  • you stalled on approach.carry more air speed to the ground effect

  • NICE VIDEO. i would have try to slide it on the grass. nice plane

  • Crash landing at 5:01 .........

  • Hard to know what to do. Sometimes if you make a change, like adding flaps, to a plane that is damaged but still flyable you always run the risk of making it unflyable. Sometimes you have time to undo any changes that can result - sometimes you don't !!

  • you know what to do kill the engine and belly land but in the moment behind the control you freak out and forget everything it's ok happends to us all......

  • what

  • I know this is late, but I just looked at this video. You have probably learned more now over the past 2 years, but next time something like this happens and you know you have to do a belly landing. Kill the engine and do a dead stick landing and bring it in like you would under a normal landing noise down then flare a little right before touching the grass. With all the runway and grass you have I would not even used the flaps. My H9 P-47 150 lands good with no flaps and even better with flaps

  • @klmelj Howdy!.. Thanks for the comment. I don't have a remotely activated kill switch on this plane. Just a switch on the side of the fuse just ahead of the cockpit on the left side.

  • @flyboywagner

You do not have to have one just lower your throttle trim tab down that will cut the engine. Good flight though!

  • @klmelj could have also returned to the basics and used your rudder and elevator to bring you in. just like a three channel RC and really work that throttle!

  • The jug always did have a reputation for getting the pilots home despite damage!!

  • to slow

  • ahhh! this happened to me the other day! was gutted. but learnt if in doubt, speed up!

  • Top Flite makes a better P-47 then hangar 9..

  • One of the guys in our club has the top flite F4U Corsair 84 1/2" span. He upgraded the retracts and made several other alterations to his stock kit. I'm not real familiar with top flight stuff. I know they make a P47 but then alot of companies do. Have you had a H-9 P47 or is there a guy inyour club that has one?

  • What makes it better?

  • Stall.....................

  • .............hi ridepate, is there more to come on your comment or are you thinking about it?

  • Never flown one this size, but curious. Why would you only use half flaps? Why not full flaps to decrease your stall speed even more?

I'm not saying half was wrong, I am just curious.

  • The degree of flaps is debatable but the main thing is that I didn't maintain sufficient power on the throttle to stay above a stall speed. If I had had full flaps engaged, with no more power than I had, she'd have stalled from higher up and that would have been more serious damage. Still learning I guess. I've been flying my P51 and my bi-plane alot more, working on landing approaches and smooth landings. More practice is the key. Thanks for your comment.

  • where can get 1 of them planes from?

  • Hi EDLOVER. This is a Hangar-9 product. If you have a hobby shop in your town your hobby shop proprietor can order one for you or you can order it online from Horizon hobbies or I also think you can order it from Hangar-9. It's a beautiful plane and a good flyer.

  • Sorry to see the crash. The Hangar 9 P-47 is a gorgeous model. Was it a total loss, or were you able to repair?

  • Hi chrisfev01. This crash was really nothing to write home about. I had wing tip and some fuselage repair to do and of course I replaced the stock ball link for the retract actuation with a heavy duty ball link. The crash I had about 3 months prior to this was a total loss. But all is well now and she's back in the air and flying beautifully.

  • aviate, communicate, navigate ! go back to the trainer my friend.

  • Good advice tisoy909. I think to a certain degree I've been somewhat intimidated by a plane this large. But I just need to do what I do with my smaller planes and keep more power on during decent for landing with flaps. What is it they say? The thing you fear will come upon you. Fearing a crash with an expensive aircraft will almost guarantee a crash. Just climb in the cockpit and go balls to the walls with confidence. How's that for a self pep talk?

  • I came to your page because i have the same model, i'm running an evo 35gt gasser in her. The only thing you gotta do is maintain a constant descent to the runway threshold then flare it to level it off just above the runway. Your approach was wayyy to flat and thats why you stalled. remember when landing and those flaps down, you must constantly descend never flatten out till the flare a few feet off the ground. if you level out 2 early or 2 high, abort it power up and go around for another.

  • Thanks for the advice tisoy909. I will try my approach from a little higher next time and try to maintain a constant angle of decent as you suggest. I haven't had trouble landing my smaller P51 with flaps, I guess it's a matter also of getting a better "feel" for the P47 as well. Thanks again.

  • Another thing is, never try to three point land a warbird model. dont be afraid of a little speed on the touchdown, its a warbird and some speed on landing is your insurance. that means a two point landing always. then let the runout slow her down so the tail can settle

  • How did stall the plane ?

  • Thanks for your question Indiarc. Well the matter of stalling an airplane is pretty simple. Any wing configuration has a minimum speed at which it can keep the plane it is affixed to in the air. When you exceed the minimum airspeed then you have lift and the plane will rise from the ground. If, while in flight you slow down below the minimum speed you risk a stall, which is where the wing can't keep the plane in the air anymore. Such is the simplicity of aeronautical design.

  • Who was your cameraman? He is friggin' awesome!!!

  • Oh I just used the cameraman from my good friend Steven Spielberg. He's between shoots right now so the loan of him was not a problem.

  • Beautiful plane. Retracts are great when they work correctly, but the mechanicals can be temperamental. Keep the faith and hope you get her flying again soon.

  • Hey Sonicman1979 thanks for the comment. This is my first posting to you tube. I hope I have many more of a more positive nature. Hopefully I'll have it ready to go again ny September 20th, that's when I'm leaving for Dallas Texas with my job for 10 days and I had hoped to bring it with me.

  • Looks like a new system of actuating the mechanical retracts is in order. Either that or go to pneumatic retracts.
