  • Guy Send Me Here!

  • I remember this and I had the lp burned it like crazy!!!

  • I remember watching this when it first aired thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star".

  • Classic MADONNA,i

was 21 in 1984 and it was a great time for music videos and MADONNA!

  • shes hot as hell here

  • Very nostalgic! A SUPERSTAR in the making. Love it!

  • u go MADONNA....LOVE YAAAA GIRL!!!!!!!!!!

  • no one can dance like her

  • @swilda123 sooo true sooo true!!!

  • i was 14 when i saw this on tv

  • OMG! I just realized by watching this video that most of my dance moves were created by her!

  • Respect

  • Lip syncing at its worse

  • I would love to talk to someone who was at American Bandstand back in 1984 and they saw her live their, look me up on Facebook Amanda Staley

  • good singer but man the lip syncing is brutal

  • @JackHaynes30 I often think that myself, that Rob and Fabrice got way too much of a bum steer. LOTS of artists lip-synced in the 1980s and 90s, and many still do when they do dance performances. Even Cameo lip-synced their entire concerts in 1986. Milli Vanilli was 100% fabricated, but other artists are 40% to 50% fabricated. Face it, it's really all about what rakes in the millions.

  • @JackHaynes30 This was 84 what do you expect?

  • FIERCE!

  • When this came out, nobody (except Michael Jackson maybe) rocked the stage with such energy. In 1983 she set the pace for future female dance and pop singers. MADONNA ALWAYS RULES!!!!!!!

  • @FrankR1981 micheal jackson maybe?

  • @FrankR1981 your so right & very few people understand that today. Her success was far more than a lucky star

  • this video is a fantastic, tks I remember...tks Madona

  • one of her first Televison appearances on her quest "to Rule the World".

  • THE ICON!

  • y do these shows have most artists just sing to their track? i hate that even tina turner lip synced on here

  • This song was being played by club DJs during the summer of 83, apparently before it was officially released.

  • Around this time Madonna was clueless that she would eventually become one of the wealthiest women in the pop music industry. What is she...a multi-millionaire? Her dancing here is somewhat prosaic compared to what she would eventually display to viewers.

  • American Bandstand and Soul Train RULED back in the day!!! YEAH!!!! And so did MADONNA!!!!

  • THE QUEEN!!!

  • why did you cut off the interview at the end?

  • Seems weird that she would sing Holiday in 1984. Wasn't this the year Like a Virgin came out? And surely Borderline and Lucky Star had already been all over the radio by now. Hmm.

  • @misterashley Holiday peaked at #16 on the Hot 100 at the end of January 1984 (I think it actually entered the chart in October 1983), so it was actually a hit right at the time of this broadcast. Madonna had four top 20 hits that year (Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star, and Like A Virgin, in that order).

  • @Gavin2002 Thanks! That's what I get for trusting memory alone.

  • @misterashley,

This is January 1984. Borderline wasn't released until February and peaked in late Spring and early Summer. Lucky Star wasn't released until after Borderline. And Like A Virgin wasn't released as a single until about October of 1984. Holiday was released in September/October 1983, but didn't peak until early 1984, so Holiday was at the peak of its popularity during this performance.

  • @Applextr ...love your chronological development of Madonna's first album. I have the vinyl, and I keep it as treasure :)

  • Lord was I born at the right time! I wasn't even 12 yet when this was out, but I remember this like it was yesterday...But I couldn't tell you what I did yesterday lol! Shows like this will always remain sharp in my memory...Cause those were the days!!

  • "Rule The World."

  • Madonna WAS 1984!! lol

  • @Jako32 RIGHT?! :-D

  • FIERCE!!! The one and only Madonna!!!

  • it's cut out right when she makes her FAMOUS proclamation...that her wish for the new year is to "RULE THE WORLD!"

  • @mlvc82 Yea... and look at her now... HOW MANY IDIOTS THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS "JUST ANOTHER SINGER?!" HMMM....?? She kicked ass. <3
