pedal. It's a pitch-shifting pedal that has built-in pitch-shifting functions meant to resemble whammy-bar effects, like dive bombs. As such, "whammy pedal" can be used as a general term for pitch shifting stompboxes. I suppose he could be using some kind of wah or filter to weed out certain frequencies, but it sounds more like he's using a pitch shifter, e.g. a boss super-shifter/harmonizer.

  • its a moog pedal.

  • Do you know which, though? I wasn't aware Moog made pitch-shifters.

  • he does have a MOOG ring modulator and a MuRF, but both won't produce such an effect. I know he has a MOOG exp-pedal next to his MOOG pedal in the music vid, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he has it plugged it into the MOOG.

  • Hahaha. Epic fail, 420jaymac.

  • fuckin wicked...not much more to say

  • John Stanier is such an awesome drummer

  • it's a whammy pedal on the vocals

  • this song is AWSOM i have little big planet and i like the song ( its my favourite song in little big planet ) and i thought i should here it live on you tube so i did

  • its a boss ps-3 with an expression pedal, i am sure

  • this. I'm pretty sure too.

I'm also sure that a whammy pedal will do the same thing too.

  • no, it won't.

  • playstation 3 definately

  • he didnt meen playstation 3 lol

  • You're all wrong...it's called a Digitech Whammy Pedal. It changes pitch with a pedal. There's no wah, no vocoder. Sounds like he has another pitch shifter or harmonizer going with the Whammy Pedal during the chorus, but during the verse, that's all Whammy Pedal.

  • I've seen them live, and if he's using a whammy pedal, it's like none I've ever seen. The only whammy pedals I've seen are big and red, and the pedal he uses is smaller and black.

  • The Whammy II is black. I couldn't get a real good look in these vids, but it looked like a Whammy II to me. And I've yet to see another device that allows pitch shifting controllable by a pedal other than the Whammy. It may exist but I never saw it.

  • This is not your daily "How to: Music" -categorie there are more tools than anything just standard.

  • it could be a special vocal whammy pedal

  • its just a whammy pedal

  • ooh now i get it

  • It's called a Vocoder. If it was distortion you would be able to hear it. It just a pedal which changes the pitch of his voice to extreme highs.

  • It's not a vocoder, it's just a wah pedal.

  • i dont kno if its a vocoder, but its definately not a wah pedal its gona be some sort of pitch shifter. Hense how his voice changes pitch

  • yeah just a wah pedal. A vocoder can only blend a synth in with the signal while a wah changes the harmonic structure of the signal depending on how far down you step on it,

  • ok people its really him singing but they put the microphona through a distorter so its tweaks his voice lol so yes its him singing but no his voice doesnt sound like that

  • Dedicace

Mélange de chansons francaises et anglaises aux accents poétiques engagés

Dedicace tout simplment comme dans la profondeur d'un miroir l'image de notre humanité !

  • battles playing on the White Stage, HA

  • fucking weird

  • I love Battles. They are intense and very technical, so enjoy it people... It's experimental for a reason.

  • HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS?????

  • tenian q estar en Warp, son geniales

  • espectacular, fantástico, excelente

  • yeah everyone trying to put it on a specific categorical shelf is pretty much missing the point.

    just enjoy it.

    or, you know, don't. whatever.

  • japan is like the best place to have a concert. they are really enthusiastic when it comes to good music :D

  • who is this?

  • People won't be people when they hear this sound That's been glowing in the dark at the edge of town People won't be people, no The people won't be people when they hear this sound Won't you show me what begins at the edge of town The singer is a crook The singer is a crook The singer is a crook The singer is a crook The kitchen is the cook The scissors are the barbers The singer is a crook The chorus, full of actors The chorus doesn't matter (last verse
  • thank u

  • crazy lyrics

  • Anyone know the meaning behind the name, if any?

  • so amazing. the crowd are awesome.

  • I wish the vid quality was better on this.... look at all those people bouncing!!! f'in sweet

  • they're not a "prog" band, or a "math rock" band...as they say, they're just a modern band. any great band just tries not to duplicate anything before it. don't get caught up in labels. if Battles' music makes you feel and dance a little different, embrace that and enjoy it...

    even printers make music...

  • Great effects work! Their sound is damn good.

  • like wow, this song is good on the album.

but they can deffinitly pull off some crazy stuff live.

it takes some real musical talent to get all of the effects in.

and not just that, but to even like, write this stuff.

    amazing song.

  • Tell me about it man. I just saw them for a third time this past saturday at a free show here in Central Park, and they kicked major ass. And like you say they never stop surprising you with what they do live. Best New York Band in years.

  • mmmm delicious. People won't be people when they hear this sound.

  • I love you

  • They are good at what they do, trust me.

I happen to like this style, a lot of people do now adays.

    It's more progressive jam.

But to each its own right.

  • great prog band

  • the sound of the future...

our kids will hear this thumping out from their radios in year 2500

  • That's some old kids, but the point remains.

    Awesome band.

  • 3 words, my friend. ars gratia artis. if you would stop punching kidneys, maybe youd catch on.

  • Are you mocking the haters? If not, why is this video, and the official video for Atlas listed in your favorite sections?

  • calm down metal head it's called an acquired taste

  • Thank god for Warp records for being the pioneering and innovative label they have and always been.
