Magnificent. If only all 'missing' DW monsters were as (relatively) easy to bring back to life as the Daleks. All those men in rubber suits are a CG artists' nightmare!
@HoraceAndTheSpider - I'm working on some stuff from The Daleks' Master Plan at the moment. Could be a while before any of it shows up as it's quite complicated.
it's a shame, because I prefer Power to DMP, and along with leonardo2's work, the two of you could have all the dalek scenes (at least) covered for Power pretty competently!
This is brilliant! Maybe the BBC should spend more money in the fans making these to produce a whole episodes in CGI. 10/10 for the work and lets keep hope of a copy in the world!
The Restoration team spends days and hours putting Dr who on DVD how dare you dis them. With out the team none of the Doctor Who stories would be on DVD or on audio.
Thats true they put alot of work into remastering the episodes all that hard work they do goes into making the episodes look like brand new. without them the episodes woulden't look as good as they do now.
The soundtrack still exists, as does three short sequences from the video. In addition there are telesnaps from the scene and the shooting script still exists. I may not know exactly how the scene plays out but I could make a pretty good guess.
Great work. I've currently just started the begining of episode5. Just think, if we all work on different parts of this story, we may one day have a complete story animated in CGI!
I don't know if I've commented on this video before, but I've got to say bloody amazing. It really does feel like someone has rescued this lost classic in a Tardis and brought it back to 21st Century. I'd love to see if you've done anymore since you put this out.
Great recon, with fantastic animation. It was almost perfect, but you spelt Bernard Archard's name wrong in the closing credits. Apart from that, brilliant.
Just clicked on this and watched without reading the description. I initially thought it was a clip I hadn't seen before. Fantastic piece of work! The cut out Daleks in the background is probably what suckered me. Really excellent stuff.
I thought this looked nice, the modelling is great, but you know what made it awesome? Cut out daleks in the background! I thought I was the only one that went for such a silly level of detail. Fantastic!
I could tell that this is cgi, because in the real episode, when they are saying reign of daleks, they sre wobbling their heads around. Good job though!!
Actually, in the origanal episode, and back then, they had a dalek shortage, so when ever they had to make a whole bunch of daleks, they used cut-outs
This is amazing, to the point of being almost surreal.... As with my comments on Episode 5 Scene 13 this is out of this world....I can hardly believe what I'm watching...Thankyou sooooo much! and once again - please don't stop!!!
very impressive, I liked that even more, love those old cheesy cut outs! perhaps the 2 dimensional version explains how they got so many in the genesis ark. :-)
Fantastic. Even the film look and the cut-outs. Anyone who has ever tried to re-create something knows that is it *much* harder to match art out there in the world (even if it was destroyed by the BBC :-) because an outside requirement drives the skill, not internal whim.
That was really well done, to the point where had I not known it was CGI before I started watching I would have assumed it was an existing clip. Top stuff!
This would look cool if the scene of them exiting was recreated in CGI with one black domed leader three silver and black and endless silver and blue drones following them.
I think you've misunderstood what I've done here. The entire sequence is produced using CGI sets which I have modeled, not (as you seem to think)overlaid onto photographs. The cardboard Daleks that are there are a deliberate personal design choice as I am trying to match the look of the episodes as closely as possible without using any actual material, bar the audio.
Additionally if the script indicates that one of the four has become the leader, perhaps a field promotion of more black markings such as a black dome might be in order.
Perhaps you could even achieve effects the original budget didn't stretch too, such as giving the original four daleks different livery black and silver (science corp daleks like those in death to the daleks) and the drones blue roundels.
Also if you start with creating an empty control room, by removing the daleks at the back, then adding them later as CGI in this scene, you can more easily recreate other key scenes of the daleks plotting before they began mass producing daleks.
action have them move backwards and forwards etc. I have also seen some colorization to these scenes, just a little blue in the right places and yellow to the flashing lights works wonders to make the scene just come alive adding to the visual excitement.
Yes it looks great!! The only niggle is the cardboard cut out daleks at the back in these squences, it would be great to correct the perspective on them by overlaying CGI daleks onto them. I.E ceating a blank canvus control room, replacing the cardboard cut out daleks with CGI ones that are slightly more animated, for example having their domes and eyepieces move to follow the
