Awesome with a capital A, we used to have this concert on video (till the video player chewed the tape) and when this song came on, my mum would turn the volume up loud and me and her would dance round the house, great!
According to Guiness, this is the 8th largest concert in the world and the 3rd largest in Central Park with 500,000 attendees. At the time in 1981, it was the largest gathering in Central Park and 3rd largest in the world! I listened to it on radio at the time...it was fantastic!
if this is the central park concert I believe it is in the guiness bok as the largest peaceful gathering of people in US history. We need more of this stuff.
Garfunkel was popped for possessing weed, Simon never needed him after the harmonizing period passed. The culture of random sex and drug use seems to go hand in hand! Accompanied by music!
Exquisite in its early 80's naiveté. The pop world owes a lot to Paul Simon for bringing in world influences when the rest of his generation were going down a dinosauresque cul-de-sac.
It's funny, I think Paul Simon is maybe not into this song in the beginning. Maybe calling it in? Shame the camera cuts away from his only vocal solo at starting at 01:24, that brings a lot of people to their feet.
Then the horns kick in at 01:52, bringing more of the crowd alive, and Steve Gadd gives his two-crash climax at 02:15.
When we come back to Paul, he is a man transformed. His eyes are dancing, has a huge grin, he's loving it all. It carries the rest of the song to the too soon end.
Some of the best music ever composed. Simon and Garfunkel are wonderful together. In response to wildcatter63, the Graceland album couldn't have been any better. Its a different style of music; world music. Theres deffinately not any "shame" in any of the music Paul Simon puts out.
Adding Garfunkel's voice really helps. Shame that this album (Graceland) was a solo effort, because the harmonies that they do are better than just Simon solo...Just my 2cents worth
Steve Gadd is arguably the most recorded drummer in history, featured on over 600 albums. Gadd is renowned for his incredible ability to play "in the pocket," or to groove especially well with the music, or other instruments/musicians he is playing with.
Simply amazing! I wish that I could have been there Paul during the concert remarks that he can smell that they are enjoying themselves, you couldn't do that these days, thanks to rap and crap, no outdoor concerts! In the city of New York.
birdman i saw this tour at wembley stadium england. i will never forget it. it was an honour to see them. it was easily the best concert i have ever seen.
It is a perfect performance! With my poor eyesight I thought that it was Paul McCartney on bass.....then I noticed that it was a Les Paul Gibson! Shame, I would like to see Mr Gadd and Paul play together!
Have a look at things, going on in good old germany near the danish border. The videos at central-park dot de show, what seven guys, aged from 21 to 58, do to have some fun.
my high school band is playing this song to and its kinda hard to march and be playing the right parts at the same time but i think i'll get (hopefully) :/
I am enchanted by the band and genre of music super

Just like wildcatter63 said, I think most of Paul`s songs here sound much better in this concert than in the original recordings

Music like this is slowly fading away to the prepackaged, overhyped, unoriginal, synthesized crap and it's a shame.....this is great stuff
