  • and at 2:12 i became hooked on mayer music

  • That fuzz is quality!

  • Best solo ever!!!!

  • 100,253 views... pretty sure at least 1,739 are from me. Can't get enough of that intro.

  • @hubbalc its born without bones if you picked that up

  • @yucky1336 lol, I did catch that actually, just love how he integrated the whole thing!

  • @yucky1336 OH SHIZZ THATS RIGHT... OHHH MYYYYY GAWD

  • what the fuck is he doing through the first 30 seconds... hahah

  • That transition at 1:02 was SEXY!!!

  • I love how the snare drum sounds!

  • That fuzz tone is orgasmic

  • the girl at 03:33 saved me xd

  • The beginning sounds like some real Funky Fly dancing ! :D

  • John Mayer for the next Chralie Harper!!! :D

  • fucking bitches, shut the fuck up will you

  • does anyone know what he's playing from 0:45 to 1:00?? trying to figure it out but having some trouble...!!

  • @senex3 "i was born without bones, can you carry me?"

  • @senex3 that small lick in my opinion sounds like the some of the chords from the song "Pick up the Pieces" with Candy Dulfur.... then again, its just my opinion

  • @senex3 Im pretty sure thats called a guitar... I might be wrong.

  • @senex3 first off, i think his guitar is tuned slightly sharp, and hes playing A. The rest is up to you to figure out: you'll be the better musician for it! :D

  • like the bass

  • the thing he does on 0:44 is just so insanely groovy!! and so unexpected..!

  • I dont like Sean's sounds...

  • CLAPTON'S UNKNOWN SON!

  • You know, Is it just me or should John fire his guitar tech for this concert? His guitars were out of tune from the get go.... Given that the mix is a pile of crap for this concert, but really... this is plain awkward... If Robbie's guitar tech can manage it why the ^&@*! can't John's.. sheesh.

  • @Stilgar74 John isn't out of tune.. everyone else is.

  • @Stilgar74 rennee martinez is never wrong lol

  • BB king, clapton, and SRV are his influences.

  • The pedal is a Pete Cornish GN2.

  • @MrRohcna GN2? or NG2? I thought I heard him say NG2..?

  • @TheFifthTake it's a pete cornish NG2. its like, 600 bucks

  • @Jamzamurai Thanks for the clear up, now I just need 600 bucks..LOL.

  • John breaks the jam with Steve because the bass player wanted in on it and ruin it.. lol

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!! :-D

  • @Seebbew

I dont think he himself knows!

I ask you this how many artists could if needs be entertain a crowd with their guitar for an hour without falling back on any known songs just improv and skill?

Not many including most of the people he would call influences!

  • @mutation999 ... you must not realize who a lot of his influences are. atleast his guitar influence.

  • actually, he did use a pitch shifter during these first performances.

  • @ottjakeaustin its an octave fuzz

  • Robert Johnson would be proud.... i bet no one knows who robert johnson and for who does i respect you

  • @subnate16 I think alot of people know who Robert Johnson, the blues-LEGEND, is... :P

  • Nice performance, yet.... something's really missing here. No blues thrill. Technically good, but no emotion. His live performance with EC is way better than this one. And if you want to hear a really fantastic version, check out the guy with the dobro and his "blues" cat.

  • funky as shit

  • wow... i dont expect a solo like that. blows me away!

  • This is wayyy better with the slide solo. It's a nice touch the studio version lacks. :)

  • i like john mayers intro to the solo so much better in this apposed to the studio version.

  • Gahh I love that White Stripes sound. He must have called Jack White up one day and was like VERY NICE, HOW MUCH??

    Love John Mayer. So talented.

  • @smt1199 I believe it's an incredible little thing called the Mudhoney by T.Rex

  • @ledzeprulz1234 nah. its the ND-2. I forget who makes it, but its the ND-2.

  • @tylerdwells Oh really? I don't think I've ever heard of it. 'cause I've seen on a pic of his rig once a T.Rex Mudhoney, and a Boss Blues Driver.

