Driving Rig in the snow or any storm for that matter is and can be a nightmare. The idiots that we "share" the highways with are the ones that make it terrible and unsafe.
Seen somewhere on here about the hardest part about truckin..well,I can describe that in 2 words..Weather & Idoits...& I been off the road retired for 5 years....I know its a lot worse now..back in the 70's when I started it was fantastic..but Merle said it write in the song..it takes a special breed....
I have been here & done this..looks like the hood of the Petes I drove...I was out there 25 years & still leaned something every day...you done a great job here in this mess...sure is scarry for anyone who hits whiteout..just like runnin into a blanket of fog..never forget the one out on I-5 goin up north in Ca...I hit that so fast & couldn't even see that hood oranment...thats what really shakes ya up..I really miss my truckin days, but its not like that out there anymore..
i'll never understand why people don't get the concept of SLOWING down when there is snow on the road, that is the best thing you can do to keep yourself safe in wintery conditions, slow down and increase the amount of space between you and the car ahead of you, and avoid unnecessary lane changes. i swear to god, up here in Chicago, after the first snowfall of the year, people turn into the biggest morons crashing and spinning out every 2 minutes. respect the weather
I really like these series. I've only been a CDL driver for a year and feel I have seen a lot on the road already, but know I am still learning everyday.
@BCSMike right on michael.the day you think you've learned it all or know it all,is the day you become over confident and a danger to yourself and those around you.you should always be alert for anything to happen.heck i've been truckin goin on 17 years and i'm still learnin and still get nervous sometimes on certain mountains and such.may you have many years ahead of ya michael,Happy trails
@BCSMike I wish I was already on the road but I can't find a single company who will give me a shot a driving. I just got my CDL in december and I have no experience.
@godblessasiangirls I know how you feel. I had the same problem back in the day. I finally found a job as a swamper with a company that ran winch and hi-up trucks. Thats when the learning and experiance came. I got the driving experiance when the drivers thought it was a good time to let me drive. I learned tonnes from watching them. I always thought about them when I bought my truck and drove for many years after. The learning never stops.
@Folkboat11 The only things I know are things I have already learned. But I don't know everything and I probably will never learn everything. I can only learn as much as I can until the day I die. I'm still keeping my head up and I'm sure someone will give me a shot, it's just a matter of when. All I want is to live out on the road and make money as an owner operator someday. Since I'm single, never married, and no kids.
How do you find that peterbilt in the snow? I drive a 03 379 and dont like it at all. I find it very light in the front end. I dont know if it is just me
thats looks like some nasty weather to be truckin in especially there at the end when that truck just disappeared. thats some drivin there! Great Video!
Now get some actual weight behind you and add some mountain hills then make it seem like a nightmare.

We may not drive in such conditions cause we drive ADR/HAZMAT UN1203.
The Netherlands has a law we may not drive when there is snow on the road.
IF you do you risk a fine of over 1200 euro´s .....
Last year we stood still for nearly 3 days .... and I hated it .. rather be on the road working. But the high fine keeps you from going off the yard.
never had any problems when I drove none-hazmat just keep you brain working and know what you are doing.
