  • it has fuckin windows 7 wat the fuck

  • it's netbook and not umpc.

  • hello this is jkontherun and toooooooddddaaaaayyyy....lol

  • It is funny when this first came out we only had umpc's, which cost over a grand, so you thought the 600 dollars was a good deal. Now anyone who pays more than 300 for a netbook is crazy. The 2 best ones ever made, this 2133 and the Nokia Booklet, can both be bought now for 300 or less, and NOW they are worth it.

  • the hp mini is not a UMPC

  • hmzi am ready for some action any guys want to take the challenge?

  • i wish the 1030nr's had that type of shell, im not hating on the black casing but that looks like it wouldnt attract as many finger prints and looks more sturdy

  • This guy goes a little heavy on the pimp jewelry.

  • im on my hp mini right now

  • any problems/ drawbacks with it?

  • you never said why theres nothing on the back

  • why is there a hibernation mode if it takes longer than booting it up ?!? thats where macbooks are great.. you can change the battery even when they are only in standby

  • Comment removed

  • i just ordered this netbook (hp mini 2140) for $300 which I think is a great deal.

  • where @?

  • i can get it for 200 at a verizon store

  • f*@king rip off

  • your saying that it starts at $499 but on the commercial it says only $199 and ive been looking around and there is places, shops/websites that sell it for $199 and im pretty sure this is the same one, i just want to kow if i should get it, and im seeing comments saying it gets really hot...

  • This review is a year old :-)

  • o well i already bought a laptop, =)

  • rofl $749 thats a fucking rip off

you can buy an Eee with 2gb ram, the atom, and a 7.2k hdd for $300

  • yea

  • Jesus, painful to watch..... lets pick up the pace!

  • Were you a history teacher???????

    BOARINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • Do not buy this piece unless you want to get your hands burned. It is a PC in a small size, but cant be used!

it warms as pan. How come a firm like HP handed this over to me?

  • Just want to make a comment. I recently purchased this netbook model. It works very well, it is light weight and you can install any software as if it were a desktop PC. After using for some time, I think this is an ideal model for travelling because it is small and handy. However, the main observation I can make is that it heats over a reasonable temperature. With a cooler fan the problem can be avoided but at the end when you want to use it for travelling you have to carry the cooler fan too.

  • I really enjoyed ur video. Most sincere review of a product I've seen in a while. Very, very nice job. Nice is an understatement, but, u get the point. I feel proud, because of unique & honest reviews like urs to live in this Internet/technology age. Thank u so much. Even though I wouldn't buy this umpc, u deserve much thanks for making this video.

  • nice review i want that pc

.... Cuestion: I can play online games like MapleStory in this Netbook?

  • Yea, this won't be a problem!

It /probably/ isn't as good as netbooks with Intel CPUs und GPUs, but I saw it work with XP really, really good.

  • i do NOT recommend buying this computer. way too hot and a very slow processor (i use vista business). even sometimes on youtube i cannot watch videos clearly.

the only one thing good about this computer is the size.

if you didn't buy it yet, do NOT buy it i swear you will hate this thing.

  • you expected to run vista well on a 1gig processor?

  • yeah vista sucks anyway... hope win7 will be better... until its release i want to use xp again

ahm... i think about buying this nice notebook but i am not sure because Samsung N310 is nice too...what do you guys here think?

  • Flame: not a umpc. its a netbook, you cant test performance by running tons of apps, you have to utilize them all at the same time. but in contrast to most netbooks (eeepc, and etc) yes it is nice.

Praise: Nice demonstrations. Nice and clear voice. Non moving camera.

  • unfortunately he keeps looking to the side of the camera - it seems that he is being cued on by someone...

  • u talk too slow and say the same stuff over and over again.... kevin does it much better and covers more throughly!

  • If only this was a 1.6ghz cpu across the range. Here in the UK we get a slower via chip, the 1.2GHz and its slow as hell with suse or xp. If you are in the UK stay clear of this model. It's a shame as it is the best constructed one we have tested yet at work.

  • Agreed, only other issues is the slightly upped price in comparison to other netbooks and the glossy display (which is a disaster for a mobile device but, hey noone's perfect).

Hopefully this little fellow will come with atom or nano cpu's within a couple of months. That'd make it THE notebook replacement to get.

  • It bothers my that hes says that the hinge system is an hp innovation, when apple used that same system on the ibook g3 im watching this on. via 2001!

  • UMPC is a piece of god damn shit!

