I think her interpretation of the character is formidable. Ursula is scary as a villain in the movie because of her power and humor, and I think her take harks back to that more than Sherie's. However, although she had a great belt before (guys and dolls), she does seem to be a bit past her prime vocally. And the costume looks cumbersome for her

The broadway Ursula is a strange character to portray - on one hand, it's somewhat watered down, stuffed with puns and humorous punchlines, so it's difficult to portray evilness in her when you have that. While Sherie has a good voice, she almost has too much fun with the role and has almost a innocent, mischevious sort of evilness. Faith is moving in the right direction here, but is lacking in vocal talent. Pat is the best vocally and in acting, but she didn't have to deal with the jokes...

As far as acting wise, Faith is pretty good, BUT the vocals are just not there like the rest of the gals who've done the song, I don't think they ever really found URSULA on stage, every portrayer (sherie, heidi, emily, ciciely, faith, sharon) has had some pieces that add to the character but there wasn't a complete package Ursula in anyone except Pat, and I think thats one of the reason the show didn't last.

In my opinion, Faith is the only Ursula on stage who captured the sarcasm & wit of Pat Carroll's performance from the movie. I admit that this performance on The View made it seem her portrayl of Ursula was lacking in personality, but I think it was because she was thrown off by the modulation. I did, however, see her in some of the professionally shot videos as well as a bootleg show of her and she really outshined her The View performance. Plus, I think she's the only one who LOOKS like Ursula

@jnetusil Sherie is amazing! Plus, she stayed with the show for a lot longer than most people do. She was in the show for over a year, and since she was the one who brought the role to life, it's understandable that at some shows she would seem tired or less into it. I mean, she stood by that show for a long time. Faith is awesome, there's no doubt about that. But Sherie was never bored with the role, and never forced. She's spectacular!

If any of you knew a thing about performance, you would know that each actor should be different. Pat Carroll is the one true Ursula. I don't think anyone could top that performance. Plus I hate the key change!! I know they usually change them for Broadway, but this one makes Ursula sound too feminine and less evil!! If it were up to me, I would of kept it in the original key and cast Harvey Firestien!!! He would've bee better than any of them! After all, when Disney created the movie, they got the idea of many of her traits from Divine!!

The thing that made Ursula so appealing was how she moved. She'd used her hips a lot more and was very seductive. This woman just stands there.

Also, Ursula's tentacles are a huge part to her character. They just don't work with this dress. They did the best they could, I guess. But it doesn't work.
