Hey Glenn, I was gonna get the hd500 but a friend of mine wants to snag the hd and said he will sell me his x3 for $200. Can I make it sound this good going into my Marshall tsp 60 head and Marshall cabs? Also I heard the x3 was discontinued so snagging a used one in good shape seems like a no brainer anyway since the hd line is still available
Your Overdrive Patch is BEAST. Its solid for heavy rock rhythm. And then just when I thought it couldn't get any better.. That Lead Patch is AMAZING. Can't wait to burn on it. The clean and the crunch tone are also amazing. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for your videos! I really appreciate you work! I have question on this video. you didn't say how you edited the clean and crunch tones. i would be very thankful if you'll help me with it.)))
Hi. Glenn.. thanks for the vids; very helpful for an old fart like me! Are you using a thumb pick? You've obviously used it a long time. Did it take a long time to get used to playing with it? And do you find you have more expression using it?
@farkinelify Hi there. Yes I use a thumb pick. I have been using one for about 44 years now. (I started very early LOL). anyway. . . Yes, the technique is unique for hard rock & blues guitar. I guess the best advantage is that you're other fingers are free to pluck the strings. I come from a classical and "claw-hammer" Chet Atkins style of picking. My Grandfather taught me this. I moved into rock music I guess in the early 70's and I just kept the thumb pick cos' I was comfortable with it.
Man i love you !!! You're the best, no doubt, i bought my X3 Live 2 weeks ago and didn't know what the F*CK to do or i should say how to do, but now thanks to you i got some decent tones in my X3 live, thanks man! Really appreciate your awsome patches you're sharing !!! =)
@extremevideopro That i ensure you i will, i recorded a awsome solo improvisation with your satriani tone that you shared, i'll put it on youtube tomorrow and really want you to comment that and share your thoughts!
Is there any other unit such as this that allows the simultaneous use of a guitar and a microphone for vocals? - each with separate sounds/effects, which I assume the X3 can do but haven't seen it actually do that. Thanks for the great review.
@noslen1968 yes the new POD HD units can do that but they don't have the mic pre's that the X3 has. The new HD units really weren't designed for that but it can do it.
i have an extremely important question. Is tone 2 always the same whereever you switch? example: if i have it on 20A and go to 25A... is tone 2 supposed to be the same?
@Cl0udyDayz No it sounds like you have tone 2 locked. When you engage tone 2 (by holding down the tone2 button for a few seconds) then look at the bottom of the screen. If you see a "lock" icon, un-lock it.
How do you compare this unit to the Boss GT-10 in its ability to be intuitive and user friendly? The GT-10 seems too deep and seems to entail lots of tweaking where the L6 unit seems more intuitive and friendly. :) How about as far as authentic tones?

@Pinstripedtie lol on this critique. Nice work as always EVP!!! BTW keep on practicing that dynamic/timing thing. And get your bass work less "cardboardy" next time as per Pins suggestion. ;P
Thank you so much for your online programming. These settings are exactly what I need for the band. I just got my X3 and am gigging tomorrow and needed the 4 settings although for me I made one a clean jazz w/ little or no effects and added comp. #2 and #3stayed the same as your #1 and #2. Then I used your lead setting for #4 (D). I had to forgo the overdrive setting but then all I would need to do is go into the lead and tap out the mod and delay. Very cool. Kudos to you and God bless.
Pretty slick these 'all in one' foot pedal processors, but how reliable are they really? I don't know. Every time I get close to plunking down some coin on one I think 'screw it' and just stick with my old school (real) stomp boxes.
@AceOfHeart2012 Yeah for heavy road use they can break for sure. They need to be in cases and treated nice. Something roadies don't always do LOL. I like me real pedals too for on the road use. Foe studio recording though you can't beat these things.
@guitarlarry You use Line6 Gearbox for that. Save all of the tones from one X3Live as a bundle then hook up the other X3Live and load the bundle in that one.
I want to use the X3 live along with my Mesa mark IV amp using the 4 cable method, and bypass all preamp, cab, and mic sims. if i did this is there any way to make patches louder than others? like if i set a patch to be louder will it make my amp louder too?
@ACS1271990 Yes you can make your patches louder by using the patch level. Your amp should be plenty loud enuff'. I used to have one of those and those are very nice amps.
@BogWraithius yeah that dude is right.. but what u can do i s plug it in durect to the sound board... which i think is better to do instaid of using an amp... for this anyway not for foot pedals
Glenn, a huge "thank you" for the demo! It would take me 6 months reading that manual to get half the tone you showed us! I re-watch the vid's and learn something each time. You have a great style also! Thanks again!
hi. liked you video very much. but i've got a question for you. саn i use my distortion pedal with this processor? i mean, can i turn off the dist in this processor and use my pedal instead? thanx
@4511702 depends on what you want to do with them. both are very powerful but if you want something simple to use, the best amplification and some killer effects. the boss gt 10 is for you .... but if your looking variation of utility and the ability to connect several instruments in addition to listening 2 different effects at the same time the pod x3 live is better. that's my opinion, I hope you serve.
I´m thinking about getting me the x3 live but I´m not quite sure. Yes the X3 can achieve those types of tones but you would be better downtuning your guitar rather than using the Morpheus Droptune. I have one of those and the sound is kind of warbley.
Thanks for the hint. I read that the Morpheus Droptune has not the best soundquality in lower tuning (more than 2 steps), but the musical stuff I´m doing combines my normal dropped c tuning and for heavy rythm parts dropped b, so my idea is to use the morpheus to tune down my dropped c guitar. I hope this works better. Have you ever tried this?

