Ive been trying to learn the quint part for about a week...it has one gock, and when I play it....it doesnt sound anything close to what THEYRE playing it D:
@TheLogan1165 ok what does "top" snares mean exactly. Cause I just purchased a new pearl championship snare and would love to get it sounding great or almost like this.
Can anyone please tell me (or just write it out) how to play that opening snare lick? I have a copy of Electric Wheelchair, but it is a little different. Drum lines change intros all the time anyway, too. But the point is that I can't figure out exactly how to play that (mostly I mean the measure just before all the snares join in) and would love to find out, because it sounds BA. Thanks =)
@ajcf1995 Remo Black Max Kevlar...mind you this was back in 2002. Kevlar isn't that popular anymore. When i Marched Cadets in '02 we used the same heads just in white.
how in the world do you get the heads that high? even with precise tuning, my head always goes shot any time im even HALF of that tuning!! i really like those though, those heads sound thin and crisp.
The snares sound way better farther away. While they might not have the greatest tuning in the lot, I'll bet they sounded great in the stands and projected really well as hyper soprano voices (if you were there, by all means, feel free to contradict!)
Can someone explain to me the snare intro lick? It's too fast for me to catch what they're doing, and I can't find the sheet music for '02 anywhere. Thanks.
How many of you think these actually sounded like that in real life? If there's one thing I know about videos of any drumline is that they don't accurately portray how they really sound.
Go look at the Blue Devils 2002 video, the snares sound extremely similar. I'd pay money to bet they were recorded with the exact same camera.
@jacobisreallycool It's the opening lick for "The Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor" from the Blue Devil's 1976 DCI show. As for music, it sounds really easy
@drumpredator1 its how the heads get put on. The rim will be low if they put on and cranked tight the top head before the bottom head was put on and tightened. to get a good balance of rim on both sides of the drum (what i do) you put both heads on lose then tighten back and fourth untill desired level
maybe its the quality of the sound, but at the beginning, the snares sounded like they were playing on a table. But as it progressed it sounded better.
@whitecastleawesome well they sound like pipe band snare. and after time, you would think that people would try to tune even higher, but in fact they went down a little bit and they don't use the snares under the batter anymore
@GSellFitness Even back then, these snares caused a lot of rumblings. They were cranked further than anyone else on tour that summer and not many liked it.
@TheMightyZooblin Many people do. To me it doesn't sound like they are breathing or resonating, and thats what drums are ment for (soundwise) to breate and be alive, not choked up. I love scv , and i tune my tenors to the 08 pitches since 08. cause they tune their tenors awesomely. Im not a fan of them choking the basses either. But thats drumming, its all personal taste :)
How do you play that tap-off at the beginning? It's not in the music I have. Like instead of Rlrr Lrll RRLL RRLL they have something with a shot and a buzz
Ok, Why is the piece called Electric Wheelchair? If I may ask? This is coming from a guy in a wheelchair, not offended by any means just inquiring about the title thats all.
To bad there is not a recording of this cadence with the way it was first written. Much more manly than the wimp-ass 5 stroke rolls in the beginning.
