In DCI, we "listen to the concrete," if you're scuffing you arent moving as lightly as you should be. Scuffing tends to indicate that you are moving too heavily. Imagine this concrete was actually a grass field, then his feet would be digging into the ground the grass is planted on rather than the tops of the grass blades. In true straight leg style, you want the foot to brush through but not touch the actual dirt. Even in a backwards technique! This is really good for an 11th grade rookie!
@ppinkbelly they are right, to add when you scruff your foot going backwards, it will be harder to get to those farther spots on the field when you have those huge moves. FHNSAB '12
@swordblogs thats just because he is marching on solid concrete. if he was marching on grass, it would be less noticeable. i know kuz i march with this guy in band now. he`s a senior now, so he is even more badass than before. good shit adam!! :-D
@MegaDarkSilver We learned the straight leg marching style this season. We learned that our feet don't hit the ground other than when you are actually stepping. No mid-count, for us the and count was when your feet crossed.
@Fartknocker0990 Well maybe there are different styles of straight leg because American Fork High School does straight leg and we got taught to scuff on the and counts.
@MegaDarkSilver Dont scuff cuz you'll ruin your shoes and its pretty annoying also it shows that your feet are too close to the ground. Your platforms( ball of your foot) should be 1 inch from the ground
@Koshimae217 Scraping your feet lightly on the ground helps you get a straighter leg. My visual instructor marched BD this season, and he told me that its okay to lightly scrape your feet
Every school has its own technique. Which is cool. But what matters in a drum corps audition is following that corps style.

A season of drum corps will totally change the way you march. The greatest method to learn drum corps style is to march drum corps!

@Fartknocker0990 thats the strait leg marching style. Your supposed to scuff you feet on the ground on the and counts.

@MegaDarkSilver No you're not, your feet are supposed to glide across the ground, not scuff it.
Swordblogs 4 months ago
@Swordblogs Yeah, your feet should graze the grass, not rip it out of the ground. That's our marching style.

@xCydezx That's how we march, it's actually a style. He's not scuffing, he's keeping his legs as straight as possible.
ExMxO59002 4 months ago
@xCydezx Oh, and you platform needs to be high enough for somebody to be able to read the bottom of your shoe.
ExMxO59002 4 months ago
@ExMxO59002 not that high or you would be on your toes
xCydezx 4 months ago
@xCydezx I don't know where you went to highschool, but your platforms should be as far from the ground as possible when marching straight leg.

@KH2fanatic2010 Seven Lakes High school and When you Backwards march You typically want high platforms but not so high that you're on your toes
