I also think he is saying he is happy because because he doesn't know what it is? Maybe, not sure. Also, you can't grasp his attack, meaning, you simply can't understand what it is. Notice sometimes it says, Mortal Damage.

I had a little fun with the viper during the 1st part. (I had high levels so I was able to last for the poison to completely delete Giygas health power oin the first stage battle)

This game is fun, but is really REALLY creepy... This tottaly freaks me out, because when he says " It hurts... It hurts..." people say it's rape or murder. Quite creepy if you ask me :P

Actually i think you all got it wrong. If you remember in the game, ness and his pals get in that creaton of mr.saturs to go back into the past to defeat Giygas. So my guess is that this Giygas is the previous form of the giygas from Earthbound Zero, either that, or before he has begun the 2nd invasion like the pervious guy mentioned, while he gotten rid of all his emotions, thus leaving him as that red blob of evil, before he could manifest himself into something more physical i guess.

However, he is defeated by the melodies of his human mother (Ninten's grandmother) and becomes emotionally distraught. He eventually launches a second assault, but this time, he removes those emotions from him, becoming that red, insane swirling thing that you see.
I dunno the full story as I haven't really got the grip on Giygas yet but many people have different theories on what he is, but some people think that he isn't actually evil at all and that Pokey manipulates you into thinking he's evil so you'll try and kill Giygas, and then Giygas will destroy you simply out of self defence, even though Giygas really just wants to be friends, Pokey is also supposedly manipulating Giygas in order to use his powers too. That's the main theory though I think...
Giygas is an alien raised by aducted parents from Earth. After the male sends information about his race's PSI powers to Earth, Giygas is forced to prepare for the invasion. He fails in the first game. In this game, he has gained such evil power that he no longer has any shape or form, he is just a mass of evil power. So what Giygas actually is is originally your standard, i suppose, alien humanoid, but by the time of this game he is just a mass of uncontrollable evil power.
Can you see that the shape of giygas resembles a human baby is the womb? Pause around at the bit after the Mr.staturns help and you can see all the babies! FREAKY!
I remember this as a kid - I knew I was close to this battle. It was night - everyone else was asleep but it was so hot in my room and I couldn't get to sleep. I grabbed some chocolate and water and I played and played and reached reached up to giygas - it started raining outside. It grew louder. Then thunder came - all while trying to beat him. My hands started to tremble. I couldn't grab anything but the controller as I knew It was the only way to get rid of this beast. Then the power went out

The Story: Basically, the creator of this game saw a scene in a movie that scarred him for life and it gave him nightmares. So it gave him the idea of Giygas.
The Story of The Game: This story is similar to the real story, basically Giygas is Ness's nightmare, which i think creates giygas. So basically your fighting a imagination gonw wrong. Which means you're fighting a dream but whatever happens to you is what happens to you in real life. Your not in a dream though. (freddie krueger, anyone?)

It may be an easy boss, but Giygas was always intimidating to me. An entity so evil, its on overload. So powerful, you have to travel to the past to fight it in an earlier, 'weaker' stage (which even then, is this powerful). Formless and cannot be attacked. You cant even fight him, you have to pray for your life. That, and all the weird talk from Giygas.
plus you get to do it all trapped in his dimension, where the only non-evil in existence, is your party. The situation is so bleak.
that would explain why the game is called mother now wouldnt it? actually im worng its called mother because of the environmental theme behind the game. its a pretty chill fun game just the creepy final boss...

