  • i hear it breaks clean, breaks clean, breaks clean

  • Looking at adding a small foundry to my workshop. I've read several articles about making sure the sand is moistened to the correct consistency. Your video was very helpful in demonstrating just what it should look like. Thanks for sharing it.

  • great video, very helpful, thanks for sharing.

  • How do you grind up the kitty litter?

  • How frequently does greensand have to be replaced? I would imagine that the silica would fuse from the heat of the molten metal over time.

  • this is awesome thanks for posting

  • Get a cheapie hand mixer--use that for mixing/blending/tempering/mulling your sand.

  • thank you

  • so anyway!

  • an old caster called jack couts told me to use molases to bind it but i still need to cook the mold and it goes like a rock and when you put it in a pail with a lid it will soften for to be reused a have used it and i like it he told me never to use chemical set sand as it is bad for your health so he said to use molases as a setting agent it may be a pain cooking it but is cleaner and safer on your lungs i have used sand and clay but with the molases it gets hard enuff to cut and file or sand

  • great video !!

  • If you don't wanna mix you can always buy already made greensand.

  • should you wear a mask of some sort while melting down aluminum? Or is aluminum safe enough to melt down without having health defects?

  • hay man i went to make this and got some cat litter to use but didnt c till i got home it says Made from natural zeolite will that still work or should i find Bentonite cat littler cheers

  • can i use fireclay and normal playground very fine sand??

  • 10% every ew m0nths 0r s0 ( every year maby if its h0by). first u will blame the sand f0r bad "lifts" years 0f practise u will see. "its all in the hands baby!" n0t the sand. h0pe this helps pe0ple, im 0nly 26, but trained 5 years under master f0undryman. Im sh0cked theres such a lack 0f kn0wlidge 0ut there, gess it trully is a dieing art f0rm

  • never use oil! 0nly use if your trying to cast in the desert! Also best ( proper way) to condition sand is, spray down, chop/turn/ spread out, piell it, repet steps. ( till u get right water c0ntent) then sieve the hell out of it! pr0per sand must be c0nditi0ned, its crap when new, w0rking it gives u a g00d balince 0n sphericall versus el0ngated sand particlles. bentanit is nesasery, but al0t 0f amiturs find thay need t0 keep ading it t0 the sand t0 keep its strength. this is inc0rect, just add

  • will this work for concrete molding as well?

  • Nice demonstration. I have some " proper" foundry sand and have not tried to make my own but often get asked how to make it.

  • i asked a pro if i could use kittly litter, then he spit on me

  • how did you grind the kitty litter?

  • this is exactly what I have been looking for, thank you

  • Good work mixing all that by hand. It could be quite relaxing if my mind got distracted enough.

  • @lexichronicle2

Thanks, I agree. This is only enough to fill my 10x10x2.5" flask. I have an additional 3 cubic feet of it in the garage but I'm sure you understand why I don't temper more than I have to, relaxing or not! :D

  • @zhmapper A question: Silica sand (Grinded kitty litter) + Fire clay , what are the percentages? 50-50 some sources say.Did you use 90 silica - 10 Fclay?

  • :D SAND PIT :D
