France and Britain were already fighting the war, they declared war on Germany in 1938 when Hitler invaded Poland. People think WW2 started in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked but in reality WW2 in 1938.

Nothing like the horrors of war to keep the Glory hounds at bay . The best war movies I have seen are Saving Private Ryan , Enemies at the Gate , Band Of Brothers and We Were Soldiers . And all of them convey just how ugly war really is . I salute all that had to experience this first hand . Especially the collateral in the center of this. Civilians should never have to experience such violence , just because a government goes insane .

Vital supplies were sent overseas via unarmed transports in U - Boat infested waters . Countless ships were sunk and many lives lost BEFORE operation Torch. Which helped to take some of the direct pressure England was experiencing . Also don't forget Russia. without them Hitler would have had a very large force for England to contend with . It was an Allied Effort .

Stalingrad was the longest campaign of the entire war . Just because he wanted the damn city . If I recall correctly more people died in that campaign than all the deaths of all the rest of the allies combined . The Russians were still putting out tanks in that city until late in the campaign.

Upon hearing this Hitler was incensed...

Germany also invaded Greece in april 1941 to help the Italians who were floundering and had failed to make sufficient progress in their earlier campaign there.

Spielberg ripped kubrick off in camera angles from his previous war films.This has got bad acting(not platoon casualties of war bad acting)but its probably mainly from the dialouge.So much moralizing,and preaching.And the ending is one of the dumbest ever,looks like a bad rip off of the dirty dozen.I think spielberg just wanted another excuse to show ''cool''ways of people dying.Full metal jacket is more original,unpredictible and psychologically effective.This is essentially just war porn.

Its about the horrors of war.Speilberg ripped everyone who every tryed to make a war movie a new asshole with his brilliance and vision for this movie. This is the "only" war movie were people where shaking and crying and screaming and asking if that was actually war footage. Platoon aint got shit on this movie. First 30 minutes conquers anything any director has done in the past

I was talking about the reactions audience members had from this film when it came out in theaters. I can tell by your ignorance that you never got to see this in the theaters and understand what im talking about. People had know idea that the movie was going to be graphic and violent especailly the first 30 mins. People where crying there eyes out and visibly shaken.

@zeropluszeroiszero Saving private ryan isn't bad,not great certainly.it's got some great moments.But its basically a higher budgeted dirty dozen or kelly's heroes rip off.It's very watchable,despite the usual spielberg cheese.Spielberg like stone,doesn't respect his audience intelligence,so he tries to manipulate EVERY emotion.There is just no subtlety in his films that make them truly great for me.Hell,the suspense of jaws would be ruined if spielberg had his way.

@zeropluszeroiszero Im giving him credit,saving private ryan has truly great moments.No doubt the opening 30 minutes contains most of these.Mellish's death is far more powerfully disturbing than anything in the first 30 minutes though.And like i said, its very watchable.Spielberg is a visually talented director,but im not too big on his storytelling though.They all seem to be so simple or just completely far fetched.They work basically superficially,with no future analysis needed.Which i like

I did want to add you as a friend so when can have an adult conversation about omaha beach. I myself still to this day is doing research reading books etc etc about the events that took place on that day. But i check your page out and it seems like you dont have one.

@krzymajik Well last year when I was in his class, no one (not even teachers) could access youtube, but thats all changed this year. I agree it isn't very good for a teacher to rely on youtube to teach a bunch of kids but that what happens when school budgets are cut and you can't afford text books etc.

@mikecwaz The U.S tried to remain neutral because of how much damage WW1 caused, the U.S entered WW2 after Pearl Harbor was attacked, almost immediately. France and Britain were already fighting the war, they declared war on Germany in 1938 when Hitler invaded Poland. People think WW2 started in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked but in reality WW2 in 1938.

@marinesdomantate You're thinking of WW1 mate; the sinking of the Luisitiana drove the US into WW1. It was Hitler's declaration of war against the USA that drove the US into WW2 in Europe, while Pearl Habour was the reason America fought in the East.

Nothing like the horrors of war to keep the Glory hounds at bay . The best war movies I have seen are Saving Private Ryan , Enemies at the Gate , Band Of Brothers and We Were Soldiers . And all of them convey just how ugly war really is . I salute all that had to experience this first hand . Especially the collateral in the center of this. Civilians should never have to experience such violence , just because a government goes insane .

@Veternik94 Like the Idea or not Without the US England would have been in a much larger world of hurt than what it sustained . Vital supplies were sent overseas via unarmed transports in U - Boat infested waters . Countless ships were sunk and many lives lost BEFORE operation Torch. Which helped to take some of the direct pressure England was experiencing . Also don't forget Russia. without them Hitler would have had a very large force for England to contend with . It was an Allied Effort .

@kbdevo1962 Yeh but hitler made a lot of mistakes.Btw Serbia saved russia,hitler planed to attack russia at the end of winter and thats when serbia declared war and he stoped operation barbarosa to invade serbia.That's why the operation was delayed and he had to attack before winter and got caught in the winter.But The americans could've lost the battle for normandy if hitler let Romel change the position of the panzer forces,as i said he made a lot of mistakes,but yes in the end we won.

@Veternik94 Good point but I doubt that Rommel would have been able to hide his tanks well enough to prevent them from being annihilated by Us and English bombers once spotted . There WAS a rather large contingent of Panzers that got caught on a road near The beaches . The Allies sent enough bombers to turn that road into a moonscape. I seen pictures of the aftermath on the history channel . Tigers were reduced to unrecognizable scrap metal . And Yes Hitler made a Lot of mistakes . CONT

@Veternik94 One of the larger mistakes was . The lack of trust with Rommel , The man was brilliant and an undisputed Creme de la creme when it comes to tank commanders . Leaving him to hang in Africa was Actually one of the first signs of more than a little trouble at home . Hitler made more mistakes that i know nothing about. I have not really studied the war that much . But The Largest mistake he made was attacking Russia. If he had waited until AFTER taking England . Cont .

@Veternik94 Which would have been Operation Sealion . Something that very well might have happened if he had not opened up that front with Russia . Hitler had tunnel vision when he got pissed off . Stalingrad was the longest campaign of the entire war . Just because he wanted the damn city . If I recall correctly more people died in that campaign than all the deaths of all the rest of the allies combined . The Russians were still putting out tanks in that city until late in the campaign.

But basically what happened was that Germany had made agreements with Hungary, Romania & Bulgaria and signed the Tripartite Pact. This allied these three nations to Germany. Hitler then wanted Yugoslavia to join the pact & finally under immense pressure they succumbed. However Yugoslavia was very anti-Axis & coup d'état was launched ousting the Regent, Prince Paul. Upon hearing this Hitler was incensed...

@Veternik94 ... and he ordered an invasion of Yugoslavia. He vowed to destroy Yugoslavia militarily before even hearing the new governments demands. He took the coup as a personal insult. Hence on 6 April 1941 Germany invaded and won a decisive victory within weeks. And it wasn't only the invasion of Yugoslavia that delayed Barbarossa. Germany also invaded Greece in april 1941 to help the Italians who were floundering and had failed to make sufficient progress in their earlier campaign there.
