help me? i don t no setup wind zero and wind gain ,help me please step by step ,i wait unswer mesage by by thank you. you send me this instrument damage, from patchmann music
The VL-70m is way expensive though! I admit it has more flexibility for EWI's, EVI's, MDT's, and what have you, but still.....However that doesn't mean I'll never get one, just not so likely to get one right away. I'll be upgrading the soundbank on the EWI first...I like Matt's patches :-).
No me parece mal la "asistencia" digital electronica en musica, sea o no acustica, pero el sonido de esta trompeta es...horrible. Ademas ni siquiera exige hacer buzzing, lo que la acerca más a un juguete q a un instrumento musical...
Not if you learn how to use it, and try a lot of patches to see how much more expression certain patches can be used instead of just playing it on a keyboard. It's basically meant for those that have a solid background in brasswind playing. I have an EWI(Electric Wind Instrument), and play saxophone, and find it's just as demanding as the saxophones ask from practice to learn and find out where and when it can be used or added. :-)
The MDT is easier to learn as you only have to worry about the fingering without having to buzz you lips. I help manufacture the MDT and can play them but not a real trumpet. The guy playing in this clip helped develop the MDT originally and is an awesome trumpet player. I posted this video to show what can be achieved with the MDT.
marvelous. the only thing missing is the glorious sound of a real trumpet in the hands of a real trumpet player. why so much third valve? makes me think this video is fake.
I think you need the third valve so mutch because the octaves are divided in 2 bits starting on c, so if you want to play a g you need to press 1/3 otherwise you get a c instead.
My opinion, So much third because it has octave buttons. I guess its similar to picc, to think about anyways. Sounds an octave higher, but low octave fingering. so no matter what I think it would always be low c to middle c fingering on this thing. my guess.
The valves certainly "feel" like the valves on an acoustic trumpet. They're actually optical switches (breaks a beam of light to tell you pressed them) which is pretty cool, so they won't wear out like if they were pressure sensitive. The hardest part for a brass player is getting used to the buttons on the left hand for changing partials.
The buttons on the left side represent G's and Cs, so instead of using your embouchure like an acoustic brass player, you use these buttons to make the instrument go higher or lower throughout the range. 4 octaves are immediately accessible, and there are octave buttons to go further in either direction.
I guess in my original question, I was looking for a definition of a partial. In all my years of trumpet playing I never heard of that word being used
Hmm well it's possible I'm using the term incorrectly :) But i've certainly heard "partial" used- one of the definitions is the harmonic or overtone of a musical sound. But maybe there's a better word for it? What word do you use? If you google "brass partials" and pick the first link from answers dot com, it uses the word "partial" in the way that I mean it. In any case, that's the hardest part of the MDT to get used to, using both hands to push buttons like a woodwind player ;)
Thats the point. :-) If you can play the trumpet you can now play and sound like what ever instrument you like!!. You can still sound like a trumpet if you choose a trumpet sound..

Is there a reason this has a different name than EVI? I guess James probably just wanted his name on it or something. I can understand that.

nice improv but its sad that technology is replacing the real thing

so do you have to buzz still?
adamscorpionman210 3 years ago
No. It uses any standard trumpet mouthpiece but the breath sensor only pics up breath velocity.
sirslarti 3 years ago
So if i used an embouchure to hit lets say a high c, it would only come out as the mid register note?
lHaveNoIdea 3 years ago
This is the most expensive way to harness the sound of a Casio Sk5 while looking like your playing the trumpet.
realnicoli 3 years ago
I am no familiar with these. Do you have to have correct embouchure or can you just blow through them?
jazztrmpr94 3 years ago
You just blow through it, though it uses an actual trumpet mouthpiece.

There is a ton more info about the MDT and a better quality version of this video at patchmanmusic dot com. Click on the MDT logo.

hmm.... are the valves the same? and if its digital, then I'm pretty sure there aren't many tuning issues.... =)

what's a partial
you mean, the invertal between a G and a C, or between a A and a C#?
