that was in the 80's maybe ( my thoughts) it was fogged by the people that canned it, look into the t.v refresh rate and screen flicker, its a hypnotic system, please look into it, its simple, get info (youtube is great for that) + YOU think about it = make YOUR own mind up,my thoughts is that for whatever reason, if you remember this, you was not sheepled into forgetting what you saw, oyeah in the late 70's film makers put a shot (a frame) of coca cola, cinema coke sale X18 thats a fact
@freeminded4ever, and talk about completely delusional. You don't want people to send mean comments back at you, then STOP SAYING CRAZY THINGS AND PRETENDING IT'S COMPLETELY NORMAL WHAT YOU JUST SAID.
@SanDiegoSouth (I'm not interested in hearing from you. Move along.) .... well dont reply if your thoughts dont hold water, YOU move on aimlessly as is your way, some friendly advise dont waste your time with replying to comments, with your static, white noise thoughts, more importantly dont waste other people's time,
* READ THIS* if you are reading this watch Michael Tsarion, well in the credits and the show there is real technology, yeah i know, but look into it, the two suns in the credits, well ages ago there was a planet of oceans, no land masses.... look at origins of evil by michael tsarion, also how do people i watched this program with when i was young, simply have forgot it? i even remember asking my older cuz, why the program was not on the following sat'day, he said what program !
Someone needs to do a new version. Maybe have another family or a group get caught up in the same experiance and perhaps refrence that the same thing happened to a family in the 80's, maybe have some of the original cast guest star even. :)
@mayena Universal owns the TV rights to the series. So, if anybody wants Otherworld on DVD, it would be through Universal or Shout! Factory, who are known for getting the rights to short-lived Universal shows like Street Hawk and Tales Of The Gold Monkey.
I remeber this show from being a child but couldn't remember the name or the actors. Not too long a go I remembered Jonathan Banks was in the show but didn't know his name.So I had to look for movies with Banks in it but not knowing his name was a handicap. Finally Under Siege 2 was on TV and after that was much easier...I had a great flashback!
This show was so ahead of it's time, and so family oriented that it literally scared the critics from saying anything good about it. Fantastic story-lines, and the family make-up of how they have to constantly survive in a new and or alternate reality was truly brilliant. My only wish would have been to allow this show to have had a longer lifespan on television, because I rank it right up there with the likes of Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, and that's pretty good if you ask me.

8 episodes aired-VERY unlikely more than 1-2 more would have been shot. If so, SCI-FI probably would have had them. Jonathan Banks or Sam Groom would know & probably can be reached thru Web. Canceled for low ratings. Sci-fi Saturdays 8pm following Airwolf was a lousy slot
I read these comments & I feel like I'm reading my own posts! I too loved this show when I was a teen... And for years seemed to be the only person on the planet (or at least, the 'zone') who remembered it!?! I do recall in the early 90's, the Sci-Fi Channel (And I DO mean Sci-Fi... You know, the one that actually showed vintage Sci-Fi in between commecial breaks!) aired it in a mini-marathon event. (Where they showed coplete blocks of short-lived shows!)
I enjoyed this show back when it was on and I remembered the theme music to this day. It plays a little slower than i thought I remembered but pretty much as I remembered it.
I used to LOVE this show. I remember being thrilled by the episode where the kids were pop stars and had their own Barbie type dolls in a shop. Hey, I was a kid!
Yes, I too was a kid who remembered this show, but never could think of the name!!! It was a really good time during this era, when shows like this aired. Only in the 80's.
@mysouljourney2012 IT did come on in the mid 80's i remember it, just about, for some reason it hit a nerve with some powerful people and it got cancelled, the all seeing eye is on the program alot, also the dollar (American) the triangle thing with a eye in it, perhaps a truth was revealed, look into it, Michael Tsarion ( subversive use of symbolism) and david wilcock is a good start on youtube and the net, Very interesting,
@mysouljourney2012 They did actually air this show in the UK. I watched it when I was a kid. I remembered the theme tune and the name 'commander kroll' but like many here people I asked thought I'd made it up and responded with blank stares!! Good to know my memory is perfectly intact. lol!
I remember and loved this show when I was a kid. Its funny cuz all the other comments r sooo true. My mom doesn't remember and no one else. Great show for the time
You know whats weird, its like everyone i know, old friends, family (cousins etc), kids from my area in the 80's NO one remembers this program ! its like it was too much for people brains to grasp so therefore the minds simply blocked it out or something, the myster remains, i have seen other people here having written something along those line, well took me 25 years to find the name of the program, thank god for youtube / the net :-)
@freemind4ever I remember this show from when it originally aired back in the mid-'80s and also when USA Network used to air the reruns. I have the WWF's first Royal Rumble on tape when it was on USA and there was a commercial for this show during one of the breaks.
Why was this show canceled? It may seem a little cheesy now, but at the time I remember being blown away by the concept. It was the first time I had ever seen a show dealing with the idea of another dimension or a parallel earth. Considering how many shows and movies since then ( Stargate, SG-1, Sliders) have been based on a similar premise, I think Otherworld was a pretty groundbreaking program.
@idrmofjean Otherworld was originally a mid-season show that unfortunately suffered in the ratings. You are right that it was groundbreaking, the closest thing too it at the time was the old 70's program "The Fantastic Journey". The creator Roderick Taylor created this show based on a wish by a producer friend who wanted a way to have a program like "Lost in Space" only set on Earth. The result was this program which Rod and his son Bruce created from the ground up.
After watching The Last Starfighter and googling the actors came across this. Thought it was only in my imagination. Was a great series when I was a kid but no-one else seemed to remember it.
This was my favorite show when I was a kid. I was heartbroken when it got cancelled. I remember Trace went on to Head of the Class and Nova was in A Nightmare On Elm Street. I wanted this show to be real. heh heh
@SanDiegoSouth I know how you feel. I had a vague memory of the series but couldn't remember with enough detail for anyone to know what the hell I was talking about.
@SanDiegoSouth ook into Michael Tsarion origins of evil and the mysterium, if you remember this, like me, took me years of asking for someone to tell me the name of it, then seeing it on you tube, any comments i am happy to hear, we can all learn from each other, please dont deflate my thoughts of all people are basically good, by swearing or saying anything else bad, thankyou
@freeminded4ever, if you don't want someone to swear at you or say anything else bad to you, then refrain from sending nutty sounding comments like the one you've taken upon yourself to send, unsolicited, on a subject that's completely incongruent to what everyone else is talking about. I don't want to "look into Michael Tsarion" and anything like that. When someone sends a comment completely out of left field, it's difficult not to be annoyed.
@daltexmex Yes, it always stood out in my brain as really fantastical and sophisticated! But...I was 12 and thought the Dukes of Hazzard were cool, too;-)

@daltexmex It probably did look better when it originally aired rather than this degraded quality video/audio from a VHS recording. Compare it to shows like Airwolf in terms of effects.
I have been looking for a long time aswell. I couldnt rember the name, but I rembered the premise and many of the episods. It took Youtube for me to find it..lol. Thanks for posting this this. I feel better now that I've finally found it!!! it was a GREAT show!