  • @ledzeprulz1234 He talks about it in the crossroads lesson which is right there--->

  • That is the most awesome fuzz sound ever. Pete cornish is asking over 500 pounds for this pedal which is a bit steep, but damn it sounds awesome and thanks to mayer i bet he's selling them by the bucketload..

  • It seems that the bass is slightly out of tune.

  • Lol he looks so goofy when he plays and sings but its good stuff =]

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of fuzz pedal is he using in this video?

  • @stickstickly111 pete cornish ng2

  • Shit, I forgot the name of John's right-hand man playing slide! Someone remind me?

  • @davidleachmusic robbie mcintosh

  • @davidleachmusic Robbie Macintosh.

  • i think he's sloly turning more clapton-y.

  • great playing but it seems like the guitar is out of tune? :S

  • robbie, you badass!

  • I think he did the tune great justice, but what I can't help but wonder is how many people in the audiance know that he didn't write it? I'm not trying to be derogatory or anything about his fans, but he pays a lot of homage to blues greats by revamping their classics but I wonder how many of his fans look into that kind of stuff.

  • @flcn92 i know robert johnson wrote it, and cream covered it.

right? i only knew about cream's version, until i got battle studies, where it says that it's written by robert johnson.

  • @FrittenxD You would be absolutely correct sir or ma'am!

  • @flcn92 ma'am! 8D

  • @flcn92 ma'am! :D

  • much better than the recording but the spirit is missing.

  • @Alex280592 you're equivocated men.. maybe there is something that you call spirit but in the music you have to do innovations and mayer have done this song with a new form and is fucking awesome compare it to disney and dance music of girls who sing songs thaht someone did for they.

  • I wonder if there are many people in the crowd who really know how talented he is, all I can see is wild girls -.-

  • @Seebbew I truly believe that there are a lot of people who don't appreciate/understand his talent. That is what makes him so stinking sexy! :)

  • @Seebbew lol and Steven Tyler haha I swear I saw him in the audience in one vid from this concert

  • @Seebbew there is at least one: STEVEN TYLER

  • @Seebbew the girls are just horny

  • @Seebbew and steven tyler haha

  • @Seebbew that's why he has the "John Mayer Trio". that's how he shows off his true talent to enthusiasts.

  • @Seebbew what about the wild boys? don't think they understand much more than the girls?

  • @Seebbew wild girls dont know how talented you are, but at least you can get laid.

  • way better than the recording, but still kinda lacks the original's power

  • great performance!!

  • same guitar as heartbreak warfare?

  • amazing

  • lol at the start *Crouching, boing boing, head flailing everywhere, scuttle across, grin, drums*

  • What a great solo

  • so cool when I heard John Mayer's name I thought he would be some guy like Elton John but then I tried listening to he's music and it's so amazing

  • It's amazing how much credibility a man like Robbie Macintosh contributes to JM's band.

  • @fc7alibi and It's amazing how awesome is he. I think In this genre Robbie is the best.

  • sick solo here. love it!

  • gotta love that crunch tone

  • the version with him an clapton is a billion times better...he shudda put that one on the album instead..but i still luv watchin this guy play haha

  • yeah his solo in that video is sick

  • his guitar is in tune.. He is using a Boss Pitch shifter of ssome kind to get that 'out of tune' sound.

    By the way. He's using 0.11 (-:

  • Acfually I think John is using 0.10 or 0.09 because his strat is the jeff beck masterbuilt. That strat has a wilkinson locking nut, you can't really use heavier than .10 with the wilkinson nut because it can cause binding.

  • He is using Ernie ball slinky 0.10

  • those are the regulat slinky right.. cuz the super slinky's are nines

  • thats right

  • awesome

  • @LuXguitaR

I saw John Mayer performing at tv total in a german tv show....talked to Rene Martinez for a moment while he was setting up the guitars. Saw about 30 sets of regular slinky....10...your right....

