Im thinkin about getting dreads. I'm caucasian, my hair is pretty thick and its not extremely curly but its still pretty curly in some spots. I wanna get dreads but Im worried about how neglect dreads will look when I first start getting them before they really dread. @FamiliarBow If you want faster results maybe you should try back combing your hair. I heard that it works best with looser hair textures. On shawnta715 channel she demonstrates how to use the back combing method.

@blabla8762 Neglect dreads just form from not brushing the hair. I'm a few months into negect dreads myself. 1) Throw out your hair brush 2) Wash your hair often= 3-4 times a week with either a mixture of baking soda and water or some Dr. Bronners magic soap (I wash with Dr. Bronners and love it, I do baking soda 2-3 times a month. 3) Ignore the hair for a long time until it begins bunching/separating then just make sure to separate the sections so they don't grow together. Never ever use wax

@blabla8762 Oh and also, dreads love essential oils, I have a spray bottle with water and a few essential oils (about 3-5 drops of each and use it daily). Another tip, 2 hours before washing, spray your hair with a spray bottle of natural sea salt and water (it mimics swimming in the sea, which is amazing for forming dreads) make sure to wash it out thoroughly though it can dry the scalp a little too much. Or even better go for a swim at the beach every now and then if there is one close

If you're not a fan of the neglect look, you can twist and rip the hair into shape, I did a few of them at the start and they look pretty cool, check out TheAnnaAprilla she has a highly recommended vid for T&R dreads. Her vid should be at the side --->

@Pomavillas93 it depends. i had no pain but sometimes dreads can pull your hair. if that does happen just give it time and it will pass. a dread can only form if there is plenty of hair to tangle. so in theory when your dreads gets close to your scalp it cant keep forming because the hair is not long enough.

damn dude, you havent gotten any real progress for being 2 years deep, you should be able to palm roll it by 2 years easily without pulling them apart and it looks to me like if you did you would ruin what little you have. Ive had dreads for 2 years now and id have to say that wearing a dread cap 24/7 is the best way to lock, mine looked like yours probably 6 months in but much shorter.

This is not dreadlocks, its just rough hair, your hair is too soft, silky and straight so you can not grow dreads even if you neglect. you need to get a professional to dread your hair for you because its only people with curly or nappy hair that can grow dreads by the neglect method.
