the problem is probably that strap attached to the doors, they might be blocking the electric eye which is not letting it close.

I think the close button is just broken since this elevator takes so long to close, that everyone who rides the elevator pushes the button, so it wears out and breaks.

@owenhinton this elevator is in the Pavilion (former A&S/Strawbridge's). It is down the corridor in-between Borders and the former Golf store on 2, and in-between The Cheesecake Factory and DSW Shoes on 1. I will warn you that if you take it the 2nd floor, there is a 95% chance you will get stuck as it has magnetic switches that always stick together, and therefore cannot communicate with the controller, and the elevator hits the maxout switch for the 2nd floor, and stops, and is inoperable :P

Where I work, we have 4 freight elevators. Each it is operated by a button. You have the hold the button for the elevator to close. If you press the call button and it rings, means the the door is still open. It will not close automatically until someone press the close button and hold in order for the freight elevator to close.

@fusoe that's how NORMAL freight elevators are... This lift is NOT normal by any means, I've ridden as well... I got stuck in it too. It sucks... It's a real P O S, only made possible by SIMON property group LOL

It really is the former Abraham and Straus (A&S), then when the chain went out in 1995, Strawbridge's moved in around 1997 They closed in 2000 when the former Wannamker (octogonal building) which was then Hecht's closed, and Strawbridge's moved there... The Pavillion (former A&S) opened in 2001.

I have videoed a virtual shindler freight elevator (but because i'm from the uk i've called it a goods lift) Because it's in a simulator, the only way to make a dead door close button would be to make the background textures with a huge empty space then at the bottom put a door close button. It's not a button so it won't work! But as I'm not the author of the building I can't do that! Anyway, you can view the video by searching for 'virtual shindler freight' (without the apostrophise [ ' ])

Motor sounds like a Schindler, Schindler has the electric eyes on their freight elevators (newer ones at least) and most of the elevators in the mall are Schindler. So pretty good bet it's a Schindler.

@dieselducy obviously... It was originally an A&S, and it was sold to Strawbridge's in c. 1986/1987. It was only an A&S from 1981-c.1989, but they sure made sure to put in their lovely quality Otis/Esco elevators...

@dieselducy We have the exact same elevator (minus the auto doors...have to hit door-close button that actually works :P) at Macy's (used to be Foley's). The other escalators are Montgomery.
