  • Well, this did not quite happen in the novel. Jane was to find out on the altar, and she never met Bertha.

    As for Jane, she was to look plain and wear clothes of similar plainness. This also means no jewellery. Wasn't she a brunette?

  • @Sumfera She did meet Bertha, though not so civilly as this! Mr Rochester took her, Mr Mason and the vicar back to Thornfield and showed Bertha to them following the disruption of the wedding to justify his reasons for trying to remarry.

    You are correct, however, that the clothes are inaccurate and that she was a brunette.
