  • I hope Dave Semenko was there.

  • my idol..along with Yzerman and Sakic..hockey will never be the same without them

  • the greatest goal in the history of hockey hahaha lol i love that my boy jags ended gretzky's " career " :-)

  • hemsky shouldve played his last game in edmonton, the city that appreciated him the most.

  • i cant believe this video ended when it did

  • HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BEAUTIFUL JAGR GOAL??? WOW!!

  • Brings tears to my eyes.. litterally I remember watching this game

  • Happy 50th Wayne!

  • Where's Part 2?

  • who were the kids they brought out to the ice?

  • lol Jagr's a fag

  • if any player comes along and starts breaking gretzky's records, if ever possible, i pray the lord keeps me around long enough to see it...

  • The Great One.

  • wow this brings me back to my childhood when I started to watch hockey.

  • As a fan of the Flames, I can tell you that I cried like a baby into my Mom's shoulder after this game. He ripped my heart out many times and I love him for it.

  • 99: the greatest Canadian hero. And I heard Bettman say before the game that the NHL would retire Wayne's 99 throughout the league. Trivia for all of you...there was 1 other player who wore 99 besides Gretz....Wilfred Paiment wore 99 for the Maple Leafs from 1979-80, possibly because Lanny McDonald wore #9!

  • @kcthatsawinner Actually there's a bunch of players from the 1930's that wore number 99. I know there's Joe Lamb, Des Roche and Léo Bourgault of the Montréal Canadiens in 1934-35 that worn number 99, But only one player will be remembered for wearing the 99. Thanks Gretzky for all he did for the wonderful sport of hockey!

  • Just amazing.

  • A really sad day. I was 13 when i saw his last game. I was bummed. My brother introduced me to hockey and i became a fan of hockey and of Gretzky. I live in Cali and here hockey isnt big. I prefer hockey over any other sport besides UFC. Hockey is wasy more exciting. Anyways, I miss Gretzky still.

  • too bad lemieux didnt retired like him...in glory

  • @TheGamegangsta2 lemieuzx got injured... and he has cancer lol if he wanted t play more he would had

  • Right at 1:42 Jagr and Gretzky are seen kissing each other full on the mouth for goodbye. I think that later hug with the comment to Jagr "u can carry on now, the ice is free Good luck!" would have been sufficient.

  • @ schwabbamoose. Here's a better idea, take out the instagator rule and see how Wayne would have handled it without someone like McSorley protecting him. Better case of someone who has a similar game as Wayne's with a rule like this...Sidney Crosby.

  • I don't think anyone can refute the fact that this guy is the greatest hockey player EVER. This guy was not ALLOWED in Pro-line. He was that good lol. I give Bobby Orr all the credit in the world. He is my #2 of all-time with Lemieux #3. But this guy is something different . Second to NONE.

  • He can't take a hit.

  • nice vid greatest player to ever lace up the skates

  • Too bad he went out with a loser organization.

The Rangers couldn't even win his last game......losers.

  • i dont think he could of played another 10 years but i do however think the whole he couldnt of played today thing is crazy he played thru the 80s which was wide open but also played during the worst era in the sport, the clutch and grab era which they did away with that ..today u cant do that stuff ..todays nhl is basically a power play the whole game because they call everything... gretzky would do real well in todays game just because of that

  • wayne could've played as long as he wanted. he's the greatest there ever was and ever will be.

  • he couldve played another 10 years if he wanted

  • look at chelios! Only 1 year between them and are you telling me chelios was better than wayne?

  • Chelios and Gretzky are two completely different players. My whole point is that Wayne wore basically no upper body equipment, and barely ever gave/took a hit. It's just not possible in todays NHL for a player to skate around untouched like it was then. Chelios is a hard nosed defenceman(and freak of nature to be playing at 47 lol). You can't compare the two whatsoever, Chelios has been able to play the same style most of his career, Gretz wouldn't have been able to continue that into this era.

  • There was one game against Vancouver as a Ranger and he got hit along the borads and did he ever go down.

  • Chelios was and is still physicaly stronger than Gretzky. Wayne couldn't withstand today's game with the speed now turned up. He has to have the strength of a Sidney Crosby for example to withstand the rigors of the NHL.

  • @103Uke Gordie Howe said it best: "Wayne would be the best in any era ever played"

    I trust Mr. Hockey's word.

  • Trust you may, but I don't share your trust. In an era that is now more faster and more physical, not to mention that you have a checker on you once you have the puck, you have to be a strong player all around. Sure, Wayne can play in a game with all the offensive skill in the world, but when it came to the rough and tumble game of the NHL, you have to be also tough as nails, "shave the rules down a bit so you can have more room out there".

Gordie Howe. Now that part I trust.

  • @103Uke You obviously never had the opportunity to watch Gretzky in his prime. Sure Crosby is good, but he will never dominate like Gretky, not even close.

  • @tsycear3 I saw Wayne free flow with the Oilers while he had Messier, Kurri, Coffey, etc...Saw him dominate Toronto in 93 when it mattered, followed him till his very last game against the pens.

  • @tsycear3 I'm not going to deny that Wayne was unreal, but lets face facts he wasn't strong enough to handle a check and it got worse when the NHL put the instagator rule, in where you can get away with going after a star player without an enforcer going after you. Crosby on the other hand can take hits, fight and withstand the rigors of the NHL while racking up pts. Didn't say he was going to overtake Wayne in all time goals scored.

  • @103Uke He didn't need to handle a hit if he was smart enough to avoid them. The reason he didn't get hit is not because players were scared to hit him. I'm not sure what being able to "take a hit" really means or if it matters anyways. That's great that Crosby can take hits and wants to fight, but so do most players in the league. I'm just not sure why Crosby would even be mentioned in comparison to Gretzky. By the time Gretzky was Crosby's age he was on his way to a fith scoring title.

  • @tsycear3 McSorley and Seminko were the reasons there was an "unwritten rule" that you can't hit Gretzky. Any one that nailed him, was not going to see the ice again that's why, He got leveled in one of the Canada Cups because there was no one to protect him and go back probs for the rest of his career, not to mention a clean hit that I can remember like yesterday in the 87 Canada Cup where he was given a clean hit that made him turn the puck over and resulted in a Soviet goal.

  • @tsycear3 I clearly said that Crosby is not compared to Gretzky when it comes to goals, all I was saying is that he can hold his own by taking a hit...did you just get what I said? Gretzky in his entire career when rocked couldn't get up, actually I'll tell you this for a fact. In NY, he was rounding the boards and skated right into the ref, the ref did not move an inch, and Gretzky was withering in pain as the ref was looking at him wondering why was he lying there.

  • @103Uke Um ok, so what you can say he couldn't take a hit but his records are undeniable. He wasn't known for his strength, he was known for his skill handling a puck.

  • @jrpeters5 Well duh. We know he was great in that category when no one could touch him cause he had McSorley and etc.. placed out there with him. Anyone who touched him would have had a death notice sent to him in advance. If he played today's game and got clocked, do you think he would have got up and continued playing with that conditioned body? Not in a million yrs, unlike Orr, Bossy and Lemieux they sure did.

  • alot is TWO WORDS: "a lot"

  • Thanks grammar police!

  • What a moment.

  • wow man i feel so sad!!!!

  • i cried so much that day...and I'm a die hard Devils fan...

  • This video looks really bad, I'd Reccomend the high quality version.
