  • i heard they made it bent because he had some sort of hand problem so to help him grip and use the lightsaber it was bent for comfort and so it wouldnt hurt him to use it. because he was pretty old it seemed in the movies

  • lflank the third saber you made is galon marts saber

  • The last one was sooooooooo cool :-)!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • u are so cool but really nerdy, no offense!

  • @simplemagickids he is not nerdy he is awesome he is teching us how to make awesome props for fan films

  • will you teach me how to make a obi wan lightsaber from episode 1 ?

  • how did u get the edges of the cutouts to be so smooth

  • thankyouthankyou thankyou, you inspired me to make my own a couple of years ago and now im still making em.

  • ever think of making some more clonewars sabers like ashoka or asajj ventress it would be difficult but in the end it would look awsesome.

  • i like the last one you showed ALOT

dookus saber is curved more in the center but like you said in other videos.. be creative.. nice sabers..

  • How do you put the blade in

  • Sweet swords!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if i wanted to make the power button a red cap, how would i glue it onto the saber i just made

  • I was just glancing around at other lightsaber prop videos and 99% are complete shit. You definitely have the best lightsaber videos on youtube.

  • what about the (hook) thin at the top of dookus saber

  • @nvail17 just make it out of the plastic for sale sign and paint it silver.

  • what is the final cost of the dooku lightsaber?

  • Comment removed

  • cool i want they all

  • Yeah a bent handle really does allow for a very different style of fighting..More angle-based.

  • The final lightsaber that you present is Starkillers lightsaber when he becomes a sith in the alternative ending of star wars the force unleashed!! Got to say, that you made it great and I'll defenately make one of these once I manage to find the materials that you advise! Thanks again and keep up the good work!!!

  • I've never played The Force Unleashed, so I don't know what that lightsaber looks like. Mine is based on a medieval mace--theirs probably was too.

  • @lflank Probably, I figured that out sir once I checked one of your comments, which means that it's just coincidence!! Your work is excellent and you should also check out the game yourself and see the similarities of these two lightsabers!! Thanks again!

  • i dont like it

  • I have a challenge for you, can you make an alien vs. predator alien costume? is it an challenge

  • good for you :D

  • of course YOU, Iflank, would have more lightsabers than General Grievous... i get the joke, Grievous had 4 lightsabers cause he was trained by Count Dooku

  • @flembagg966

I thought general grevious had those lightsabers as a collection from the jedi he killed

  • today i've build the last saber. a little bit different in my own style

  • Comment removed

  • the last saber is the best

  • what made you come up with the idea of using a plastic for sale sign for the fins in the last light saber?

  • Well, I needed something that was stiff, durable, easy to cut, cheap, and easy to find. A plastic sheet of some sort was the ideal, and a for sale sign is the easiest way to get one.

  • pardon me, i meant plastic extension PIPE, not saber

    sorry...

  • Iflank, im trying to make a dooku saber and the 45 degree P.V.C thing wont stick in the plastic extension saber

    =(

    any advice?

  • What do you mean by "won't stick"?

If you mean it won't stay, then glue it in there.

If you mean it doesn't fit, then you need a different size.

  • Comment removed

  • hey that lightsaber at 3:47 is from the force unleashed video game

  • Actually it's not -- I've never played The Force Unleashed, and have never seen any of the lightsabers in it.

I based that one on a medieval mace.

  • it would be better to use 3 pvc pipes and put them together like yo did

  • just a thought If you attached all the pieces then heated up the center of the pvc bend you could bend it to the desired angle :-)

  • Please please please don't anyone actually try this. You *absolutely* will burn your house down. Have you any idea at all what the plasticity temperature of steel is . . . ?

  • i must say that you are the fucking man

  • Dooku's saber design was always my favorite.

  • AWESOME! BTW, where do you get the for sale signs?

  • you can just buy them at ace hardware

  • yeah but i live in England and there is no ace hardware there

  • oh well you can get it at any hardware store :)

  • as far as what he said at 2:31, the bent handle DOES have an effect on fighting. It strikes at awkward angles and makes it harder for a Jedi (or Sith) to block it. Come on, Star Wars fans. Why arent you catching this?!?

  • Just like a saber used in fencing...

