This move can work but there is a problem with it. When but in the sub the person on back tends to let go of everything and lean to the side that the sub is on to releave the pressure then they can underhook the arm that is on their leg, throw their leg over the head and get an armbar. Trust me I've done it.
I used this move when someone put legs in on me when wrestling. This was in High School in the '70's. It's old, it's known - but Piet put in on Youtube. Good for him.
@Submissions101 gloves are not used in real fights therefore that move wont last very long, tuck in neck, uppercut punch to face(hit neck if possible), if his head is behind you, headbut him
@Submissions101 yeah this move works if your playing with someone, but then you can tell them you can punch them their and this move is worthless so they will realise they were just able to hold it because you were not hitting them/playing with them
@ec0n1n0thuman just scoot yourself down as far as you can so theyre high up on your back. If you do it right theyll be at a really bad angle to choke you because your head will by down by their diaphram or therabouts. After this they will probably try and abort to another position. Your instructor should be able to help you nail down the particulars.
@oreme89 Catch Wrestling or Catch as Catch Can. Its a great martial art style and really is a nice blend to Jiu Jitsu just as Judo, Sambo or Shoot are.
@Submissions101 BJJ is a derivative of kosen judo so saying judo is a great addition to BJJ is a bit like saying kyokushin is a great addition to karate.
@chushinryoku I sort of agree but i think BJJ has clearly developed itself into a completely new sport. The elements similar throughout all grappling sports makes it possible to link them all and it's quite easy to see how they all benefit each other.
It seems a bit silly to say Judo can't help BJJ and tbh i don't really know what you were trying to get at with that.
Not every technique works for everyone or against every opponent. This is just an option. It can be done with one hand while the other still serves to protect the neck. And if you can not get them to tap they may be forced to attempt something else. They may even take the mount and in the process open the door for you to transition into another escape.
@triton2003 I was suggesting it was reversed initially to make your technique more practical. Which is fine, it makes sense to prey on other's mistakes. I probably would've mentioned that our opponent put the wrong hand on top so we're going to take advantage of it.
@JiuDoRick This whole youtube conversation and video editing is new to us. Please be patient. We are doing our best to provide you guys with a service. I am still trying to get comfortable with talking to a camera. My students that are volunteering to do the video find this as a new thing to them too. Some of them would much rather compete than do a video. lol
@bobbysaysyo hes doing it slow so you can learn but in a real match youre gonna do it much faster. and you can take on a choke if not positioned right for a alot longer then a calf crush
@guthro123 Totally. I see this lots on comments. There will always be people on you tube that will discount what they see because it doesn't fall into their schema or train of thought. Open minds create possibilities. I've see every type of comment from "flying arm bars will never work" to "its impossible to submit someone from inside their guard".
@Submissions101 I think that that is just how they see it for them. I too think a flying armbar will never work but that is for me at this point in my life because I am only a white belt, I may have blue in less that another year. Anyways to me and maybe to some others I see flying arm bars as useless to me because I have not mastered all basic submissions yet.
@guthro123 Not true at all, if you are in a position that the person can easily choke you in, you need to protect your neck. Obviously if someone is in your guard, you don't need to. But like in the mount, you always need your hands up, and that is why you learn to keep at least one hand up by your neck when you elbow escape. Not a hard concept to grasp.
@bobbysaysyo Tell that to the thousands of Catch guys who do this. By shrugging down and tucking the chin, this submission comes on super fast and is super painful. Its actually a pretty cool technique from a typically bad position. I've seen tons of guys say moves are BS only to have them done on them and opening their eyes. Erik Pulson, Josh Barnett, Rickson, Pedro Sauer and a host of other guys do stuff like this. And they are legit as they come.
@Juijitsu9 watch?v=TVNvxh0WXVs at 16 seconds of BILLY ROBINSON, one of the god fathers of catch and a mentor to Josh who has taught stuff like this at seminars (learned from Billy or Erik). I use this video as an example that these moves are whimsical or made up on the spot and actually cross grappling boundaries. If you don't like the move, fine. Don't use it. That's cool. All videos on You Tube are meant to give ideas on options. It may not fit into your game but will for others.
why wouldnt the guy trying to catch in rnc cross his legs around you and sprawl your body ?

So which part of the body are we attacking here? are we attacking the calf by drilling the elbow into it or are we actually attacking the ankle?

Is this legal in regular BJJ competition? And if so, is it allowed at each belt level?
Scipio0 1 month ago
@Scipio0 No this is only allowed at brown and black at IBJJF
triton2003 1 month ago
This move is really a 'shin-lock' not a calf-crusher. It should be applied on the shin bone, not on the calf.
TheAryoBarzan87 1 month ago
Is allowed for blue belt players??

@AlKetbi55 doubtful. If i remember correctly under ibjjf blue belt may only do straight ankle locks.

@mirrorseye as a matter of fact, this is a very common defense against a rear mount. Sinking down and shrugging is a starting point.
