  • @playsapocby4cellos If you could send me a copy of the cello scores that would be amazing, i'm thinking of playing this piece for my HSC, (yr 12 exam) but am unsure if i should transcribe myself. I really like your version

    Thanks :D

  • @JAYKAYsushi

haha, it's just in the works right now. Mostly it's just the violin part an octave down. You might wanna take a try at your own, I'm really not sure if some if it is playable right now

  • Sir,

I held back tears when I saw and heard your performance. You play from the soul. Do you know the violist, Jerzy Kosmala? He plays from the soul as you do.

Thanks for your generous posting. I am inspired to take my playing higher and learn much from simply watching you play.

  • Great work,it's interesting and very cool virtuose piece for concerts!!!I like it!)Bravo,it's realy fantastic plaing....How can I find this scores?for viola and Piano..I'd like to play it...Who can help me,please!!!

  • I think you play it wonderful! My teacher has just give me this peace, and it´s very nice to get some inspiration from you! Thank you.

  • Sir,

Is this piece trancribed for the viola or did you just transpose it by yourself?

    Thank you.

  • I like your head movements. Very expressive - I thought it could have used a bit less vibrato (in my personal opinion of course), but overall, very nice(:

  • man do you hold your viola werid lol its so low

  • Absolutely Great!

I know Tertis Version and I love it and now I discover yours which is truly splendid.

You have a real Viola Sound which I love it.

    Bravo again!

  • Absolutely Great!

I Know the Tertis version and now I love yours too. This is real viola sound.

    Bravo again!

  • You sir, are a great player.

  • Hey I play on a Bronek Cison as well! Mine's from '98. Great tone!

  • I can feel the power almost as if i were there, Great Sound Evan.

  • Woow brilliant! Do you know where I can get the PDF for Viola's?

  • sehr gute!

  • someone have the score VIOLA version pdf of this piece of kriesler pls?? , i dont find it.. :(,

  • great...i played this piece when i was younger on violin!... now i play viola also... nice idea to transcribe that... it fits perfect for viola!! :D

    you played it great! :D

  • I love your sound. In fact, I tried to model my vibrato after yours! :)

  • Wow you're amazing!!!

I'm starting studing this praeludium and allegro and now you made me get scared of it!!!

Now I don't know how am I going to get a good sound hahaha

  • I really want to play this on viola!!! Does anyone have the transcribed sheet music??

  • @mikkid101 its available on shar music's website. i ordered it from there

  • I am always amazed by real viola players. As a violinist, Ive just recently started to play the viola. Its such a nice instrument, its a shame that people dont appreciate it as much as it should be. My biggest respect goes to the viola and the viola players. Well done. Ive really enjoyed your perdormance :)

  • i need to play this to :s (i'm 13 years old =p) have you any advice?

  • Amazing song played by an amazing violist! great work

  • @TasteyDoich Great work! An amazing violist playing an amazing song!

  • Bravo, Maestro! Thank you for uploading this fine version of the Kreisler.

  • Hi=) I play the viola to at a conservatoire in norway, and LOVE it! what viola and strings are you using?

  • this is amazing.

how long did you prepare for this?

  • Thank you for your kind words. Well I'm 48 now so it would take a week or two but back when I first transcribed it just a couple of days.

  • vibrato.... should not influence intonation.

But, I like your bow arm very much!

    nice playing.

  • Sunyuloveu- as a rule I agree intonation should not influence intonation BUT!!! close your eyes and listen to Totellier's Bach, to MIscha Maisky's Bach, listen to Violist Lillian Fuchs cello suites , then listen to Rostropovich. My vibrato can do any type vibrato from finger vibrato to wrist, to arm and even from the shoulder. So now go back and listen to the performance and see if you can find the reasons then Good luck and thanks for listening

  • Hello Wilsonviola!! I had left you a comment not to long ago about this and I have been wondering about it ever since, where did you find this music for viola?

  • @wilsonviola Wonderful playing!!!! And thank you very much from sharing! Beautiful powerful vibrato!!!

  • are you crazy, be careful what you say online, that is evan wilson.

  • This is my Viola!!!My like Viola!!

  • wow this is the first time i have heard this performed on viola. I love it. I play viola as well.not as good, but hopefully by the time i get to college =-]

Do you know where I could find music for this??

  • Comment removed

  • Well I've never heard Tertis' recording but I'll take that as compliment...thanks

  • I just listened to this four times. I am absolutely stunned. I am a musician, and I know for a fact that this is perfection whether you agree with me or not.

  • pardon the ignorance, but what's the difference between a Violist and a Violinist? :)

  • A viola is a bit larger and lower key

  • It's also played a quite a bit differently. Bow grip has to be much more involved to get enough power to properly pull the longer strings with a good tone. In general, much more bodily contact with the instrument is wanted.

  • well a viola's bigger and has a C string which is the lower than the violin's lowest string, the G string

  • It's absolutely gospel truth that we ( violists) can be "as virtuosic and technically brilliant as violinists"

    Thank U for writing this

    greetings from Poland :)

  • i think this is my fav piece of classic ever made, this is great but i gotta admit i love it more on violin ..

  • in my opinion praeludium and allegro sounds MUCH better on the viola than the violin. I was looking all over for a violist version of this piece, but only found violins. FINALLY someone plays it. THANK YOU.