  • @BlackieEC89 the interview at this show sucked sooo hard.. stefan raabs(the interviewer) english was just too bad so he didnt get what john was saying..

  • what?! 0.12? he's a blues player, he bends all the time...plus, what about that headstock bend that he did on gravity in LA? there's no way he did that with 0.12

  • @gfmgma Stevie Ray Vaughan would play with .13's believe it or not.

  • wtf is that at 1.23, he coughs?

  • do you think he's using 0.9? or 0.10?

  • @allornada he usually plays 0.12 :p

  • no way. you sure? but he's not using low tunings like SRV, he using standard tuning, and there's no way he could bend like that

  • Yeah, just google it. ''John Mayer strings gauge'' everywhere you look.. .0.12..

I think half a year a go he posted his gear again.. he also said he used 0.12 there.

  • yeah his guitar is slightly out of tune

  • does anyone knows what kind of overdrive pedal does he use in this song?

  • Im thinkin its some kind of fuzz, possibly roger mayer axis fuzz, or a pete cornish OD

  • The quality of recording and mixing post-performance definitely doesn't do the performance justice.. On another of the concert's videos, it was mentioned that John had trouble with his monitoring earpieces.

  • Why his guitar is so out of tune?

  • lucasClarson-

    wait for it...

you're incorrect. it's A blues- the flat 5 is included. actually makes a big difference. way to go though, wiseass.

  • haha win.

  • haha 0:45 - 1:02 ....I was born without bones, can you carry me, can you carry me!

  • @PatClapp Wow man, nice observation!

  • @PatClapp I applaud you for that find!

  • @PatClapp holy crap man nice

  • @PatClapp not born without bones. it was a line from an average white band song called pick up the pieces.

  • @PatClapp dont understand, please explain!

  • @PatClapp lyrics from the Raconteurs "Store bought Bones"

  • @Bwoods612 good song!

  • @PatClapp Please tell me what this means? so confused...

  • @ztbsk8er go to johns youtube page and watch the video titled New Song Leak

  • I was in love with the Cd version, but this is even a thousant times better!

  • My man Robbie tearin' it up with that slide!! JMay's boss though. Duh.

  • Can someone tab this please?

  • yeah, i'll tab it for you

    Wait for it....

    Am pentatonic.

  • I can't believe how helpful people are on YouTube!

  • Comment removed

  • We all have to start from somewhere and i'm sure that you were once asking the same question 'Master'!

  • Awesome reply man. I laughed harder at this than I did at John's chicken impression. Really though, 32. It is easy. You could even look at the Cream version for reference. If you know the Am blues scale you essentially have everything you need. It's just John's sense of rhythm that makes this sound so good.

  • Hi, could you send me the tab as well please? That would be great! Love this song

  • hahahaaha, he looks like a chicken in the beginning with that head bob. haha. like a rooster pecking the ground, lol

  • its a simple observation. killing guitar playing, but the head bobbibg thing looked lieka chicken. why thumbs down! lol! its funny as shit!

  • look up live at merriweather 7-12-08 version may be better

  • The best version thus far is the letterman version.

It's not a "BATTLE STUDIES" strat...the fuck is that. It's clearly a jeff beck strat, just look @ the nut and the use of whammy bar...and yes its a NG-2 fuzz.

  • this guy gets it... thumbs up from me!

  • Great version, the one from battle studies was really disappointing: is it just me who thinks John is like E.C. great on stage and poppish in the studio albums?

  • clapton is the men on the albuns but he is so much better on stage he will never be like eric men sorry riding with the king its one of the best studio album ever or to road escondido

  • Riding and road to escondido are two of the worst Clapton albums, played with zero intensity and feeling. They're just played well. I am #1 EC fan but he's getting real down, last great album was Unplugged and somehow the tribute to Robert Johnson. John is good but he's better live, as well as EC. Great guitarists but no composers...

