  • Joe sings this so effortlessly... My favorite Connelly classic. And to think Roger Ross is now tapping his way to medals with Main Street! The AIC is goofy!

  • They paid so close attention to the interpretation. I noticed a lot of staggered breathing between the different voice parts. Beautiful!

  • Roger was our Barbershop Director in Florida for a little while. I really miss these guys. Was so fun to sing with them during some competition woodshedding.

  • Tony! Tony! Tony!

  • chilllllls!

  • laught like a otari

  • Fucking rad. Just absolutely amazing. I wish I could arrange stuff like that.

  • bravo

  • Roger Ross is the best Tenor i have ever heard!

  • This blows my mind. I found Mandy Patinkin singing this song and thought it was beautiful, but, these guys make it four times as beautiful. Absolutely pure harmony without any assistance. A lesson for the world = harmonize,.

  • Lovely song!

Today I was watching the movie

    "Hanging Up" starring Diane Keaton,

    Lisa Kudrow and Meg Ryan...

Anyway my point is that this song was in the movie and I thougth that I just had to listen to it again on Youtube!

  • I live right near Don Barnick (the bass) and he helped coach our quartet to a championship. Really great guy.

  • ..also the eyes medley i can barely hear the post from the tenor. I think it would benefit from him generally singing up - rather the down - as suggested above and joe reigning it in a little.

  • Joe reigning in a little? I didn't think "Joe Connelly" and "reigning in" could fall in the same sentence. :P

  • I honestly think a lot of the above comments are off the mark. the idea that gary lewis is a light airy tenor is nonsense. When singing with platinum he is a much more, and consistently, prominent force than roger ross is here.

Sadly another version of once upon a time sung by platinum was removed from this site, but was very fine. What stikes me whenever i here gary lewis in tenor-especially the 'falsetto' end-is how loud he is. But in a good way. Listen to 337-9 here. The balance is hot ideal.

  • That was awesome! And now other quartets sing it..

  • Does anyone know who arr. this?

  • Rob Campbell, My quartet is singing this in the spring competition in the Seneca land district

  • THANKS!!

  • I would have to agree with the Eric Dalbey choice as well or Rich Knight, 2 leads that do not push there tone in such an unhealthy way as many leads do! Better blend and more beautiful, just an opinion!

  • If you're implying that the sound Joe Connelly produces is either pushed or unhealthy, I have to disagree with you; his sound is completely supported by his breath, which is by far the most common culprit in unhealthy singing. I think what you hear as "pushed" is simply a kind of singing that's at the other end of the vocal spectrum (excuse the pun) from an Eric Dalby or Chris Vaughn; it's much heavier, much darker, and generally requires a tenor voice that stays out of the way, so to speak.

  • Just to add, I think this is why Connelly sings with tenors who have a light, airy quality--Roger Ross, Gary Lewis--in order to balance the sound.

  • You nailed this right on the head. BTW Roger Ross is one of the loudest tenors Ive ever heard. But he scales it back for this quartet. But if have ever heard him go "full bore" on a tag it will bust your ear drums. Search for Keepsakes' "EYES MEDLEY". Roger kills it.

  • Out of curiosity I just went and looked at that video, another awesome performance by the four of them. Isn't it Tony blasting the snot out of that-as usual? There is much discussion about it over there.

  • Tenor - Tim Waurick

    Lead - Eric Dalby

    Bari - Tony Derosa

    Bass - Jim Henry

  • no way man... eric is not a strong lead... sorry to say..

  • WOw! Jus listening to this makes me fall with tears! So lovely!

  • what was he saying at :22? It sounds like "When he quit laughing it throws our timing off" He sounded mad..

  • I think it was a joke to the audience, "Will you quit laughing?!? It throws our timing off!" But he does sound a little angry.

  • what timing?

  • My FAVORITE of Keepsake! The added reverb from the acoustics doesn't hurt either. ;)

First saw Joe in Hartford, 1987, with the Interstate Rivals. They had just won the gold. SO many years later, he still rocks! For the techie b-shoppers out there...I like all of the bari root chords. Keepsake rings the !@^$ out of them! "but some..HOW" ...that one...and several others. You lose Tony and Joe sometimes...tells ya how well they're blending. Can listen to this one a zillion times and still love it!

