  • thumbs up for icheckmovies

  • This can't end well

  • It's amazing to actually see an undoctored image of McKinley. He looks much different from when he's all done up from his pictures overdone by paint. He looks much older too... I guess that's what Civil War veterans look like at this time, though.

  • It's great that they have this recording. I wish there could have been sound. Just think: Everyone in this recording is dead.

  • @ww2footage

uuuuuhh, no Leon Czolgosz wasn't Jewish, he was a Catholic born from Polish immigrants

  • Chief Justice Melville Fuller is the man swearing in McKinley (as he had sworn in Harrison in 1889, Cleveland in 1893, Mckinley in 1897, and swear in Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 and William Howard Taft in 1909..

  • Right there, the beginning of the 20th century. With a record of motion, a new thing.

  • @ultraback29 I was thinking the same thing and look how much it advanced from 1901 to 2011 its just crazy

  • I was there, pffew, great memories.

  • Let me guess, it as a conspiracy. There always has to be some nut that has to turn anything into a stinking conspiracy.

  • What do you suppose would of happened if he had lived?

  • Its a shame to see so much ignorance wriiten on you tube about a remarkable man

  • thats my birthday, along with the inauguration of 25 other presidents

  • @astromike07 "Liberal" "hippie" College(?)" "Jimmy Carter fans"?. Certainly sounds like you have a deep, thoughtful and nuanced world-view after doing your "research". I certainly won't call you any names. Your post alone does the work. Also, please, PLEASE, go look up the word "idiot." It actually has a real definition that eveyrone bungles. For instance, I would never call anyone an idiot, when asswipe would be a much choicer word.. See, I didn't even have to go to "college" to learn it

  • damn right

  • The devil's hexagram, I see.

  • McKinley was a very sexy president

  • This is interesting footage from March 4, 1901. For the record, McKinley was shot September 6, 1901 in Buffalo, NY and died September 14. Lincoln was shot April 14, 1865 in Ford's Theatre in Washington and died April 15. Garfield was shot July 2, 1881 in a Washington train station and died September 19. I recommend visiting the McKinley Memorial and Museum in Canton, OH.

  • Fuck yeah brother!

  • McKinley was shot while receiving visitors at the Pan American Exposition in September 1901. He actually served without a Vice President for nearly half his first term. Garrett Hobart, who was inaugurated with McKinley in 1897, died two years later but McKinley chose not to replace him. So, had McKinley been assassinated in September 1900 instead, the United States would have had to go down to #3 in the line of succession for the first time in history.

  • Actually, I'm not sure the line of succession existed at the time.

It's a creature of the Twentieth Amendment, isn't it?

  • its sucks that we can't hear the actual sound i

  • phoneix91: Sound tracks to accompany motion picture film were still more than 25 years in the future. That's why there's no "actual sound." You'll just have to rely on imagination.

  • poor mckinley. he was shot @ a concert later :[

  • despick93: Sorry, you're wrong, but maybe you can get a consolation prize. McKinley was shot in a receiving line at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, N.Y., Sept. 1901. Suffered for 8 days afterwards until dying from effects of gangrene eating at his wounds.

You must have the President confused with some forgettable rap or hip-hop thug. They're always getting shot at so-called "concerts." Wouldn't be a "concert" without gunfire, yeah?

  • If McKinley had had access to modern medical care, he most likely would have survived. They never got the bullet that went in his abdomen, but after they operated, he appeared to be recovering...but the gangrene was taking over inside...

As for the concert...I guess despick93 was referring to the fact that he was at the Temple of Music when he was shot (and I don't believe Russell Simmons was promoting any of the musical acts there, so the shooting really WAS unexpected).

  • i remember this

  • oh were u there?

  • Yeah he was in line right behind Czolgosz.

  • @mp01juve

If he was there he would have to be at least 111 years old, and only then he would be a newborn baby.

  • I do, too. So does my mother.

  • you remember 1901?

  • John Mccain is that you?

  • I was but a young chap, but I was there, too.

When McKinley said "Don't let them hurt him," I was one of "them". =)

  • BSN. For real.

  • @zachandscottshow so your like 120 yrs old? ahahaah

  • @zachandscottshow *in my Tony Soprano voice* Shigechiyo Izumi over here lol you remember this???

  • assassinized :(

  • "assassinized"? Um, you wanna look that up before posting, yeah?

  • its internet slang buddy. you know what that is right? the internet is a series of tubes...

  • If it's any consolation, Leon Czolgosz was electrocized in the chair in October 1901. ;)

  • No, he was electrocuted.

Electrocized sounds like some sort of calisthenics.

  • Oh I know... I was just replying (with sarcasm) to Chubachus who said McKinley was "assassinized". If he was assassinized, Czolgosz must have been "electrocized" in the chair...

Being electrocized sounds only slightly less fatal than electrocution.

  • McKinley :)