  • Fencing swords have curved handles, but they are only slightly bent - it helps with point control. But those swords are used ONLY for thrusting - they dont even have sharp edges. Dooku, however, uses the same slashing moves that everyone else does. So his fighting style does not match his handle style. That's because the curved handle was only put there to look different. It doesn't do anything for Dooku's fighting moves.

  • im sorry im not trying to be contrudicting but it does. lots of other siths used them to

  • You, uh, do understand that they are just comic books, right . . ?

I studied REAL medieval sword-fighting for an awfully long time. The curved handles don't do anything for Dooku's saber. Except make it look different.

  • yeah... but if you have a differently angled sword you are going to use different moves for it that may give you a advantage

  • the star wars jedi and sith fighting styles arent based on medieval sword fighting. they are based on kendo and fencing. there are seven different forms of lightsaber combat. count dooku uses form 2, makashi, which is very presice and the curved hilt gives him a different and more unique fighting style, one which is quite beneficial. ive been studying form 2 for a few years, and ive been taking fencing classes for three

  • the only form of lightsaber combat that utilizes brute force like medieval sword fighting is form 7, vapaad. also, you have to keep in mind that the combat is also very different because of the weight ratio. medieval swords can be very heavy, whereas a lightsaber blade has no weight at all.

  • true, to a point. medieval swords arent all that heavy, the heaviest one i own is no more than 6lbs. which is about average id say for a 2 handed claymoore. and yes theoretically in the star wars universe the lightsaber blade was a weightless blade of pure energy. which was why, if used by the wrong person (as in a non force sensitive) it could be deadly (for the person weilding it)... :P

  • 1. it depends how and where on the lightsaber you hold it.

    2. it also depends on how bent it is and where its bent. dooku's is bent far near the bottom so he hold it above the bend so it's just like a regular straight lightsaber.

    3. you suck.

  • (i mean jeffpeanutjose not you lflank)

  • actually, dooku's lightsaber is curved throughout the entire blade, but the way he holds it makes it appear that the curve is towards the bottom of it.

  • i agree

  • i saw the movie yesterday. he holds it in one hand at the top with his finger on the sticky-out bit.

  • @jeffpeanutjose yeah it was personally made by dooku because he trained studiously in the form 3 makashi or was it form

  • That's awesome ..

  • You are 100% correct whether or not he's seen or played the Force Unleashed it is from the game.

  • tbh with you it looks nothing like it...the spiked emitter is similar but no where near the same...

  • Ummm, Actually it was the crappy Hasbro version of TFU lightsaber, if you look it up Starkiller lightsaber on youtube it will have videos of people showing off the Real Starkiller Lightsaber.

  • Actually it's not -- I've never played "The Force Unleashed" and have never seen it.

It's based on a medieval mace.

  • by the way ur awesome and i love your lightsabers

  • PIIHB

  • cool thats nice

  • hey lflank, i built a bunch of lightsabers from your tutorials (but i didnt copy them) anyways thank you so much, and if you want to see one of them, its in my lightsaber effect tutorial if you want to check it out

  • I think the saber looked better without the spikes.... @ 5:37

  • its okay. i like it with the spikes better.

  • i noticed no electrics or leds and blades on you sabers dont you get bored makeing just a hilt why dont u put a poly carb blade in and a lux 3 led any color just 2 make ure sabers stand out more

  • See my Lightsaber Tutorials FAQ video.

They are intended as movie props -- the blades get added later as FX. But they can be fitted with dowels or LED/EL-wire blades and used for dueling.

For movies, though, I don't like the polycarb blades. They just don't look right on film.

  • 0.56

  • my brother rated it 3 stars but i think it is 5

  • the one at 3:50 is the best that is frieken sweeeet!!!!!

  • i really liked that last one very unique. If i was a sith lord i would want to use that as a saber, its very intimidating.

  • they made it with a bent handle so it would be more agile for deuling and the one with the three metal blades is really cool

  • Well, the "more agile for dueling" is the official line. It's wrong, though. Bent handles like that ARE used in fencing swords, which are used only for thrusting (they don't even have sharp edges) -- the bent handle gives better point control. But Dooku doesn't use the thrusting fencing style; he uses the same wide slashing movements as everybody else does (mostly because they look better on film). So, in reality, the bent handle was used just to make it look more elegant and different.

  • That's AWESOME!!! I think that Dooku's saber is the coolest. Thought, if I were to make this, I wouldn't have the cutout, because I don't have nor do I trust myself with power tools. But this is still the coolest tutorial ever.

