  • you know if you add the -j64 flag to make, it'll compile faster, right?

    Like this:

    $ make -j64 menuconfig

    $ make -j64

    $ make -j64 modules

    # make -j64 modules_install

    # make -j64 install

  • i can write laaaaa was so much fun of lol

  • meaningless video with sad music. even slow motion wouldn't help. 囧

  • This is so sad.. the music, the atmosphere.. it made me shed some tears :(

  • wow... you compiled already written code you ledge... why don't you find all the c programs on the internet and compile those too...add some noobish comments in to make them witty while you have random file names scroll down the screen as they're being outputted... that'll add to your 1337 status. Try writing one and get back to us.

  • Actually i've written my own kernel. Don't talk about shit you don't know about

  • @darkwizzard actually i have written my own kernel aswell its not complete or anything but i still know what the fuck im talking about

  • that was two years ago, you insensitive clod! I know C and have looked at kernel source code since 2003. I've yet to go through Linux Device Drivers though, bringing lame excuses like "not enough disk space on root."

  • geek high

  • so after that step burn to disk and boot i asume?

  • ooh nice and EVANESCENCE FTW!!

  • what is he trying to do. it is meaningless

  • meaningless is the perfect summary for this

  • :( i thought it would be a home made kernal btw i found this loking for mac fails!!

  • BEAUTIFUL<3

  • that made me cry xD

  • dont diss ubuntu users, us linux users have got to stick together and rise up against that damn company taking over the planet and steeling everyones money (micro$oft)

  • But does it run Linux? ; ^ )

  • How about a beowulf cluster of these?

  • Ah, I've been out-Slashdotted!

    : ^ )

  • it's beautiful!!

  • and dont forget arch! :D

  • Ha. I knew you were going to say something along the lines of "Gentoo ftw" after reading your first sentence.

(gentoo does kick serious ass btw) :-)

  • its so sad, you make me lost my time....

  • beautiful

  • i never compiled kernel, i always get .deb from ubuntu xD

  • O_o strangest video

DDTAttack ) on generic kernel 3DMark2000 had 3472 point, on my handmade compiling Kernel this point up to 6480..

  • sry, not 2DDTAttack

    2orgthingy

  • He's not compiling any kernel <.< try to install any distribution of linux, and, when it is loading press esc and try to write something... It will be similar...

  • You made me laugh, for a good second there.. Then you made me write a flame that exceeded the allowed maximum of characters.. So I had to delete it, and you'll have to do with this: You're an idiot.

  • How much takes you to compile it?, i mean im a Linux User, but i have no time to compile it, i just wanna know if hardware does a difference in compiling time/speed or is relative similar on some machines.

  • About ten minutes on my computer. It can take much longer depending on how many features and drivers you selected to compile. I remember once it was around 45 minutes on older computer.

  • it depends what kernel you are compiling; along with what distro you are using, and the power of the computer- like how the computer is. normally people don't compile a new kernel...because for example linux 2.6.18 is basically the same as linux 2.6.24; that is about a year apart. maybe longer. i mean- it makes a difference in security and maybe a few other things...but not really anything an average user would be worried about lol

  • ahhh good memories

  • what is called this song?

  • looks great, but, do you think update the Playstation 2 Kernel 2.1 to 2.4 is possible with your tutorial steps?

  • no. compiling 2.4 is (slightly?) different, especially for the ps2! Maybe you can find tutorials on how to do it, and see if someone had done it before or if it's even possible.

  • I haven't compiled a kernel yet. Should I learn assembly and C first or should I wait 'till I get a computer science degree before attempting it?

What was the geek joke in this vid, was there one? Help a non-egghead out please.

  • No, you only need to know how to rtfm and type at the command line.

For the geek note see the related vid from mrjakid :P

  • hahaha,, great,, xD

  • Cool man!!!!, looks like i will be up all night compiling my first LINUX Kernel :)

    Thanks for the links.

  • ahh...no problem! Glad to see someone found this helpful :)

  • This is funny, liked it.

  • I'll compile you a kernel,anyday.

  • Ah,GNU/Linux,the one true love of my life :)

  • cheers!

  • I'm not even sure, dude.

I was under the impression that all you had to do was do a

./configure to generate a make file built around your system's attributes, then just run make.

    Maybe make install...i'm not sure.

    I feel stupid.

  • it's ok...feeling stupid is the beginning of learning!

you can take a look at the tutorial that's in the discription. Compiling the kernel is a little different from others ;)

  • LOL! Only us users understand!

Eh, you run ./configure then make mrproper?

  • haha...

I don't know what mrproper is.

umm...do you know how to compile only the changes?

like if I changed one option, I have to recompile everything! :|

  • well.. good for you^_^

  • thanks! I did a second compile today :)
