Music education is what will really help you in the long run, and i'm not talk about tutoring, I'm talking about researching how great guitarists play, what they play with.

This was a while ago, I know you've obviously learned a lot more, or I hope you have LOL, but Eric Johnson is a blues guitarist, he uses a super thick pick, and holds his pick very relaxed. That all does make a difference. Him playing Cliffs of Dover live has so much less distortion, there is so much noise here.

there are actually a lot of very young guitarists out there like this (trust me; you can find LOTS here on youtube), but the unfortunate truth is that most of them end up losing interest by the time they hit their mid-teens. However, starting to learn guitar at this age is probably a very good idea if you can keep interest; your fingers can retain a lot more training a lot faster. Unlike myself, who was stupid enough to wait until I was nearly 16 to start learning guitar.

The thing is that this kid has some serious talent. Better than I can do by a long shot, but I can't help but think that a lot of the pressure of doing this in front of so many people is going to turn him off of doing it in the future. So typical, and happens all the time. I loved wrestling as a young kid, and now when I'm much older I look back and think "why did I even watch that?" Things change, especially going between a twelve year old and a twenty year old one.
