I had a right to receive Estonian citizenship, as I was one of a few Russian-speaking people in Estonia who registered as an applicant for Estonian citizenship in 1989 (it was not safe to do it then... Read, for example, w w w kelam ee / ? mainID = 50). I had never used that right. But if I had, I would have asked for that citizenship to be revoked today. That's how I feel about what happened in Estonia these days... Shame on those monsters who did this!

You should better know your own history. Hundreds of thousands of people killed by Soviets in Estonia?! Check something else besides Laar books. The realistic number is from 40 to 70 thousands, many of them were war criminals, most of them were deported, many of them survived. Do not forget about Nazi Estonians crimes, they executed tens of thousands people here.

that statue is not a memorial for the fallen soldiers that fought against nazis.that statue is for the the russian soldiers who came to estonia and killed, raped and exported hundreds of thousands of people to siberia in animal wagons where HALF of them didn't make it.
estonia now has a population of somewhere 1 100 000. its kinda small isint it? and there were hundreds of thousands of them killed in soviet times. thats a big ammount. every fifth person was exported every forth jailed.

today in 1941, 10.000 estonians were deported from estonia by sovet authorities. 6.000 of them died in following years in siberia where most of them were relocated. we remember the dead and will not forget communist crimes.

When the Russians came into Estonia in September 1944, they continued the rampage of murder they had started in 1940 during their initial occupation of Estonia at which time the Russians and Nazis were FRIENDS AND ALLIES! Estonians have hated that 'monument' for DECADES because it glorifies their tormentors. I.e., 50 yrs of occupation.

I MUST repeat, Russians DID NOT liberate us, but they occupied all three Baltic states - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania in 1940'ies AGAINST their will. It's a shame Russians don't have knowlidge of actual history. Also, they are not to blame. We have to thank the government and censorship of Soviet Union for that. beboris, I was amazed that the author chose to nominate Romania of all places as a country where people are grateful for what the Russians have inflicted upon them. It is common knowledge how we feel about the soviet "liberators". The only country Russians have liberated was Russia. Everywhere else (Romania, Estonia, ...) they installed criminal puppet regimes. beboris. Btw, I've lived in Bucharest all my life and passed through the Victory Place thousands of times. I never saw that monument. It might be deep inside a park, where nobody knows about it. Mind you that first thing Romanians did in 1990 was to send Lenin's statue, which was indeed placed in a public square, to be melted.

This is not even about Russians living in the Baltic states who are being denied the most basic human rights by the governments. This is only about government-supported neo-nazism, which is now being battled by the only true enemy of fascism - Russia.
Last year SS veterans freely marched in Latvia, while a similar march by Russian W.W.II veterans was brutally suppressed by Latvian police, who used tear gas and sticks on 80-year-old men and women.

I had a right to receive Estonian citizenship, as I was one of a few Russian-speaking people in Estonia who registered as an applicant for Estonian citizenship in 1989 (it was not safe to do it then... Read, for example, w w w kelam ee / ? mainID = 50). I had never used that right. But if I had, I would have asked for that citizenship to be revoked today. That's how I feel about what happened in Estonia these days... Shame on those monsters who did this!

I don't trust the false pretext of the Estonian government one bit, because at the same time they are removing the monument to those fallen in the fight against nazis, they also glorify those who fought in the Estonian 20th SS brigade and who were the first in the Eastern Europe (in 1941) to declare their territory "juden frei" ("free of Jews" who they exterminated).

The Estonians truly deserve respect for their passive resistance to the communist regime which they always carried out. For winning their freedom bloodlessly, and for encouraging other countries in Eastern Europe do the same.
And yet today I feel ashamed for the new free Estonia. Today the "Soviet occupation" was used as a false pretext to remove the memory of those who liberated the world from an even worse evil than the communists - from nazis.

If it was just the statue it would still be there. Despite our mixed feelings about it. It were the people who gathered there at 9th May for past couple years and their behaviour that resulted in it's relocation.
It might also have been better if the russian name for the statue didn't translate into soldier-liberator. That liberator part really pisses us off.

The video, of course hides the truth about the post-war Societ occupation of Estonia. And yet, it is also true that the Soviet army did free Estonia (as well as the rest of the Eastern and Central Europe) from nazis.
The truth and history has more than one dimension. I do feel for Estonians who were occupied by communist regime and later had to watch how their country was "russified".

Again, this is an internal matter, there is no need to encourage hatered. Estonians can be friends to ethnic russians when they respect the local culture and the country. Similar riots have been organised in England by asian communities and also in France they had a similar problem with a minority group. PEACE!
