This sequence has my favorite gunbarrel music of all; it's so bold and striking, but at the same time very elegant. Dr. No's barrel is a close second (following the gunshot, the futuristic background noise stops for a couple seconds before the James Bond theme starts).
Thats funny. I would say the opposite - the film was very good, excellent script, well directed with a good cast- except for Lazenby, who I think is the weakest thing in it.
@jayce79 I disagree, the 1 knee looks very unprofessional for a top spy, my 8 year cousin does 1 knee when we play lazer-tag. It looks wrong for James Bond, However, props to Roger Moore, who chose the more realistic approach with a 2 hander. Connery was very elegant with it, and Pierce was very fast like a gunfighter.
Well your welcome too your opinion. I've always thought it looked very different and very classic. Which is cool because it gives Lazenby's his own style and flavor as he is known as the one-time Bond. Not everything has too be ultra-realistic. We're talkin about James Bond in '69' for Pete's sake here.

George Lazenby - worst Bond ever. I just cringe thinking of him staying Bond. I haven't seen Craig, but I have seen Moore, Brosen, and Dalton. And personally, who knows how the series would have turned out if he had "stayed."
Sure they say he pulled out . . . but come on . . . people had to know he sucked. I mean first off . . . James Bond is not the Croc Hunter (RIP Steve Irwin) and that's what Lazenby sounded like. Yeah I get Lazenby was Australian . . . but not Bond.
Actually... Lazenby did great. He had a great voice and compared to the fact that it was his first time acting in a full time movie ... ever, he was really good. Also the music ruins the gunbarrel sequence not Lazenby. Daniel Craig is just shit. I recommend you don't see him.
I love this gunbarrell. The harpsichord really gives it the late '60s creepy feel. The hat and dropping to the knee really makes it stand out too. Its all a bit Hammeresque. My second favourite gunbarrell is the spy who loved me. I love the sound effect at the end of sequence....sounds so '80's.
Very different from standard gun barrel sequences:
1. The names of the producers appear and interrupt the rightward movement of the white dot
2. Lazenby drops to his knee. A bit melodramatic.
3. The flowing blood ENTIRELY COVERS his appearance, unlike all other gun barrels.
Of course, OHMSS was quite an "ordinary" Bond film. If only for it being such a good and significant Bond film, Lazenby's legacy to the franchise is ensured.
Going to his knee is awesome and he makes for a smaller target - bit over analysed, I know. Also he hits the guy right in the neck and a nice arterial spray completely covers the screen... He is that dangerous.
His walk looks funny.

I think it was egoistical for the producers to have their name put in the gunbarrel sequence. It completely disturbs the flow and transition.

Does anyone notice the smoke coming from Lazenby's gun?

Lazenby's walk was so effortlessly languid.

Lazenby was a perfectly good Bond, but the script for OHMSS was bull and the camerawork awful. Most underrated film tbh

This gunbarrel with song is second to For Your Eyes Only, and it's screams "BRITISH" better than the others.

I always like this gun barrel, it is almost kinda creepy because of the harpsichord type sound and the blood covering him.

Connery dropped to his knee, too. And the producers' names did interrupt the dot originally.
One thing I noticed is him walking in place when he first got on screen. Heh.

well i err didn't like his interpretation at all, lol. i know, i know he did try :( but he basically shot himself in the foot afterwards.
amarsbarr 3 years ago
Sorry but this Bond was terrible, Lazenby was a good fighter but a shit bond :)
amarsbarr 3 years ago
Come on stop getting Lazenby down!!
He made a great job and a great movie, you maybe don't like his interpretation of Bond but he acted good at all.
The Director told him to do this style of Bond, not he himself.
He followed his instructions perfectly, what should he better be??? .... should any actor copy Connery or Moore or sth. like this.
