I don't know why but the chord change from 3:29-3:33 is my favourite part! It's like a Beach Boys California pop song that washed up on the Jersey Shore! I love how there's heartache and yearning beneath the sunshine and daylight in this tune.
I haven't paid any attention to Bruce Springsteen for so many years, and then I heard this song on the radio yesterday. I thought it had to be an old 1970's nugget that I'd never heard. When I heard it was a new song, it blew my mind. This song is so good and Bruce sounds half his age. Good on him!!!
Hardcore Springsteen fan since I was 14. My older brothers turned me on to him when The River came out in 1980. I'd like to think my Bruce creds are in order. This is one of the best songs he's recorded. I love it. How can this song have gotten no radio airplay?
I just love watching his video . If you havn't seen him Live you really must go. Bruce and the E Street band good heath the rest of the tour Love you guys

Bruce , try not to sway your influence towards SOCIALISM...we all know you can pull outta dodge at the drop of a dime .
Remember when you were a little American and your shit had smelled like ours ??????
stay out of the political arena unless you do not have a personal agenda .
one more 9/11 on our sorry asses and you can pull another 200,000,000.00 with no problem just weeping like you care into a mike . REMEMBER where you came from , not where you intend to go .
This song is about an old man ogling young girls. Bruce Springsteen may be an entertainer first, but he's also a person. And as a person, he feels obligated to do what's right, ESPECIALLY after the Born in the USA fiasco. Either way, if you have a problem with his politics, pick a political song to complain about.
Why should Bruce Springsteen stay out of the political arena? He's a citizen and has as much right, and obligation, to stand up and make his voice heard as any of us. And if his voice is louder than most people's because of his celebrity, well, we all use the tools we have.
You're free to disagree with his political opinions and argue against them, but I'm not sure why you think he just ought to not express them.
Hey, amysauers, you're so right - this could be a Magnetic Fields song! i dunno, something about the melody..and i guess, the vocals, too, come to think of it, that all seems vaguely familiar...
Well, given that it's a "donation" (i.e., money you are guaranteed not to see again) versus an "investment" (i.e., funds you expect to grow), I'm not sure that "ROI" is really a relevant concern of his.
I love how they showed young girls and more mature women in this video. The 'beautiful loser' character here is democratic, and wise, and best of all, content.
omg!! you can smell the hate....sorry u guys or whatever you are, jus go back to listening to ur Jonas Brothers an jus enjoy life...this isn't really that important...
You folks need to calm down. Why are you so hostile over a pop tune? Now, about the song: if you're young, you may not have the perspective to "get" this song because it addresses the bittersweet experience of aging. If you don't understand, no explanation is possible; if you do, no explanation is necessary.
Yeah, this is one of Bruce's sweet bittersweet songs and I'm glad it got a Grammy. I love the whole MAGIC album, but this is the song I put on "repeat". Peace!
Critics murdered this album when it came out but I love it. Its a shame people can't get passed politics, you would think we live in some communist country where you aren't free to say something.
babadoo, what a ridiculous comment.Just because Bruce hated George Bush and all he stood for didn't mean he hated America. He has always written about the lives of people that Bush and his cronies despised not the rich bankers who have ruined the american economy.
Joe, rich bankers have not ruined America. Government mandates that everyone get a govt secured mortgage bid up the price of homes into the bubble that burst causing our current problem. Bush gave the most $ to international aids relief, no-child-left-behind, biggest perscription drug bill, etc. You've been drinking the liberal koolaid. Born In the USA isn't a proud anthem. It's all about complaining.
You have a problem. Are you one of those uptight "liberals ruin my life, kill them all, and hand me my money while your at it" people? Cause' you sure sound like one.
He has made some rockin' songs, but this is not one of them. Cliche production and sound. Too bad his hate America politics get in the way of enjoying his work.
Ahah, he never claims to hate America. It was George Bush's polotics and views he hated. It's really sad when someone comes on to a video on Youtube just to post a comment on a video of an artist they want to complain about.
There is NOTHING more American than Bruce!!He stands for all that is positive about America, & the things he's against are corporate greed, endless war,& the elite wealthy sticking it to middle America. This guy has had the same play book since he first hit the scene in 1973!!!Don't get it twisted:Bruce Springsteen has the type of credibility, substance & character that represents all of the greatness of the American people.Where as the religious-right,& neo-conservatism have sank this country!