  • Carl would shake the walls down.

  • I must agree with this guy...he seems like he knows a whole lot about barbershop...and blend is a BIG thing.

  • I was meaning Jaeger315

  • I would have to say...

    Lead - Ken Hatton

    Tenor - Todd Wilson

    Bari - Tony DeRosa

    Bass - Jim Henry

  • Mine would be:

Lead: Joe Conelly or Rich Knight

Tenor: Tim Waurick or the tenor from Four Voices(sorry dont know his name)

Baritone: William Hunkin (Musical Island Boys)

    Bass: Oxley

  • Four Voices tenor - Lester Rector. With him singing All Rise...... oh man. I just lost it.

  • will hunkin? nice

  • The description says this clip is from Feb. '07. Really? Must have been quite a feat to get them together! I thought Joe was singing with the revived Interstate Rivals, and Tony would be too busy with MaxQ to gig with Keepsake. If so, they didn't miss a beat.

  • Bass - Jim Henry

Bari - Tony DeRosa (by far my most favorite bari!)

    Lead - Joe Connelly

    Tenor - Tim Waurick

  • Dream Quartet

    Bass:Cory Hunt(OC Times)

    Bari:Jonny Moroni(Vocal Spectrum)

    Lead:Tony De Rosa (Max Q)

    Tenor:Timothy Waurick (Vocal Spectrum)

  • But looking back at the earlier, I see Timmy Waurick as a lead and Lester Rector as Tenor (you could go either way really) along with TOny and Jeff, and that would kick some serious musical butt! They all peel paint!

  • my dream quartet...

    Lead-Rich Knight

    Bass-Jim Henry

    Tenor-Tim Waurick

Bari-Tony DeRosa or Jonny Moroni- these St. Louis dudes are pretty good!

  • Tenor- Tim Broersma

    Lead-Joe Connelly

    Bari- Tony De rosa

    Bass- Brett Littlefield

    Honorable Mention

Lester Rector, Mark Hale, Jason Janurary, Jim Henry

  • My dream group would be

Lead Rich Knight Gas House Gang

Bass Rick Staab Bluegrass Student Union

    Bari Tony De Rosa Keepsake

    Tenor Todd Wilson Acoustix

  • Mine Would be:

    Lead- David Harrington (Second Edition)

    Tenor- Drew Kirkman (Michigan Jake)

    Baritone- Gary Lewis (MAxQ)

    Bass- Don Barnick (Keepsake)

  • Gary Lewis best BHS baritone alive today!!!!!

  • what does he have to do with this though?

  • lol

  • Its a joke in response to someone saying gary cant sing.....I am completley aware that this song has nothing to do with him

    hee hee

  • I'm a Brandon Guyton fan myself...

  • hes a bari :D

  • I think the clip from Platinum singing this song is a bit btter, but not by much.

  • na i reckon tony should be lead, with oxley, uhm and tim warwick tenor, Lestor-naaaa...uhm and bari could be slamka or jonny moroni was it? from VS

  • yeah. you guys are right. if we took the Gary and Don with Tony and Joe, it would be a super group.

if you could make a dream barbershop group, who would be in it? mine:

    tenor- Lester Rector

lead- Tim Waurick (those two would rock)

    bari- Tony DeRosa

    bass- The Oxman

  • I'm with you on 3/4 but I'd rather see either Clay Hine (FRED) Or Brandon Guyton (4V). Lestor is one of the best tenors ever and you can never go wrong with Jeff Oxley.

I like Mark Hale (Michigan Jake) But unfortunately, his style only seems to work with MJ and probably wouldnt blend with others (and their style).

  • Mine would be

Lead- Guy from Gas House Gang

    Tenor- Guy from Realtime

    Bari- Jason January from Acoustix

    Bass- Oxley

  • Don is a by far the cleaner singing bass and IMHO produces more upper partials. His vowel targets are far more consistent than Kevin's. Don rocks.

  • do u think keepsake sings it better than platinum....ofcourse we all tony and joe sang in both
