I think it may be fresh/salt water different typoes i dunno but we have Lake Erie steelhead and you can google it to check. its not my opinion its a fact.. ODNR check it yourself.
@Atech66 i hate when east-coasters say they steel head fish when they never even caught a steel head you guys have rainbow trout.if it hasn't roamed the salty ocean its not a steel head there is a huge difference its like comparing a dog to a timber wolf.
@bocephus3006 well you might want to contact the game and fish dep't for northern Ohio because they are called steelhead feel free to look it up.. I've never seen a 25 lb rainbow but i sure as hell have seen steely's that big. you can see them in swirls together and there is a difference.
@Atech66 um the world record rainbow trout is 40 pounds. im not saying there not called steelhead im saying they dont compare to real stealhead i have fished great lakes fish and i now live in washington and the first salt running steelhead i ever caught i was like holly shit its like hooking a torpedo running on nitro methane and it dosent run out of gas there is a huge difference so therefore they shouldnt be categorized together.they are 2 different fish
Skein is my favorite bait ever for steelhead and salmon. luckily for me, most of the great lakes fisherman haven't caught onto the skein trick like it is out west. I'm typically the only guy on a given stretch of river using it.
You know a person is a snagger when they call a chrome king a steelhead, because they are only used to seeing dark rotten kings as they are dodging their trebles on gravel beds.
Its a king man no chance its not, steelhead dont look anything like it, I have caught hundreds of both, plus steelhead typically dont run in september.
@lomonaco0005 ive been fishing the milwaukee river in south eastern wisconsin and all i have caught is steele's and browns. . . they eat the king eggs around here and fishing has been great this september. . .
no doubt it was a chinook, just saying ive caught steel head on skein, and hooked a few kings this year on eggs. around here they turn black/brown and basically rot white while they swim up our tributaries.

@lomonaco0005, no, i can tell its not a salmon from the tail and the body shape and mouth. Color was never a determining factor.
