bad option, if you want to upgrade get an external drive to keep all your files/folders safe and secure. RAM is more important internally because you need more ram as we progress into newer OS.
Not really I think I figured it out (you got me thinking) Time Machine needs an external Hard drive (be it wired or wireless) and stores all the data on that. So it's only accessed when needed and doesn't take up space everyday. I hope that made sense to you, it did in my head haha.
so what if i dont have an external hard drive and i need to go back in time cause i accidentely lost something?? are you saying thats not possible unless i get an external hard drive?? please help me!
I need help with two things. First. I have the 13" MB with 2GB of ddr3. I want to upgrade to 4GB of ddr3. I play CoD4 and use photoshop and many tabs in safari. What are the biggest differences i will see with the upgrade?
Second, I also want to upgrade my 160GB HD to 500GB. about half of my 160GB is used up. Which upgrade do you think would be better to get first in your opinion? RAM or HD?
Upgrade the RAM first. You'll certainly notice the difference in Photoshop, especially with large files. Definitely more RAM if you're using Photoshop and Safari at the same time.
A newer larger faster hard drive will decrease loading times for applications and games, but won't help them run any better.
I have a macbook and obviously, when its closed its sleeping. If I let it sleep for over an hour it will just back up the next time it "wakes up". And if i unplug the HD and then plug it in again, it remembers the HD and the time machine settings, right?
the external hard drive comes up under devices on the finder right? and you can put files on the external hard drive from the finder right? please answer
He doesn't have rocketdock. the dock on his computer comes with it. xD But it's not really called rocketdock, rocketdock is for people who want the doc but don't have a mac.
I'm confused; I have 20 gigs used on my hard drive, if time machine were to back up those 20gb every hour, wouldn't a 500gb hard drive would be full after a day?
Yeah I switched my company from PC's after we blew tons on Crappy Vista and when we started using macs this came in handy while coding. I also love the fact that apple gives their software compiler out for free where as Microsoft charges for it... I'm a happy Apple user...
So how do you actually delete something from your computer if time machiene can always bring it back, hense you never loose anything and are always loosing space on your external HDD.
question: if I exclude some folders by checking off the boxes during time machine set up (for example, I may not want to keep my temporary files), will I still be able to restore everything else backed up in the time machine to a new Mac? And when I say restore, I mean all the applications, settings, files, and bookmarks (excluding the files I choose not to back up). Thanks a lot.
#1 can you partition your external HDD with time machine? For example... I'm a musician and i want to have 200 Gb for time machine and the lasting 300 for Logic, music files and other miscellaneous things.
#2 Does time machine automatically back-up hourly or can you change that feature to your preferred time?
one of the main reasons i like Macs, is because they are so creative with stuff and do core animation whenever they get the chance! like on how time machine, the stars move while you are looking. when you look for a backup on windows, its just looking through folders. Mac rocks!
Yeah Mac rules! Except I have a question, how in the world does it do that without the document (even though being in the past...) not take up any space (as in Mega Bytes and stuff)? It just makes no sense to me how time machine recovers it when it takes up no space on the hard drive... or does it?
does time machine keep an hourly backup even the external hard drive is not connected?? because i just plug my MBP to the hard drive whenever i'm home. Thanks!!
thanks for the video man, seems to be a very simple, easy-to-use process (and one that'd definitely come in handy with my luck with computers).
the only con that I noticed, probably just personal preference, is the excessive animations that accompany doing a search/restore (or just about anything else in OS X). do you know if it's possible to turn them off?
hey John, i have the airport extreme base station, can i connect a external drive to the usb behind my router or does it have to be connected directly to my computer
i d bout it. Apple will just say "oh, just use time capsule." well that costs money for us but apple doesnt mind lol. maybe someone will write up a hack for it sometime in the future. idk.
Excellent video! Time Machine really is a wonderful feature. I've already used it once and it worked perfectly. I accidentally overwrote a file and I needed some text from the previous version, so I went back in time with TM and got the file.
Thanks for making this video. I really want more people to discover how cool TM really is.
hey jon, did you buy screenium or do you just use the demo and patch the video together. Its seems like a good program for screen capture, something i've been looking for. let me know how it works.
so say you have 100 gigs of music on ur mac. then u have an external of 250 gigs..since it backs evrything does that mean ur now down to 150 gigs of space on external?
Thanks for sharing the demo.

RAM vs hard drive space? Which one would you upgrade!?
If you had 2 GB of RAM, and 320 GB hard drive space! Which one would you upgrade?

ROFL i would upgrade hard drive EVERY TIME no matter what (unless i had under 1gb of ram).

RAM makes ur comp faster, upgrade to 4gigs. 320 gb of HD is not bad

Does this backup saved video games? For example, if I was playing (The SIms 2) will it back up the saved games?
joewillgo 2 years ago
Yup.. it backs up everything. Nothing will be lost.
Use Time Machine myself BTW. Say the hard drive dies, I can be back going where I left off in just a few hours, with minimal effort.

When you put in your DVD, you can restore from time machine.

I bought screenium because i loved the quality on the trial, it's still in beta although it seems pretty much like a final version to me :D
So basically i think it's very good :D
Also note that compared to ishowu it is much easier to use with clear options and presets for recording :D
Hope that helped!
