  • long live the Cross Eyed Mary's of the world

  • Love to see/and or hear all these jems I haven't heard before.....................thanks for the posts

  • Une de mes chansons préférées de Jethro !

  • Tull is just plain ahead period; neither time nor heavy guitar enter into it.

  • Good to listen to when on long boring drives, keeps you wide awake

  • Good to use for keeping awake while driving.

  • Ah!!!!! such awesome memories, to be peaking in Tull's audience. We were definately fortunate to have part of the greatest music era in history.

  • @MrPhilchico Amen, baby...Moodiy Blues, Tull, Alan PArsons, how lucky can an aware generation be?

    Tom Loughlin Jr, Utica NY

  • awesome!!!

  • Wow, the best live version I've heard so far!! Performance and soundwise!...It is true that all other versions pale in comparison like billfrog2 said earlier....

  • Une des premières fois que j'entends une version live de Cross-Eyed Mary.

  • All otr versions pale in comparison

    .Live

    Real

    Raw

  • A classic as it was meant to be played

  • I photographed Jethro Tull in 1976. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Smoking cigs and playing the flute. Wonder if he still smoke's?

  • Ummm, alnico magnets were around back then...

  • try zeppelin

  • Nobody else was using flutes like this in 1971 :D

  • @soopawhoops bullshit

You had the MC5 around, who were even harder. Rush, zeppalin, and deep purple

    ... others I can't remember.

  • @Polybun I guess you meant RichieEastside, because I was only answering him with a stupid little joke ;)

  • What? Really? Have you not ever heard of MC5 or The Stooges?

  • Jethro is always a pleasure!!

  • I have a bootleg album (LP) from this concert! Didn't know it was Berkeley , nothing is mentioned on the "sleeve"!

  • Listening to the intro i must have this version on a bootleg album!1

  • saw them back in 72,cant remember what they played I was too fuckin stoned, but did have a good f in time.

Baririe was there he spoke to us befor ethe show, some ither guys from the band too,but cant remember.I think it was Jeffery, not sure, chaps were cool and friendly.good pot was on hand!

so freakin good memories, missed that era so much.

    viva Tull!

  • Jethro Tull sounded A LOT better live then in the studio.

  • @Pasalaqcua I agree. Every one of their songs is better live than on their albums.

  • Nobody else was using guitars this hard in 1971. Tull were way too ahead of their time.

  • @RichieEastside of course its a matter of opinion, but YES 's Steve Howe would be an arguable contender IMO I think a live version of Roundabout is on YT do check it pretty badass. Peace.

  • @RichieEastside You never heard Wishbone Ash or Humble Pie? But Tull did kick ass.

  • @RichieEastside stop it...listen to live at leeds and tell me about hard guitar

  • @chichigord stop it... listen to tony iommi and tell me about hard guitar

  • @assweaverproductions Do you honestly think a guy who is referencing The Who on a Jethro Tull posting has no Black Sabbath in his cache?

  • @chichigord no i dont actually, the who are like the beatles...pussys

  • @assweaverproductions The Who are nothing like the Beatles and far from pussies educate yourself

  • @assweaverproductions oh that's not fair... Keith Moon had one hell of a hook... just ask Pete Townshend. The only thing ringo star, he had a hook... a hook nose.

  • @chichigord exept the power slide..... thats badass

  • @chichigord like the man said no one else was doing this hard guitar back then..........

  • @chichigord

Thank you for that. If it's okay with you I will now officially consider that to be my favorite all time you tube comment. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.

  • @RichieEastside Uhh, that's an overstatement. Go to listen to Black Sabbath's first album.

  • @VirtualDynamite I have...it's a pretty good record, but I still prefer the guitar tone used by Barre on "Aqualung". Also, FYI, Tony Iommi played with Jethro Tull for a very short while. I think he only performed live with them once. I think it was in '68 or '69 or something like that.

  • @RichieEastside Actually I take back that black sabbath statement. If you really want to "ahead of their time" in terms of guitar, look up High Tide - Sea Shanties if you have never heard of them before. They are probably a little bit more acknowledged in england, since it was one of the most important underground prog rock bands in England 69. It's not very well known at all in America though, one of the most underrated bands of all time IMO.

  • @VirtualDynamite Cool, I'll make sure to check that out! Thanks for the tip =)

  • @RichieEastside Try anything by Leslie West around that time as well

  • @RichieEastside Cream, Hendrix, Sabbath, Zeppelin??

  • @RichieEastside pretty sure cream, sabbath, deep purple, zeppelin, MC5, The Who

  • @RichieEastside ever heard of Black Sabbath?

  • @RichieEastside Did you mean to say that no one used the flute this hard?

  • @RichieEastside lol! ? ever hear of led zeppelin >_<?

  • ,,they were kicking Black Sabbath's ass to !

  • raw !!

thanks for post this gem !!

  • rummage through the past, see what you can see.

Find a sodden grief..., realise the find is me.

We wear our wounds like a badge, lawmen, cops and whores, un-inviting, we are a bore.

    Die willing..., die quietly.

  • "A very nice song about a very common, average, ordinary, little 12 year-old from a Catholic prostitute called Cross-eyed Mary."

LOL....great stuff...thanks sooo much for sharing this gem.

  • Arnold Lane reborn.....never noticed before now....only in the fairy tales, do tellers speak the truth, no? thank you!

  • @rubyrose456 I guess Cross-Dressing Mary wouldn't be right?;) ;)

  • She's the Robin Hood of HighGate!
