This doesn't prove racism at all. It just shows that humans have an inbuilt need for connection to their family and those close to them and they naturally care about them first. The fact is that people of a different race are further removed from their family and thus less concern will be shown. This is similar in concept to when news articles report more on local events than far away events. Humans require strong local connections for their survival.

I suppose it could be explained by the fact that most respondents are obviously going to be white, given the demographics of the US. It wouldn't rule out the possibility that black respondents may also show prejudice against whites which would not show up in the results. Noting the race of the subjects would correct for this ambiguity.

@diasent correction, I've seen that they placed 1200 advertisements over 3 years. Even though i'm a little hesatant about the truth, it is known that in larger markets like Ebay and Craigslist, they got about the same amount of bids at the same price. It was just slower markets where they see a 24% difference which leads me to the concern that they fudged the statistics.

This doesn't prove racism at all. It just shows that humans have an inbuilt need for connection to their family and those close to them and they naturally care about them first. The fact is that people of a different race are further removed from their family and thus less concern will be shown. This is similar in concept to when news articles report more on local events than far away events. Humans require strong local connections for their survival.

I suppose it could be explained by the fact that most respondents are obviously going to be white, given the demographics of the US. It wouldn't rule out the possibility that black respondents may also show prejudice against whites which would not show up in the results. Noting the race of the subjects would correct for this ambiguity.

@diasent correction, I've seen that they placed 1200 advertisements over 3 years. Even though i'm a little hesatant about the truth, it is known that in larger markets like Ebay and Craigslist, they got about the same amount of bids at the same price. It was just slower markets where they see a 24% difference which leads me to the concern that they fudged the statistics.
