Dude... Shin blocking? Bad idea. I accidentally did that once with a LIGHT leg kick in Muay Thai and I still had a bruise almost 2 weeks later.... NOT smart lol.
@czarImperia I train my shins by kicking, not by blocking kicks. In Muay Thai I'm taught to let the kick hit the back flab of your leg, so like... if he throws an outside kick, turn my leg in so it hits the back of my leg and not the muscle. If you go shin to shin with a muay thai kick... you're gonna get really hurt. I've seen it happen. My buddy's been training for over a year in Muay Thai and he went shin to shin with someone on accident and it swelled like... immediately.
wish machida would've use this defense instead of intercepting shogun's kicks. He left hand is shot cause of the surgery and it got him ko'd in the rematch. If he would incorporate thai defense and shotokan attacks he would be very difficult to deal with.
@czarImperia Some fighter scrub glass bottles or wooden sticks over their shin, hardens the bone (as far as know) and makes it more resistant for pain :)
@vekasmisi well ... fighting hurts ... so it is all about what hurts the less. Better to block with the shin than taking the shot at full speed on the thigh.
he already has done mma,he was useless due to zero grappling ability or takedown defence.Same happened to ramon deker, aerts and alexei ignashov ,all top tier strikers.
Trust me, if someone throws a quick punch combo to your face and follows it with a leg kick, then your not gonna have time to lift your shin up and out to block the kick, your best to keep your guard up and brace down low so your thigh is pointing out wards to take the kick so it does not hurt, Bas Rutten teaches this technique and uses it well.
it works fine although not everytime but its the same for everything.Bas wasnt an elite thai boxer as good an mma lad as he was he only had a handful of thai fights.
Yeah, Cung Le braces for a low kick like that too - bending the knee and flexing the thigh so the kick rides up his leg, so he can grab it and throw a counter cross punch at the same time. If you have time to check a kick, you also have time to pull you leg out of the way and avoid it by backing up - or throwing a counter front kick to push him back.
2:44 it's a wrong block with the left leg , he was surprised but never, if u block with ur legs take the kick inside in the inner side, because it's a KD kick, so if u can't block, but u won't get hit in that only if u meet some1 goofy.
i never said it's not usefull as long as it blocks, but you should try to avoid thoose block because they hit ur inner side of the leg, which u are not prepared on...u see that he tells him something after that hit...on 2:43
it depends on the angles. if you're a southpaw like jerome (and me) the angles are a bit more complicated. in general you should block with whichever leg the opponent is trying to kick, which is usually your 'lead' leg. and angle you shin towards the direction the kick is coming from like he is doing.
always with the nearest leg if you use the indirect leg like right one for a right kick you might lose time and give the advantage to take you out of balance
Je pense qu'il est une mal habite quand one fait de defense sans frapper. Jerome, frappez apres ou avec un block, n'est pas? C'est mellieur, pour moi.
@BuckeyeRedTV - yes i also belive it is Kickboxing, its more tecnical than muai thai and the stance is different also... muai thai fighters are less tecnical and more agressive in my opinion, like melvin manhoef... but maybe i am wrong.
@asforemita - Jerome Le Banner's background was originally Karate and JKD. But these days he could be training with Karate, Muay-Thai and other martial-artist. After some time most competitive fighters will ultimately will move toward Thai style striking.
@iApna - I agree, no doubt.... And yes his background was Karate and JKD but if you search you will see in that he is considered a French Kickboxer unlike other k1 fighters... Honestly i was hoping someone to reply my message because like i said "maybe i am wrong" so realy you don`t need to be unadecated in your answers. I am not saying that he never trained thai or things like that... Just that i consider his game (stance, punches, defense) similar to Crocop witch is also a kickboxer.
@yimmiytube - Yes, i belive i have too agree with you, i just had this doubt because Savate Kickboxing is very famous in France and his page in wikipedia said kickboxing among with other places on internet... But anyway i belive he trains thai boxing.
@asforemita - How are Thai fighters less technical? They are more aggressive no doubting that. I practice and compete in Muay-Thai myself. But I have been in fights under kickboxing rules or what we call modified Thai rules where we cannot use elbows or knees to the head. Today kickboxing and Muay-Thai terms are used interchangeably. The style of the fighter can vary depending on his training and his Ajarn's or (Kru) lineage.
@iApna Agree with you, what is kickboxing? I am confused.Karate people used to call MT as kickboxing, later on when they did more fullcontact karate,in 1980s they started to call themself kickboxing.
@yimmiytube - There has been a lot of confusion. I believe the term Kickboxing came from the Japanese which was the middle ground for Karate and Muay-Thai in the early 50's. Techniques and scoring system differ in both arts. To the untrained eye techniques looks the same. But you may notice that Kickboxers use hands more than legs and the reverse for Muay-Thai. Thai focus heavily on kicks, elbows, clinch, knees. But these days most people use the terms Kickboxing & Muay-Thai interchangeably.
@asforemita I believe u have a point but its still thai dutch style I believe cause le banner trains with the holland crew like hoost. the dutch style believes in countering more and making ur shots count instead of blind brutal rage like regular thai.

You should never drop your hand for a kick ever watch jerome get knocked out by hoost for droping his hand its like an invitation

how much kickboxing do you do exactly your trying to tell JLB how to kickbox?
daz45 4 years ago 4
you always drop your hand for a kick to generate power the OTHER arm comes across your face with elbow over chin to protect from counter punch