  • for a little more than $749+tax i can get a real notebook 13-14 inch with a better cpu and graphics card. this HP isn't worth it i don't care how "sexy" or "well-built" it is.

  • how much memory does it have?

  • does the webcam come with every model and does it have a built in microfone?

  • both. why not? we are in year 2008.

  • Any word on reviewing the one with SuSE Linux on it? I have yet to see one with Linux - only TigerDirect did one and didn't really focus on what OpenSuSE has to offer. I use it as one of my virtual machines but i think it would be good for those who are curious about Linux.

  • speak a little bit faster dude... you are desperating

  • Does anyone know it you can add a DVD player to this? It so it would be so perfect to travel with!

  • Can it run Crysis?

  • buy an xps dell if you want to play crysis

  • I was kidding... And I would rather build my own PC than buy an overpriced on from Dell.

  • Aaaand toooooo ..... dddaaayyyyyyyy .... :)

  • hey i like ur video! i luv the review.. HP2133 is the best..

  • 1 gb ram is abit little shud be like 3 or 4

  • Wow.

Almost a minute to start up and judging by the hard drive LED activity it still had not finished even after a minute+

  • I love your watch???

What make and model is it??

  • The MSI wind beats this hands down.

  • nope it doesnt

  • It certainly does!!!

Were you not looking at the performance???

  • I agree with you.

  • Hey thanks for the review man, definitely the best review that I've seen for the 2133 hp mini, keep up the good work!

  • and you didn't have to watch it the 30 min

  • this didnt need to be 30 minutes

  • YOU Show a deep love for your Pc!! Why don't you kiss it?? I am joking of course.. Excelent Pc!!

  • Highly appreciate the information, but could you possibly speed up the review for those of us that are multi-tasking?

  • I bought one of these machines and it is fantastic. For all those that think the Via might be under powered, Vista Business is working just fine. I have the high end model, 1.6, 2 gigs of RAM, 7200 drive and I'm very impressed. Via released new video drivers which improved performance significantly. Screen resolution, keyboard, sound, build quality are best in it's class. Performance with Vista with Areo turned on is quite acceptable.

  • hi so what the video playback like then is it jerky or smooth ive head its still just as bad with the new drivers?

  • I would have already purchased one of these if they didn't have the Via CPU in it. A 1.6GHZ Via CPU can't even compare to a 1.0GHZ Pentium M. You get less clock for more hertz.

  • To play DVD's on this you could use a USB DVD player or a DVD image mounted via Daemon Tools on the Hard Disk.

  • have you heard any updates on better battery cells? im planning on using it for school, and if it only lasts 4 hours im not going to buy it.

  • The fan is on the bottom by the look.

Be carefull about the blue screen of death!!!

  • hey are you able to play dvds with this laptop? i dont know that much about computers

  • No, no optical drive.

  • is "hibernating" the same thing as turning the computer off?

  • hibernating stores your session on your hard drive so you can start back up more quickly than turning it off then starting it again.

(hibernating and sleeping your computer can corrupt files so avoid it if you can so just turn it off.)

  • Great review, I was looking around as I'm thinking of buying this and this has made my mind up! Cheers =D

Also you answered some questions I was looking to be answered =D

  • i was just looking at the mine on their site, top model lists at $934 w/just hp upgrades, not sure but i think it the same mine you used

  • i like the computer .. but i realize that you never mention a cd runer ..... does it hace one ??? ?

  • i'm not gonna lie, this computer looks awesome

i would definitely get it with linux though

the only thing...APPLE FIRST "INVENTED" THE SCREEN THE OPENS BEHIND THE LAPTOP ITSELF!!!

  • Alluminium*

Official name is the HP Mini Note*

    Very boring review...

  • The US guys have now changed their spelling to Aluminum, since so many people are unable to pronounce Aluminium! ;) I'm glad I'm British!

  • good hp 2133...i some to buy........

  • Wery, wery good work!

I dont understand english (i`m ukrainian), but i understand every word and every sentence wich this man spoke! I think this is the gift of speaking and oratoring.

Wery, wery big thanks for you job, sir! I take a great pleasure seen this video.

  • Nice review, sir!

  • thanks for this review! hope u can also make one for MSI Wind. :)

  • forn future ref if yer gunna name drop dont use HP

  • ive seen better

  • Keep up the good work, I enjoy watching this review in particular because im deciding between the EEE PC 900 series and This HP UMPC....and i think i just decided that this notebook is the best choice...thanks

  • Hi..i've been thinking the same thing.. but there's so many choices, and my budget is only less than $800.. can you also help me choose which is the best mini notebook that works really good? thanks

  • This computer sucks with Windows.

