Very cool. Just saw the Doobies in Shippensburg, PA. They did NOT play this song live there. I saw them play it live in Williamsport, PA about 4-5 years ago. They didn't miss a lick. Wish I could play like you! I'm jealous!!!
The CD says Slat. According to Pat Simmons who wrote and recorded it, was a misprint. It was supposed to say Slack Key on the Stampede album. Slack Key is a Hawaiian style of playing generally using open tunings.
It's "slack key"...it was originally misspelled on "Stampede" by the record label and eventually corrected when it reappeared on "Rockin Down The Highway—The Wildlife Concert". (It also appears with the correct title on 2 other albums...search Amazon for "Slack Key Soquel Rag".) The style of the song is based on Hawaiian slack key.
Compared to the other renditions done by anyone other than Patrick Simmons and John McFee, you're the best! Although I am not a musician, I know that this song is very difficult to play...good job!
Watching your effortlessly fluid motions is as peaceful as observing a jelly fish being carried by the waves. I know that's strange, but I think you know what I mean.
this is great playing Marty,i was raised in hawaii and i played this style a lot, take a needle and some thread, tape the thread to the guitar, let the needle dangle on the strings

Nice work, MartyPlaysMusic. You might also like to try "Clear As The Driven Snow" by the Doobie Brothers. Thanks for the great music :)

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'll try to learn "Clear As The Driven Snow" and see how it comes out. That's a great suggestion for a tune!

Marty. You are very talented! Slat Key is a beautiful guitar song. I bet Pat Simmons would even be impressed!

Gorgeous. I had all the Doobie albums back in the day. Haven't heard that song in 20 years at least. Thanks for the gift.

Outstanding......Patrick Simmons is one of the most very under-rated guitarist. Lindsay Buckingham is another one.

If I died and figured out later that I'd never heard this tune, why...I'd kill myself! Absolute required reading for any guitarist.
Great job - keep on pickin'!
