I agree that being proactive is crucial to success. Let there be some scope for criticism too. You can achieve a lot by being proactive. However, if you try to control events beyond your control, that is sabotage. It is known as perfectionism and perfectionism is harmful to success. For some events, we cannot do anything and they are beyond our control.
There are disadvantages of high internal locus of control:
THIS MAN IS THE REAL DEAL.! HIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT. AND ALTHOUGH I LIKE TONY ROBBINS BOOK AS WELL, I THINK STEPHEN COVEY'S BOOK IS MORE ORGANIZIED AND PRINCIPAL ORIENTED.. i LIKE HIS BOOK BETTER THAN TONY ROBBINS.
Covey's Seven Habits are a simple yet powerful action plan to embark on a true journey of personal growth and performance improvement. As said in the video, the prerogative we all have to choose our responses encloses one of the key factors for achieving success and wellness. Also, our capacity to change our past (meaning the way we look at it), is what allows us to change our future.
It is hard to find a secure answer to success in my opinion. I like watching these videos to determine how I can apply some of these useful psychological information that can help me in my own ventures. Looking at how others have advanced can help me strive for my own success.
I lost my father at the age of 15, and as a result, my life went into a tailspin. This man, more than any other, has changed my life. Thank you Dr. Covey for making a difference in the lives of millions!
The praises of many gurus tend to fade in time but 7 Habits just keep on being relevant from decade to decade. Well conducted interview with whom we can call the greatest productivity expert in the World.
Do I really have a choice? When I respond or choose; who leads me to the choice I make? Is it I; is it my past - what i was taught, what experiences I had since by birth? What choice did I have for that teaching and life experiences?
I don't know or I have a feeling that I had no choice from the beginning.
@hareeshgnair listen to Eckhart Tolle. I personally think its both - we have free will to choose but are also conditioned by our past on a subconscious level.
LeahPerfectLife : I firmly agree. Listen carefully to the video. Its IMPACT IS INDEED ALL REALISTICALLY TRUE TO WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR LIVES now and the FUTURE.
what really matters is if we try our hardest. because that's the only thing we can control. Life circumstances, chance, talent, luck which all contribute to success are all out of our control.
i didnt understand the point...is it about the how we respond to whatever happens to us? if yes...what should be our response?and how does our response to past events influence our current issues? sorry if my question was dumb...

Took me a week to read this book and within this past week, my relationship has changed significantly towards my husband. Although I doubt he will read it, I know how to take responsibility and listen fully. Mr. Covey has "it". I just got done reading the book today and am going to turn around and read it in its entirety all over again. I bought a beautiful journal to write notes, ideas down while I really pick this book to pieces. I'm addicted!
Very empowering video. What happens in our environment good or bad only affects us as long as we let it. We have the GREAT POWER TO MAKE A DECISION, to chose what we want to do.
I've been living my life accoring to Dr Coveys principles. My life gets better every day. I use this book as a resource for teaching in secondary school. Thank you DR!!!!!!!!!
peace be upon you all,it's not about how to get succesful in life,it's about giving, and then I don't mean giving to mr covey, giving of yourself to others:)
The key word of this program is "reivent yourself" and develop the tools of emotional inteligence for people to accomplish all the goals by adquiring the habits. Kuddos on Cowey. This book far exceed my expectations...
Steven's work is so special, cause it is simple and can practice it in our everyday lifes.! Litle by little we can develope the space he mentioned. I am working on it. I strongly believe It is a must to everyone.
Covey's point about the space between stimulus and response is brilliant, but I believe there's more to it than that. For example, if my stimulus tells me I'm angry, but I decide to respond with a smile, that's great, but it's disingenuous.
I've worked on understanding WHY I feel a particular stimulus, otherwise I'm not addressing the real me. "Laughin' on the outside, cryin' on the inside" doesn't work!
i think at the start of a journey to reinvent ones self there is a period of difficult struggle... very difficult.. i think a lot of ppl (includin myself) get stuck here and then fall back to position 1. I think we all need to just put in all th effort to get past this stage. Just think "what can I do to make this goal/plan work, what can I do as an extra? just to help it work?"
then JUST DIVE INTO IT.. do what your suppose to not what you feel like doing.
After reading Covey's book I became a lot more focused and changed my life from being a full time retail worker to a university student on the Deans merit list. His work is that powerful. Everyone should read his book
Meeting Stephen Covey is one of my life goals. I think just to see if how I feel in meeting him is as powerful as when I listen to him or read him books. What do you guy's think? is it real or is it a book selling program? I think it's real but I'd like to hear what other people think for sure. Hi from Canada bye the bye!
The evolution of the three basic habits have you manage yourself and is the best way to deal with dependancy of others. The next three habits allow yourself to explore your abilities as a leader and effective parent. The final habit allows you to leverage the best in those around you.
My company sent a few of us to a four day training this week in the 7 habits of effective people signature program. I must say this program is the best training I have ever been to.
Sure we all know things like 'change must come from within before you can change others' but this program is about how to do it and hold yourself accountable. Not how to think about it.
What amazes me is that there are only 64,334 views on this video and yet you put something of a lesser value up on you tube and it sky rockets, ie...charlie the horse? I mean what is that?