Get Linux on the high end machine and you will get an amazing product. Too bad the high end model doesn't come with Linux. I would get one intermediately if they start shipping the high end with a decent operating system.

  • I've never understood how many of these types of portable notebooks offer the best stats only with windows.

  • the screen's hinge is not unique; Apple has been doing it for a long time with their macbooks.

  • para el trabajo, esto no tiene precio ¡viva!

  • porque no?

  • haha yea i agree, he rox:P

  • lol @ VERY VERY NIIIIIIIIIICE

    BORATSTYLE

  • Very (2seconds) Very (2seconds) Nice. (5seconds). I am talking (2seconds) about (2seconds) the (2seconds) HP Mininote......

na this guy isn't annoying at all he's kool

  • Anyone have any success installing 3g card on linux

  • vista cripples such hardware. soooooo slow. resuming/start up times are ridiculous. get the suse linux version. snappy and pleasant to use. will handle anything the windows version can and lets face it - your not exactly going to be playing games on this thing are you!? as a full time ubuntu user i can say there is very little/nothing i miss from windows and so many advantages.

  • The battery becomes a stand? It only becomes a stand because it's no so damn huge. The whole small slim factor almost disappears with that huge thing.

  • only the 6cell battery is huge.. if u want to use the normal default 3cell battery itll be small

  • I know.

I'm just saying, the way the reviewer is trying to counter the whole 'loss of slimness factor' is with the ability to make a stand. Pretty horrible.

  • How can you put a 30min. video on Youtube? I only can up to 10min. :( :(

  • If u r a director, u can

  • how can I be a director?

paying everymonth or someting like that? :S

  • director and pays youtube

  • Cuando venga a España este verano me la compro

    :D

I'll buy it when It comes to Spain this summer

    :D

  • Looks like a great machine, but it's obvious you'd have to care more about the looks than about the little five second waits here and there. Or else you'd have to be too broke to care either way.

  • LOL so much for "on the run"!

  • The EEE pc is just too small, kind of hard to type sometimes..

This HP is the perfect size for an UMPC

    (I think)

GOOD VIDEO!! is just what I needed :D

  • not to mention the cheap plastic feel

  • Thanks for the video.

    Very thorough and informative.

I might actually get this instead of Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium that I've been planning on getting.

  • is this guy trying to sell us this?

i thought it was a "review"...

  • yore an idiot. update ypur info!!

  • TERRIBLE CPU, bad battery life... no buy!

Other than that it is extremely nice... what a shame!!!!

  • If this had an Intel chip I would be interested in a purchase but since it has a Via it's a big no thanks.

  • yep...you are rite with that one...

if you don't have Eee already to play in the meantime better wait till models with atom diamondville come out...guess in max 6 months market will be splashed with lot of models: Eee, ECS G10IL, MSI Wind, HP mini, Dell all with atom...

for me standard should be: atom, minimum 4 hrs battery life, 120GB, 2GB Ram, not more then 1.2kg = 2 lbs, 8.9inch, max eur 550, usd 550, lbs 350.

  • Yeah! Since I am a student, I also like ultra portable computers! Easy to carry around!

    KEEP IT UP HP!!!!!

  • >>>

-price should go down 20% particularly in Europe.

-Atom Diamonville ''inn'' for Vista models.

Simply said, back to construction table...and keep that pretty Alu box...can be used even at the present stage...when I go fishing...can use it for baits :)

  • well this can be everything but: uMOBILEpc...

    -1.31hrs 3 cells battery life!MOBILITY?

-with 6 cells battery weights 1.5kg!HEAVY?

-display super-over-reflective! MOBILITY=WORK UNDER OUTSIDE CONDITIONS?

-VIA processor not effective enough to run Vista! SLOW, NOISY, OVERHEATED !

-display should be extended to full possible size, speakers deleted from present place.

-Linux models should be Win competitive=Win drives included

-hp mini should be 'open source' for upgrading, but not sealed.

    >>>

  • not all pc's are made for all the same reasons. This pc is geared more for the student. Students don't study on computers outside all that much if at all. That's what the library is for. Also shiny screens are "prettier/cooler" which is what most college students would prefer. Also students, although needing somewhat good battery life, doesn't need TOO much, because classes are usually only so long and when you're not in class you're probably in the library where there are power outlets.

