@JackHaynes30 I often think that myself, that Rob and Fabrice got way too much of a bum steer. LOTS of artists lip-synced in the 1980s and 90s, and many still do when they do dance performances. Even Cameo lip-synced their entire concerts in 1986. Milli Vanilli was 100% fabricated, but other artists are 40% to 50% fabricated. Face it, it's really all about what rakes in the millions.
When this came out, nobody (except Michael Jackson maybe) rocked the stage with such energy. In 1983 she set the pace for future female dance and pop singers. MADONNA ALWAYS RULES!!!!!!!
Around this time Madonna was clueless that she would eventually become one of the wealthiest women in the pop music industry. What is she...a multi-millionaire? Her dancing here is somewhat prosaic compared to what she would eventually display to viewers.
Seems weird that she would sing Holiday in 1984. Wasn't this the year Like a Virgin came out? And surely Borderline and Lucky Star had already been all over the radio by now. Hmm.
@misterashley Holiday peaked at #16 on the Hot 100 at the end of January 1984 (I think it actually entered the chart in October 1983), so it was actually a hit right at the time of this broadcast. Madonna had four top 20 hits that year (Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star, and Like A Virgin, in that order).
This is January 1984. Borderline wasn't released until February and peaked in late Spring and early Summer. Lucky Star wasn't released until after Borderline. And Like A Virgin wasn't released as a single until about October of 1984. Holiday was released in September/October 1983, but didn't peak until early 1984, so Holiday was at the peak of its popularity during this performance.
Lord was I born at the right time! I wasn't even 12 yet when this was out, but I remember this like it was yesterday...But I couldn't tell you what I did yesterday lol! Shows like this will always remain sharp in my memory...Cause those were the days!!
This is not 1984. It is 1983.

This song was being played by club DJs during the summer of 83, apparently before it was officially released.
