Newman smahsed the front of carl who then flew into the catchfenece (Ricky Bobby!) and then @jawsflounderace 's comment I think Jr. was trying to come of and brad was being stupid, so when he did let go, brad spun into the front of kyle.

Brad then started CELEBRATING WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS STILL GOIN AROUND TO THE PITS

yeah, I agree with you there - Carl had this incident coming. Superspeedway racing is the best in NASCAR. It is unpredictable. Known for the best crashes, craziest races, and the enduro races (so much drama during those 500s or the summer 400 one and crashes, engines going up in smoke - most of those races only 30 cars or less finish them like Le Mans) that it's not over 'til the winning car crosses the line even by a hair. Long live this form of racing - always a thrill every year.

I hope NASCAR is happy with the outcome of that race. The decision to make it an automatic penalty for crossing the yellow lines under ANY circumstance was a poor one and could very easily have killed a LOT of people. Fortunately some of the good decisions made by NASCAR to implement roof flaps, and bolster the catch fences paid off. Now it is time for NASCAR to step up and admit they need to rethink thier ruling on the yellow lines.

Watch the fall 2008 Talladega finish. Regan Smith went below the yellow line to avoid wrecking Stewart, pretty much the same scenario as this race, NASCAR took the win away from him. So Brad saw that incident, held his ground, and Edwards came down on him, causing this wreck. They're lucky it didn't kill someone.

NASCAR put the drivers in that hole, Brad had no choice. It was either Edwards wrecked or he forfeited his victory. Some drivers even predicted something like this was going to happen.

A couple of thoughts.... Mike Joy is not my fav but no way when he said the catch fence did it's job did anyone know of the injuries . So no fair to chide him. Also if he meant the car did not leave the track, he is correct!

Carl is at fault, Brad actually tries to slow when contact is made, then Carls' car does the spin and not win into the fence after being hit in the rear lifting the car off the track.

Restrictor Plate racing is very controversial. It makes situations like this very dangerous for drivers and fans alike, but it makes wide tracks like Dega competitive due to the draft factor. One extra comment:  will Carl get fined by Nascar for his "Ricky Bobby" run to the finish line? In my opinion, GO CARL! You made a nasty wreck like this one of fan appeal and humor!

in the end, I don't think they did fine him for that - it is a safety issue which is why they would fine him if he did it during the race. When the race is over, I'm not sure what the ruling would be on that. I remember that part in the movie. Sasha Barry Cohen and Will Ferrell were a good comical team as co-stars of Talladega Nights. The stuff they did was hilarious - somewhat slapstick but not too bizarre.

I just read that eight fans were injured in the stands. One was seriously injured and is being airlifted from the track.

The race was Texas Motor Speedway.

The Cot was used all the races last year.

The Cot was only used on Short tracks and Road courses, and 2nd Talladega race in 2007.

The first CoT flip last year was at California when Casey Mears went on his lid. The second was McDowell's crash at Texas. Neither of them were due to catching air and flipping though. Edwards wouldn't have flipped if Newman hadn't hit him if you watch it closely. He would have came back down and slammed into the fence.

It wasn't dirty. He was following the rules. The rules are you can't go below the yellow line. If he had gone below them to avoid the wreck and crossed the finish line first, he would have lost the race, like Regan Smith last fall. Carl Edwards came down on him and he couldn't go below the line. If you want to blame anyone for it, blame NASCAR.
