Yes - this is another way to learn and it gives a number reference point for for beats instead of e's and a's. It makes it eaiser to learn then you can count in 4/4 the 16ths after.
why is it important to count in 2/4 or cut time? Why not just keep it in 4/4? I have never understood why it is complicated in this way? Its even more difficult to write out in 2/4. Could you explain this? Ive learn the claves in 4/4 and when I get books with it in 2/2 it forces me to relearn what I already know in another time signature. Why is there a tradition of explaining this clave in 2/4 it does not seem efficient.
Also, on charts cut-time is easier to read. You have the half note as the down so with all the upbeats or off beats you won't have double flags in the charts unless noted. It makes the notation cleaner. -rudy