  • the last ones super cool but the fin things look to long but its still awesome!!!!!!!!

  • that looks nothing like the real one because the end is the only part that is curved.

  • See my "Lightsaber Tutorial FAQ" video.

It's not SUPPOSED to look like the one in the movie. It is not a copy of the one in the movie -- it is only made in a similar curved style.

NONE of my sabers are copies of anything in the movies. If I wanted a copy of something in the movies, I'd buy it in Toys'R'Us.

  • hi i really like your work, and i wondered do you have an email adress that i can have :P it should been fun to talk to you

  • Congratulations IFLANK, great video, great hilts...GREAT JOB...¡¡¡

please let me know about another creations of yours...

  • When you cut out the pattern in your metal pipe, do you (or can you) smooth out the edges so you don't cut yourself when your hand is on the pattern?

  • Yes, I used a grinding stone in the Dremel tool to smooth all the edges and remove all the sharp burrs.

You can also use a file to do this.

  • OH MY GOSH! That third lightsaber REALLY looked intimidating! :0

    Now THAT'S a sith ligtsaber!

  • did u make the lightsaber your self.like all the lighting spring action etc>if u did wow!

  • that sith saber looks very similar to the secret apprentices lightsaber hilt while he is wearing the sith stalker costume in star wars The Force Unleashed im also a fan of your saber creation method and sabers of course. i have a couple suggestions as well, if you played star wars the force unleashed can u please make a model version of maris broods sabers and the saber lance

  • HE LOOKS LIKE COUNT DOOKU

  • is it possible to curve the entire hilt to make it more realistic like the movie version ?

  • Only if you can find a pipe that is curved like that. I couldn't.

  • dude the last 1 looked alot like the sith lord apprintices lightsaber from star wars the force unleashed, if u chose the bad side.

  • can u make anakin episode 3 lightsaber pleez???????

  • he made the Qio-Gonn jinn saber pretty awsome dude

  • nice t shirt

  • you should make a double bladed bent lightsaber

  • Umm...no Dude i've used ur designs and u r a genius but ur statement at 2:35 is only partially true. They did want to reflect his elagance but its advantage towrds regular straight sabers is the strikes come at a slightly diffrent angle cuz of the way u need to hold it & most r use to straight sabers. & with a blade that can cut through anything that makes a diffrence that can cost the opponent his life. they also show elagance in the fact that he has a fencing style instead of a normal stance.

  • Yes and no. Fencing blades have handles that are very slightly curved, to help with point control. Those are, however, used ONLY for thrusting, not for slashing -- they don't even have sharp edges. Dooku's is best suited for a thrusting-fencing style -- but instead, he uses the same wide slashing moves that everybody else does. So the "style" explanation is baloney. The sword was made curved so it would look more exotic and elegant. It really had nothing to do with how his sword is used.

  • you are so cool

  • Lol, yeah good job man i like your vids =). If the fins were red/ black it would look like the maces from Oblivion xD just came to me...

  • hey do you have some swords in the background?, you should make a video displaying your swords they look cool

  • you should make a mase window saber because its one of a kind and it looks cool

  • you need to make another vid there cool to watch thow i've never made a saber myself i think that i might try to now

  • the fins look kinda funny but it still looks awsome

  • Of course you can make the fins smaller or larger if you want. The saber also looks pretty good if you don't put any fins on at all.

    Just do what looks good.

  • man great job!.im thinking of making one my self pleas make another tutorial.and all of them are on my favriots

  • Count Dooku's lightsaber is curved because he is a master of the Makashi lightsaber form(form II). The curved hilts are said to be easier to use for Makashi practitioners to maneuver in precision. Makashi is known to be an elegant form. When practitioners of Makashi are sparring, their footwork and precision make it look almost as if they are dancing. :) Just so you know for future reference.

  • Yeah, that's the mythological explanation.

In reality, all of the Jedi and Sith used ordinary sword moves from Japanese kenjutsu, German longsword, and European fencing. The only differences in the "forms" and "styles" are in attitude and tactics. The moves are all the same.

  • Not quite so. There is a visible difference in each style of lightsaber combat.

Peter Diamond blended techniques from Kendo and Fencing, not Kenjutsu.

Nick Gillard then added techniques from Escrima to solve the problem that lightsabers had no counter weight.

Each style has both different techniques and different opening stances.

