Please translate this: Bei Audis mit Baujahr bis 1997 würde ich dir durchaus zustimmen - danach hat Audi zwar den Qualitätseindruck steigern können, die Qualität allgemein hat allerdings stark nachgelassen, besonders bei der Lebensdauer der Motoren und der mechanischen Teile. Audi hat anscheinend gelernt dass Autos die ewig fahren, wie die 5 Zylinder, nicht unbedingt deren Fahrer dazu bewegt sich einen neuen Audi zu kaufen.

With Audis with year of construction until 1997 I would quite agree you - afterwards AUDI could increase the quality impression, the quality generally however strongly diminished, particularly at the life span of the engines and the mechanical parts. AUDI has apparent learned that cars those eternally to drive, like the 5 cylinders, not necessarily their driver to it induces itself a new AUDI to buy.

two v8 quattros n a 200 20v and though ive had to work on restoring them and put plenty of money into them i have NEVER EVER had one leave me stranded no matter how fucked up it was. tell me a 86 avant with 300k miles and the original clutch isn't reliable if you drive them to hell and dont maintain them yeah anything will break, but lets see you push 24psi in a neon srt4 without blowing it up. oh yeah btw my cranks are all forged sodium filled valves in the 200. how shitty is that?!

The clutch argument is completely subjective to how you drive, and has nothing to do with the reliability of the car. You've never owned an Audi newer than 94'. Electrical problems plague newer generations. If you're such an Audi enthusiast you'd know this. Mechanically they're sound, I never said they weren't. I love Audi, they're by far my favorite brand, but I'll be the first to admit they're anything by reliable. Audi and VW recalled 530k cars in 01-02 for ignition problems.

i wouldn't drive ANY car newer than 94-96 till somewhat recently all production quality from every car company went to hell. i cant stand the typical a4s but every older audi ive owned has never failed me. NEVER left me stranded. yes it is a project car and yes they are more complicated than the average car but i say with good reason. theres not a car out there that you dont have to replace parts on after 18 years.

Well... Before 1995 they were very reliable. I drive a '93 Audi 80 2.3E, 17 years old now and not a tiny bit of rust at all! Also never had electrical problems...

A workmate mf mine drives a Coupé 20V, made 364k kilometers till now with original gear, clutch and engine.

A lot of the newer ones are made in Mexico. That's part of the problem. Like you said though anything before the 96' model year is great. I was looking to find an 00-02 A4 and couldn't find one that was still made in Germany. I've just heard of too many problems with them. Which sucks because Volkswagen/Audi makes some amazing cars.

Well said. But I understand that they build their cars in Mexico. It really isn't easy for the german car manufacturers to keep up with the prices of asian cars... I bet the production costs over there are way lower.

Yeah i guarantee they are. It's too bad that Audi is giving up quality for a bigger profit, I understand it completely, and I don't blame them for doing it; I just think it's a tragedy. It's too bad the majority of people in the US don't have the same kind of automotive enthusiasm that Europe has. It's amazing the cars/diesels and transmission choices they get over there, in comparison to the United States. How I'd love to find an S8 in manual! I think Audi is getting better with quality though.

Yep, it really is a tragedy. Concerning quality, AUDI isn't what it used to be. But that's just like nearly every other car brand. In the past a car was a huge investment and people wanted to keep it as long as possible. Today we live in a fast moving and transient time. People rather buy something new but cheap every five years and throw the old away instead of keeping the old as long as possible. And that's what car manufacturers are taking advantage of...

We have the R8 in manual, just not the A6-RS6, A8,S8. You can't even get an A4 Avant in manual! And nope, no TT-RS for us. We do get the TT-S, though. I lived outside the US for a couple of years and almost every car you saw was manual, it was great. We also don't get any real diesels here. We get the A3 diesel and the BMW 335d. That's it as far as sports cars go. Real drag. More than half the cars sold in Europe are diesels. Nothing cooler than doing 0-62 in 5 seconds and still get 50 MPG.

Oh... S8, not R8. But it's still a shame. I knew that in the US there are way more automatic cars than in Europe, but i always thought its because of the customers and you could buy them in manual if you want... My '93 Audi 80 could be bought here with 4 different transmissions (2x AT and 2x MT) and 10different engines (1.6, 1.6E, 2.0, 2.0E, 2.0E16V, 2.3E, 2.6E, 2.8E, 1.9TD, 1.9TDI) =)

It use to be like that but now that the average luxury buyer wants an AT, they don't even bother importing the diesels or MT anymore. I think we only got the 2.0 and the 2.6 V6 ( Then the 2.8 came later). Back then you could get either engine with an AT or MT. Like right now for instance the A4 sedan only comes with the 2.0T in 6MT Quattro or 2.0T with AT in Quattro/FWD. The FWD comes with the CVT and Quattro comes with the Tiptronic. The Avant comes in 2.0T AT. It's pretty lame. No Avant MT?!

Wait, I'm wrong. We did get the 2.3 I5, too. We never got the S2 or RS2, though. If we did, I'd have an RS2! Lol. I love AWD wagons but you haven't been able to get the A\4 Avant with an MT since 05'. And you can RARELY ever find one before that with the MT. So I went with an 02' Outback. Growing up my parents always owned Subaru, they're good cars, and here in Colorado you need AWD to do anything out of a major city. Best part is most have a 5MT. Are Subarus pretty popular in Switzerland?

I don't know about the rest of Europe but here in Switzerland, out of the big cities, you can find them everywhere, especially in high and mountainous regions. They are the first choice for mountain farmers. They are not that expensive, durable, have a good AWD system and enough space. Everything you need to work with!

I live in a pretty flat part of Switzerland, here you can see less Outbacks or Foresters...

Sorry pal but the hardcore drag skylines are in the 7 sec range (new zealand fastest 7,57 sec btw) and the street drag spec gtr's the 8 or 9 sec thats not nfs too just reality.

In the late 90's japanase street drag spec skylines at the 9's and the 8's around 10 years ago.

In 2002 at willoybank raceway HKS drag spec skyline runs 7,95@292.

Anyway both 4wd 5cylinder audis and skyline gtr's have great tuning potentials but the fact is the RB has a bit bigger

Yes but some "youtube doctors" compare the audi 5cyl with rb26 gtr. Both tecnique are great of course i had a few fun experience with both (few drag run and midnight street race) but my vote next to the gtr cos im jdm fan.

how many races do ur skylines last before needin 2 replace nearly a whole engine or a turbo at a minimum? one? maybe two? this car will race at a minimum 100 times be4 anything needs to be replace not 2 mention the cost is about a 1/4 of ur skylines. not 2 mention this isn't the fastest the rs2 engine can go in 86 they were putting down 0-60 times in 3.2 seconds what was the skylines putting out in 86? n if im not mistaken the gtrs dont have awd so its possible theyd lose in a race with curves
