  • Any idea how this handles on the ocean?

  • i bet that thing is RIDICULOUSLY unstable!!!

  • A paddle shaft that is expandable would be easy to build for this foilyak.

  • Great design. Too much energy wasted by paddle splashes. Needs to have paddles redesigned for this boat.

  • Why not mount hydrofoils on a schooner & run it in the America's Cup races?

  • schooners dont race the america's cup. and there was a boat that entered with lots of controversy regarding the foil at the bottom of its keel back in the 90s.

  • @cali420king Winged Keel... by us aussies :) Ben lexen was the designer... he made lots of things... including a winged skateboard! :)

  • What's that? :D

  • Looks good - but would it be wise to use a paddle with a longer shaft? Or would that make it impossible to get up to take-off speed?

  • It is a paddle with a longer shaft - required so that the blade still hits the water when it is up on the hydrofoils.

  • I have been searching to get a small motor in my 17' Kayak and this hidrofoils would be great idea!!

do you have any plans in how to build this and installation pls?

  • Where did you shout this video, do you have any email of the conceptor of this hydrofoil, thanks to let me know

  • Yes, Science is hard gay.

  • wow!

tag "javi baggaley " in youtube to see javi baggaley at the olympic games in beijing lol! bye

  • Why hasnt anyone stuck an engine on this???? COME ON PEOPLE!

  • They have, that is where this comes from. Check out wikipedia for hydrofoils

  • Well of course that, but the aerodynamic shape of a kayak combined with the hydrodynamic properties of a hydrofoil, and the power of a small engine, this could go pretty fast with awesome mileage.

  • but classic is classic. takes the efort out of it. i think it would ruin the sport

  • lemo: The forward foil is also a rudder, controlled by pedals.

  • And to turn ?

  • Hi..this looks very interesting

may i know what material u use to make the hydrofoil?

would appreciate if i can get the reply soon..

    =]

  • Google "Flyak" and you will find the company that makes them.

  • your stroke rate is twice that of the guy you are racing...

  • because you can stroke faster since the friction between the boat and the water is gone a lot

  • bullshit.. the other guy isn't even trying to race...

  • could be, but still you would definitely go faster with less friction on a hydrofoil

  • If you doubt the effectiveness of this, you can find a video of a guy using this boat, and beating a K-4 team over 500 meters.

  • Very interesting idea, Looks like alot of fun. Id like to try it.

  • so it HAS been done...

  • id like to try that in da surf

  • looks hard 2 paddle

  • cant imagine turning is easy. does it have a skeg?

  • whats that?

  • A skeg is a kind of rudder for kayaks.

  • One of the foils is a rudder.

  • man that is so sweet:D

  • What i dont understand is that there are alot of complaints about stability, i tried one and its was that unstable to the usual kayak! Tell me what you think plz!

  • awesome stuff, though whitewater would be a bit epic and screw having to roll it

  • This would not work for whitewater as the boat is a K-1. The only part of the foil you might want to use for whitewater would be for front surfing. In any other sort of condition, hydrofoils would be a hazard.

You could roll it though, as the hydrofoils would add weight to the bottom, thus helping to pull you in line as you perform the hip flick.

  • you'd need to make your wings about a foot longer as well n I bet it would be a pain to portage.

But still to see peoples faces at the nat champs when your boat lifts out of the water would be priceless.

  • How about a K4 Flayak??

  • Yeah, nice invention. In the beginning you need to have more power because of coming out of the water costs 25% more energy.

Same doubts to me: instable when bigger waves or bumps. What about navigating? ... And what about the efficiency in paddling itself?...

  • Cool

  • That's a great concept... but I would like to see the face-plant that would ensue after hitting a thicky kelp patty or floating lake salad.

  • I really don't want to offend anybody but the guy in the pink boat has a really bad technique, the other guy would've beat him just as easily in an 'original' kayak... However that flyak seems REAL fun to me :)

  • There are small sailboats that also do this. They totally kick ass

  • wow this is a first for me , very cool .

jefuchs im uploading a video of a sailhydro right now take a look in my profile . its the Hobie version

thanks chumkill , is that you paddling ?

    T2

  • Apparently is it more stable than a standard K1 due to the fact that the hydrofoils are like wings, and have stabilizers on them.

This of course would only be true in flat, or mostly flat water as waves would cause the hydrofoil to hit air, and lose all their lift, this would cause the flyak to "crash" into the water.

  • Wow how about the stability? It looks like he is surfing all the time, I suppose it is a similar effect in speed.

  • The surf ski version of this is supposed to start making an appearance on their website, but I have not seen anything yet. The flyak in the video is a modified Nelo K1 that has been fitted with hydrofoils.

You can see how it is much faster than the standard K1 that it blows by at the start of the video.

  • You should study up a bit more on physics and hydro dynamics...

Nicely trolled, a quick google search shows that this exists.