  • I do:d

  • It´s a Jeff Beck Stratocaster...

  • really?

  • no, it's a Battle Studies strat. there was also made a Continuum and Try! guitar.

  • sticky sound of bass fucking great

  • robbie macintosh is a great slide player

  • Prefer this to the studio version. The stacked vocals.. Yuck..

  • no because he's not just using a tube screamer.. he's using fuzz, and like i said, boss pitch shifter.. trust me, i know.

  • there's not a pitch shifter in that... you really know hey??? haha it's a a pete cornish NG-2 fuzz... the only boss pedal he uses are the TU-2 tuners... i get a kick out of all you "experts" on here.

  • can i get this tone if I turn the gain up all the way on a TUbe Screamer

  • more like fuzz pedal..and its a pete cornish pedal

  • awesome guitar solo....one of his best for sure

  • using the boss pitch shifter, that's why it sounds out of tune.

  • Bass sounds beautiful

  • fuck that groove between 54-1:04 is fucken gold i could listen to that all day

  • i dont' think u can

  • Can i get this tone with a TS9?

  • man i gotto say desirrous ur insane ... if u have some brains try to get the point i am making i am not at all criticizin JM instead am talkng the same thing in a +ve way dont sound like a hyper idiot stupid jerk if u dont have 1 ( brains ) then go on writing some non sensical shit ... which makes sense to u ...

  • i agree but i don think he was a but too high so on most of his songs his voice was a bit out of tune

  • I KNEW he'd gotten all Jeff-Beck-influency for this album, look at the freakin' strat!

  • John's voice is fucking amazing always, wtf are you talking about. You tone death? He's playing crossroads using different sound and vibes. Of course it sounds out of tune you idiot. He's playing out of the major key.

  • God's like Eric Clapton, Stevie, Hendrix, PAH. John Mayer is a god. don't know wtf you are talking about. Who can fucking top that style and artwork? Thats what a music sounds like!

  • i actualy love this fact that on his album he dares to cover the songs which are already historical , golden ... he knows comparisons will be there but still manages to pull off his strings right and comes closer to gods of guitar like jimi hendrix , clapton ...etc

  • yeah , it feels like that its something straight from his heart without thinking too much about anything although some times it becomes difficult to even compete with yourself once you have set standards really high i guess this is what will happen this time with JM as CONTiNUUM portrayed JM at at his best as a genious something like breaking records and taking annd experimenting blues at a new level but this record is more of self satisfying thing ... homely heartly and self uplifting ...

  • p.s ... steve jordan's hardcore drumming skills makes the album version really moving one , incredible ... good job JM and steve jordan

  • something terribly wrong with his voice thru out the show he s tryn to sing bt it aint coming out the way it usually does must b sick or something else although i quite liked the album version i think its more of a modern techno crossroads verrsion whereas the one by cream , clapton is a classic ...

  • such a sweet solo, way better than album version, i was kinda iffy about it because ive heard him play crossroads live on his last tour, and it was wicked!

  • Where's JJ?

  • his guitar is definitely out of tune.

  • where is pino???

  • haha at 1:22 he makes this face like "Hot Damn, I'm bad!"

  • I think he was acknowledging the girl singer's amazing harmony

  • I do not like how he did this one, I think he out thought himself on this, this static effect is not working and it strips the soul form the song. Go look up the great versions he has done of this song, either the one he did on Mayercraft2 or the duet he did with Clapton, both of those versions absolutely crush the one he put on the album.

  • that's okay.. I think he just wanted to do his own thing with this song.

  • I don't know about that. On the verses maybe, but during the solos on Mayercraft and the Clapton duet he went overboard. This solo is more calculated and better for it. I can see the high overdrive as a problem during the verses, though.

  • agreed. But hey if he feels the album version thats cool. I feel like this cd is like just something he wanted to do. He wasnt trying to prove anything or please anybody. But I still agree with you. The version with Clapton is sick. haha
