man, i've been listing to him for a long time and i like to think this song is a sinical look on him slowly passing away, and him seeking someone to take his place....
Another brilliant song by Warren. "LIfe'll Kill Ya" is a great CD. Zevon was brilliant through his entire song writing career. Just vastly under recognized, and not appreciated for brilliant prose. He was a story teller, as well as a composer. I consider him the "Van Gogh" of rock and roll. He wrote about his neighborhood, history, drug abuse, and love.

@johnthehulk1 I once read an explanation from someone as to why Zevon was not more celebrated. It went something like: You can't write 140 IQ songs for a public that wants 40 IQ music. I think that about sums it up.
Nah my top fav of his now is My Shit's Fucked Up. I laughed so hard at that song I was crying. I hadn't heard that one and I thot I had all Warren's stuff. When my hubby and I were dating, he played me this weird looking album that had a big .45 in the middle of a plate of food. That turned me off right there to desecrate a fine piece of firepower. That was my first introduction to Warren Zevon I was hooked LOL!
okay, so two people disliked this song... didn't know Bob Dylan and Neil Young had youtube accounts. Seriously though, what a tremendously underrated lyricist.
To me, along with Robert Allen Zimmerman, the best songwriters I've heard in my life!!! Too bad he will only write songs in Heaven now! R.I.P. Mr. Zevon!
this song is my theme song, the world needs zevon whether it knows it or not he needs to come back at least to do a song about what the afterlife is like, the story of the afterlife as told by warren would be amazing.
I can't get enough of this tune! heard it for first time 3 weeks ago. Always like Zevon and saw in Buffalo NY in 1994. I am just really discovering alot more of his stuff. WOW!!
One of the many lines I would love to be able to claim as my own. Sadly enough, I don't have even close to that kind of talent. On the other hand, how lucky we are that Warren DID have that kind of talent!!
What about the opener: "I can saw a woman in two/ But you wont want to look in the box when I'm through?"
Franz Nicolay's version shits all over this song....Yeah ok.......IM SURE FRANZ FEELS THE SAME...ASSWIPE

Not one of Zevons famous songs, but one of his best! Oh, hell, they're all "bests". Love the irony and honest, self-deprecation in this one though.
