really guys?!! we know osha stuff, we know the timber issue, we know our job! this video was to make fun of the stupidity involved with all that. Please watch and LISTEN before making the same lame comments
thank you for your input. we dont have a choice on jobs like this, we are told what to do and what to install by local regional building departments. oh yes, our tax dollars hard at work! I would never have even used the dumb timbers! totally not needed!
I would have installed rubber washer underneath the Pressure treated lumber to lift the lumber about 1/4 of an inch. This would have allowed the water to run underneath and into the gutter. Otherwise, the water will collect at the top of the PT lumber and possibly go back under the shingles....
ok, you dont read and watch before commenting, i get that...but dont tell me what is or was on a building i worked on hot shot. I have been doing this for awhile! Those were early 80's hot air panels we tore off and replaced with new, updated hot air panels...you didnt even notice those did ya. 2nd, its a 3/12 pitch roof, no tie off required here for that...do your homework before you run your mouth. 3rd, we would never use timbers, that was regional & engineering! Thanks for commenting
First, your "Before" image shows hot water panels, not PV modules. Second, in most states working on a roof like that without harnesses would put you out of business -- OSHA isn't shrugged off quite so lightly as that. Third -- laying down 2 x 8 lumber is perfectly stooopid, and makes for a messy install.
You have a great attitude! Thank you for recognizing that I was not only looking out for you and yours, but the Industry as a whole. Investing in a couple of harnesses will be invaluable. Cheers!
You have been in business long enough to know that you should be using safety harnesses when on a pitched roof. I am glad you understand your customers. You need to start understanding OSHA practices or you will lose your license and insurance. I don't care to address Andalay and their poorly designed system. The industry will flush them out like waste. What I would like to address is your unsafe installation practices. Show this video to your insurance company.
Thank you for your concern, it makes me happy to know there are others in the world looking out for me and my guys! As long as my guys are sober, they wont fall off...so my insurance will not be an issue. If they are drunk...well, they are not covered anyhow, lol.
Again, thanks for spending the time to point out your concerns and let us know if you ever need and affordable solar system installed!
Before you guys post another video, you need to start following OSHA best practices or you will lose your insurance and licenses. The Andalay systems will be less efficient than a mounting system using taller standoffs and rail. Heat kills.
We have been in the businees long enough to know that there are many issues with many diffrent solar systems marketed out there. Being certified and in the solar world for many years, I can tell you that we really do understand the needs of our customers, our demographics and what is required, you should stick with yours. If you have any issues with this video or with over heating issues pertaining to panels, you should talk directly with Andalay, they would be happy to address all your concerns
I don't like the 2x's on the roof. Whose idea was that? They will end up causing problems I guarantee it. You just created two dams at each set of panels.
You should explain better why you did this otherwise you are hurting your cause.
good point, sure was not my idea. Our regional building dept required us to hire an engineering firm because it is a commercial building. They said we had to mount the panels on those goofy timbers, we argued for days, but in the end, what they required was law. Thanks for bringing that up. Those are never required in residential applications.
That was 12 panels, but normally we sell the Andalay as a 13 panels pack. It comes with every single thing you need to install it. Inverters, panels, standoffs, screws, the whole nine yards. about 1k per panel. so $13,000 for the total system. It is very sleek because it sits so low and is all 1 piece when done (no gaps between each panel)

Please explain exactly why you needed to add the wood? The engineering firm required it for them to sign off on a commercial building? Damn crazy.