  • Epees and foils for fencing have curved handles, but they are only very slightly curved -- it helps with point control. Those swords are built ONLY for thrusting -- they don't even have a sharp edge.

But that's not how Dooku uses his lightsaber in the movies -- he uses the same wide slashing moves that the other Jedi do, NOT the thrusting fencing style that his sword would be best suited to.

Of course, movie swordfights are entirely different from REAL swordfights.

  • Of course. But for your viewers, as far as why the LIGHTSABER is curved, it is for the Makashi Lightsaber form that was created for Star Wars, which was based on other various sword styles as you said. Thank you for the info by the way.

  • u might as well just private mail me a part list for all the sabers

being as my partner is really fussy about what his saber looks like

he's the only person tht will help me do my fan film so i rli kinda need him...even if he does wana yellow blade in the fan film

dont worry i will mention a thanks to u in the credits :D

if it wasnt for u i wud be spending 40 pounds on saber props from randomsabers or some site

  • Well, I already show you every part, for every saber, and show how it fits together.

All you have to do is write it down.

  • how would u make obiwan's lightsaber from revenge of the sith

  • The same way the Qui-Gonn saber is made.

In fact, my Qui-Gonn saber actually looks more like Obi-Wan's.

  • your sabors are one of the best "hand made" sabors iv seen on the internet. just 1 thing looks a little bit awkward, the big red ON button. Its kinda big and phata sabor has smaller buttons....BUT GREAT VIDEO. *****

  • send me a part list for this lightsaber please?

  • Which lightsaber . . . . ?

  • ok now I'm understand thanks.I making a curved hilt lightsaber a'la Count dooku or asajj ventress, and I know other manner on creation these lightsaber(s) I will show it when I'll ready xD And thanks again for answer

  • Youtube didn't notify me about this movie! HEY! You made this on my birthday! THANK YOU FOR THE MOVIE!

  • yeah it's really good.. but I found a stupid mistake, which difficult to repair. This is a part of dooku lightsaber, exactly it is a first part it's also curved, but less... where i got that part ?

  • Didn't read the comments, did you . . . .

    To repeat myself:

Yes, Dooku's saber has a curved ornament at the front emitter end. My saber is NOT intended as a copy of Dooku's -- just the same sort of curved style. I prefer to make my own designs rather than just copy somebody else's.

Were I to try to copy Dooku's exactly, I'd look for some sort of curved fitting that would screw onto the threaded emitter end, or something I could cut and bend.

  • it looks great! a little "fat" though, the one in the movie wasnt that wide

  • It's not a copy of the one in the movie.

  • 0_o....wow. you are a god, I love the last lightsaber but I think the fins are a little too big. Any who the tutorials are AMAZING! keep them coming!

  • Well of course you can make the fins any size you want. It also looks pretty good without the fins.

  • sweet thnx

  • if it has a flat end and there is no under cuts i have a idea to make a kind of hallow one im pretty sure its gonna work im trying it today i have the qui-gon mold redy

  • dude ur great at this but is their a way 2 make luke skywalkers rotj lightsaber if u can please do thanks i am just finishing a lightsaber

  • It can be made the same way as the Plo Koon style sabers -- you just need to find a narrower tube that you can still fit a 1/2 inch dowel into for a blade, and fit the rest of the saber over it.

  • You can just take scraps and you can make lightsabers,I can make sabers but not as good as you.

  • The trick, I think, is just in having a good "eye" for it. And there's some trial and error involved, just fitting things together to see how they look.

  • is there any way to make one that has a flat edge all around because i dont realy like how the cupling sticks up and dooku's lightsaber has a curve at the top too but is less of a curve and it has a blade thing a t the top too so please post another video

and your other sabers kick ASS

im starting to cast my sabers in full metal and add rubber and paint

  • You need to find a thinner coupling -- mine sticks up less than 1/16 inch and is barely noticeable.

  • The movie props in the prequel trilogy were cast in plastic resin. (The ones in the original trilogy were made from metal camera parts.)

I would think cast metal would be kind of heavy. . . .?

  • i like it

  • You do the best lightsabers of the world. Are you going to make next tutorials?

  • Heck, I already have more lightsabers than General Grievous, and I didn't even have to kill any Jedi to get them.

    ;)

  • LOL! Nice One!

  • Secound comment! nice job!

  • I have to admit this is genoius(I'm not the best speller). You've got a talent for doing this man