  • Battery life is no good, I'll wait for a UMPC with 5-6 hours battery life and DVD rewriter.

It also seems to get overheated too easily.

6 months from now, a company will come up with a spec that'll be much better than this. Also, in the UK, I've seen they will cost £450that's way too much money!! Until they make one that costs £300 I'll wait.

  • I ordered the HP Mini-Note from the HP web site yesterday. I got the $749 Vista Business, 120 GB HD, 2 GB RAM. This was to be a secondary computer for taking with me places but I could see it getting a lot more use except for my video editing. I'll report more on the production model after I get it.

  • sweet, Can you load a 720i video on it when u get it?

There are a few samples online, but if u can't find any I can send you via email for testing purposes.

Looks damn good, I am severely tempted although they are not available in japan quite yet

  • i just ordered that same one too. I'm hoping it can play videos while running word and IE with no problems. I've got a couple 720p and 1080p vids i'm gonna test it with. Won't be getting the laptop for another week or so though :(

  • Will be waiting for the videos of the results of those tests and the price of the dollar to drop some more! :)

  • I like XP better, if I buy the Linux version can I put XP on it?

  • U have the option of XP if u don't want Vista.

If u have used linux, then u should have enough knowledge to know that u can install XP on it if u wanted, hell, u can install Mac OSX leopard on it if u know how!

  • Yep, that may be true...only if the Win drivers are supplied like with Eee.

  • Hey JK,

Can you play HD Video on this chipset? (and post results on a little youtube vid??)

I am talking about 720i Video taken from a Sanyo Xacti HD700. It would make a great travel companion, so hopefully it will be able to play the videos.

There are loads of test clips online you can download and for the test.

Your quicktime clip playback wasn't really the best example of modern real world functionality. Divx full screen using VLC would be great to see too.

    Thanks

  • very innovative

  • Nice vid man but this thing will be slow as hell since it only has 512 and vista...

  • ...compelling hp?

let me help: Eee appealed with its innovation, almost perfect and logical combination of components and with its PRICE !!!

top model of hp mini range (the only one I can reconsider as a bit interesting, because of 6 cell battery) will cost in Europe eur 700 and probably much more plus...

well, hp missed the idea and the concept: we want something like that with atom and for eur 500-550 max !

even better: MSI Wins and ECS G10IL are coming soon...and so beautifully white :)

  • well, this man lovezzzzzz making YouTube videos... :)

he could squeeze all of his infos in 5 minutes max :)

what about running photoshops on it...maybe 6 or CS2-3...some video editing programs?...that wold be interesting to see...

maybe another 45 minutes video to come? :)

  • don't tempt him, he will probably show us the video encoding processing in realtime!

  • you should install XP !!

  • i want to know linux version can run compiz fusion 3D desktop?

if can , i will buy one!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! Cooooool!

  • Nice review, but you got several things wrong.

    1. The $499 model will have only 512MB RAM, not 1GB

    2. The $499 model will not have a hard drive, it will have a 4GB SSD

    3. Only one of the four models will have a 1.6 GHz CPU, the other three will have either a 1.0 GHz or a 1.2 GHz

  • i think you got number 2 wrong.. what i have heard is that if you have windows installed it will either have 120gb or 160gb.

if you go with linux you get a 4g SSD

  • The $499 model is the base Linux version and comes with a 4 GB SSD,512MB RAM, and a 1.0 GHz C7-M CPU. The cheapest Vista model costs $599 and has a 120 GB hard drive.

  • Superb review! Thank you so much for your long video which presents everything in detail. Exactly what users want to see before buying a gadget.

  • these full 30min reviews are great! good work! this is better reviews ive seen. please don't change your video style: keep it long. i loathe less than 5min reviews i.e. cnet

  • o i want one thank you for the great review.

  • yeah, this is by far one of the better reviews for this laptop

    very informative

    thanks for the help :)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! GREAT FULL REVIEW! I was leaning with the eee pc but i think thats changed.

  • The VIA CPU just kills it's chance against the EEE.

  • Impressive, just amazing. Now you got me, HP!

When will this sweet baby come to Taiwan? I want one right away!

It will be a milestone in the Subnote/UMPC era!

  • If it had an Intel based processor, I'd buy two! The VIA isn't terrible but, not my favorite. Thanks James!

  • Great scoop James! And I dig the new lighting. :-)