Your videos are soooo freakin helpful man. Check out my riffing video. I would love to get feedback/tips from you!
You use a compressor for distortion? I heard its makes the tone sound muffled.. would you recomend using a compressor on a high gain amp instead of a stompbox?
would you reccomend this? or the line 6 m13?? Maybe formaking lots of effects, and U2 type music... i cant chose between the two. dnt know which to get
. I have a line 6 Spider III amp(30-W), and im using a dean dime razorback. Im not exactly sure how to set-up my gear. What im doing now is running a patch cord from the guitar in(on the amp) to the R/mono Live on the X3. Then I just connect my guitar to the guitar in. there are more channels on the actual amp. should these all be turned all the way down? Any help would be appriciated! thanks you
There are 2 ways to do this. You can plug your guitar into the guitar input of the X3 and then out of the X3 Left/Mono out into the front of the amp on the clean channel. or you can use what they call the 4 Cable Method. I have a description on my blog for the 4CM.
Hey, im thinking about getting either the line 6 pod x3 live or a zoom g9.2tt have you had any experience with the zoom? if you have could you tell me witch one you prefer?
very nice sound. Do you think thats sound would be good with pickup Seymour Duncan sh8. Thats pickup has a lot of bas and middle and little high freq. And it has a very hight output signal. thanks for answer

these tones sound like a phase inverted pickup... the high gain needs to be a little more open sounding in the high frequencies

Hello,
is the pod x3 live complete the same thing as the pod x3(the red one) except the ability to use it by feet?
triclops8 2 years ago 2
Yes it is the same except for the pedal board and the more I/O options. Otherwise you can get the same sounds from either unit.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
And your videos really helped me a lot!
Thanks man!

before I got mine i thought it would be more complicated but now, Man this thing is amazing, really easy to drive.
The best fx pedal in the world. In my opinion of course.
07musicman 2 years ago
Cant wait to get mine :) I'm actually going back from all individual pedals to digital fx for this, all those cables piss me off...

line 6 spider 4 ampp
helegaran 2 years ago
HMM, I'd try the M13 with that amp.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
You use a compressor for distortion? I heard its makes the tone sound muffled.. would you recomend using a compressor on a high gain amp instead of a stompbox?
astrosaki 2 years ago
I'm not really using compressor for ditortion. I'm just using it to get more level out of the sound and make it smoother.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
would you reccomend this? or the line 6 m13?? Maybe formaking lots of effects, and U2 type music... i cant chose between the two. dnt know which to get
helegaran 2 years ago
depends on what amp you are using..
extremevideopro 2 years ago
you really did this well...!!!
respect!!..
I will buy this multi-effect board, too!!

Any help would be appriciated! thanks you
HoratiuGuitar 2 years ago
There are 2 ways to do this. You can plug your guitar into the guitar input of the X3 and then out of the X3 Left/Mono out into the front of the amp on the clean channel. or you can use what they call the 4 Cable Method. I have a description on my blog for the 4CM.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
thanks alot, do they have different sounds or are they the same?
HoratiuGuitar 2 years ago
Some amps work better with the 4CM so you should try it to see if it sounds good with your amp.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
I dont think I can, dont you need a power amp and a cab for that type of set-up? there no fx retrun plug ins and the others
HoratiuGuitar 2 years ago
Hey, im thinking about getting either the line 6 pod x3 live or a zoom g9.2tt have you had any experience with the zoom? if you have could you tell me witch one you prefer?
Ollyknkn 2 years ago
sorry mate, never used the zoom units.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
@extremevideopro hey Glen, would this be better than a GT-10 for composing ur own tone and really fiddling with the distortion setting?
....and does this have FX like chorus, flanger, harmonizer and all that, like the BOSS GT-10?
guitarist6494 2 years ago
It has all those effects except harmonizer and whammy.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
very nice sound. Do you think thats sound would be good with pickup Seymour Duncan sh8. Thats pickup has a lot of bas and middle and little high freq. And it has a very hight output signal. thanks for answer
imasterrr 2 years ago
Hmmm, if it's very high output you might experience clipping. The X3 has a -10db pad switch though so you should be OK.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
is better have all pedal separeted
kharlos84 2 years ago
well they only gave me an "open with" option so i opened it with gearbox, but i didnt see ur patches in the program, is there a step im missing?