I agree. After all that damn leveling up, it would have been nice to have a fight that really pushed my characters to the limit. But still, it was a neat idea for the final battle. Maybe they could have thrown the whole praying thing in AFTER an epic battle?? lol.
Yeah, it's kind of a shame that all the final battles in the Mother series are basicly just easy plot-fights. Porky in M3 wasn't quite that, but he was still so easy that it almost seemed like it.
The most basic, but scariest part of the battle. This is where Jeff becomes almost completely useless, so just have him defend and use healing items throughout the rest of the battle. Have Paula pray nine times and you win. Be sure that you have items that recover your PP, you still need it to be up! Yet again, Giygas is weak to brainshock, so if he goes back to normal, have Poo use brainshcok on him. Poo pretty much joins Ness in healing. Poo's very helpful with his Omega Healing, but he needs-
Now, be sure that Poo still has enough PP for 4 PSI Brainshocks. This will be somewhat helpful, but you should always take what you got. Now, THIS is when those Night Pendents and Sea Pendent or Star Pendent start kicking in (I used the Sea Pendent for Paula). This will ensure that PSI Flash will only have an affect on Poo, which is A LOT better than all of them getting an abnormal status or just dying. Be sure that Ness still has at least half of his PP. If not, use something to boost it up!

To be honest in my mind Giygas is only the second scariest enemy from the SNES era.
The one that scared me the absolute most was The Thing In The Dark from Earthworm Jim 1.
Look for a playthrough of the "Who Turned Out The Lights?" level. You'll see what I mean.

I remember this as a kid - I knew I was close to this battle. It was night - everyone else was asleep but it was so hot in my room and I couldn't get to sleep. I grabbed some chocolate and water and I played and played and reached reached up to giygas - it started raining outside. It grew louder. Then thunder came - all while trying to beat him. My hands started to tremble. I couldn't grab anything but the controller as I knew It was the only way to get rid of this beast. Then the power went out

lol take it easy ^^ he saw a "rape scene" but i saw that scene it was just a really non-explicit murder scene (strangling), it was way traumathic for the creator cuz he was just 6 years old when he saw it at night :P he said in an interview : "I wanted to make ppl feel what I felt watching that movie"

The Story: Basically, the creator of this game saw a scene in a movie that scarred him for life and it gave him nightmares. So it gave him the idea of Giygas.
The Story of The Game: This story is similar to the real story, basically Giygas is Ness's nightmare, which i think creates giygas. So basically your fighting a imagination gonw wrong. Which means you're fighting a dream but whatever happens to you is what happens to you in real life. Your not in a dream though. (freddie krueger, anyone?)

It may be an easy boss, but Giygas was always intimidating to me. An entity so evil, its on overload. So powerful, you have to travel to the past to fight it in an earlier, 'weaker' stage (which even then, is this powerful). Formless and cannot be attacked. You cant even fight him, you have to pray for your life. That, and all the weird talk from Giygas.
plus you get to do it all trapped in his dimension, where the only non-evil in existence, is your party. The situation is so bleak.

I agree. After all that damn leveling up, it would have been nice to have a fight that really pushed my characters to the limit. But still, it was a neat idea for the final battle. Maybe they could have thrown the whole praying thing in AFTER an epic battle?? lol.

Yeah, it's kind of a shame that all the final battles in the Mother series are basicly just easy plot-fights. Porky in M3 wasn't quite that, but he was still so easy that it almost seemed like it.

*Edit* All enemies go back to normal when hit, so ONLY use Poo's brainshock on Giygas during the third phase.

The most basic, but scariest part of the battle. This is where Jeff becomes almost completely useless, so just have him defend and use healing items throughout the rest of the battle. Have Paula pray nine times and you win. Be sure that you have items that recover your PP, you still need it to be up! Yet again, Giygas is weak to brainshock, so if he goes back to normal, have Poo use brainshcok on him. Poo pretty much joins Ness in healing. Poo's very helpful with his Omega Healing, but he needs-

Now, be sure that Poo still has enough PP for 4 PSI Brainshocks. This will be somewhat helpful, but you should always take what you got. Now, THIS is when those Night Pendents and Sea Pendent or Star Pendent start kicking in (I used the Sea Pendent for Paula). This will ensure that PSI Flash will only have an affect on Poo, which is A LOT better than all of them getting an abnormal status or just dying. Be sure that Ness still has at least half of his PP. If not, use something to boost it up!