  • Bravo. I am a student in LA studying with Paul Coletti. Will you be playing in LA anytime next year?

  • wow

  • absolutely thrilling

you're amazing, I'm startiing viola so I can make it into a arts school which I tried out for on the piano, but they don't have a piano, so i need to learn the viola in 3 months. Your performance isnpires me to practice. I have a question, what do I do about a chin/shoulder rest that feels uncomfortable, i've got a kun and a wooden chin rest and it's so painful to play that I can't practice, so any help is appreciated. Once again amazing, best video on there. Just amazing!

  • That's really all a matter of preference and body type/viola style. A private instructor should be able to help you sort that out.

  • Hi, I love your rendition a lot~ I have been listening to it for a lot of times! Thank you for playing us such a great piece!

  • omg 4:45

  • Thank you very much

  • Thank you very much. Bronek Cison. 16 5/8 helicore D,G,C and Chromcor plus A

  • @wilsonviola hey i play on a Broneck Cison as well! bought through WH Lee. great instruments!

  • this is so great that it doesn't need a comment

  • You are very kind

  • I get chills when this this clip is over.

I am sure that Evan would think we all could reach this level of playing. You need to learn, learn and learn more about the best way to draw sound and flawless technique to play like this.

Along the way if you miss how to make the instrument create emotion your doing something wrong.

  • Profound playing!

  • Thanks for your compliment

  • I think your playing is quite simply perfect!

  • You are way too kind-thank you

  • This piece is so good because you can TELL that he enjoys, and means what he plays. He has complete control, the music is just pouring from him effortlessly.

  • I do love this piece- but I really feel we as violists can be just as virtuosic and technically brilliant as violinists.

  • WOW! :)

  • 5 stars here, very dramatic, hope i can play it the way you make your viola sings. whats the size of your viola? brand? and string? thanks

  • wilson you are a god!

  • omg!!! wow!!

  • just music!

  • great hearing this piece on viola

  • can I just say....look at that man's bow control...i'm am so impressed...that's incredible

  • I agree. Vibrato is appropriate, and hes got SOUL.

  • Mr. Wilson... you obviously have a lot of technical mastery, but I am wondering why your vibrato is so wide and (to me) seemingly exaggerated. I am a violist myself, never having touched a violin til age 19, but I have never quite heard vibrato like yours on viola before. Is it something you employ just for Kreisler?

  • meh. i've heard it this wide on many a colleague, i think it's got unique voice and fits. I'd rather have violists sounding unique while it's still more obscure than violin. I understand where you are coming from, I heard Chung's Brahms violin sonata no.1 on youtube and was turned off by how fast and narrow the vibrato was at first. Perhaps it's not always so much the player, but the audience that may have to be accustomed to many sound styles... not unlike diff kinds of food

  • but nevertheless nice cmment

  • Great Playing! Beautiful sound from an underrated instrument.

  • the lyricism is just breathtaking...what a magnificent palette of colors you have created! thanks so much for posting!!!

  • Beautiful performance Evan! Noam Dworman

  • An excellent performance. Thanks for posting it. I miss the viola so hearing this selection reawakened me to the versatility and beauty of the instrument. Great accompanist as well. Cheers.

  • WOW! You are amazing! I am so jealous! I am a high school student and have been playing the viola for 9 years...a few weeks ago I heard this song on the violin and loved it. I found the music and am now attempting to play it! I watch this video 3 times a day now and it is really helping me to learn the piece! Thank you!!

  • Hi, Mr. Wilson, Can you please tell me about your viola? How old it is, and where you got it from?

    Thanks!

  • fredman you are without a doubt a moron haha oh god...ahahhahahahah

  • And to think that until a few days ago when I started a You Tube account, I thought this website was a frivolous pasttime. I have discoved a treasure chest of classical music videos and yours is one more jewel to be added to my playlist. Beautiful. Thank you.

  • pierre fournier should have played singing like this, man. Thankyou another time. Diego (Roma)

  • I got crying after the prelude, thankyou, how great musician you are.....italian cellist...

  • Mille Grazie. I am deeply touched by your words.

    Thank you, evan

  • wow ..ok i play violin...

    i play this peice..

    and this guy is pro..period.....

to find this music... guys..just get the violin part..and if you can read tremble clef.....walla!

    just play~

  • ohMyGOD..THE FAMOUS EVAN WILSON!~ PRINCIPAL VIOLIST LA PHIL@!!!!!!!!!!!! PURE VIOLA VIBRATO

  • BRAVO!!! One of the best of violin sounds just as good on Viola. Man I'd love to get my hands on that music...

  • Just got back and saw your comment. Thank you VERY much for your kind words but I have to tell you- that is a viola sound- not a violin sound. Big difference.

    Thanks again

  • I think you misunderstood me, what I meant was that one of the greats for violin sounds just as great for viola. Once again that was fantastic.

  • Thanks Bud

  • wow@yall saying "sounds better than the violin"...gotta be kidding me..

    violin reigns supreme..still..

not just because im a violinist :)

  • This is awesome,..I play viola as well and cannot find it transcribed for viola anywhere,...only a watered down version,..if you could please tell me where you ordered it from. Great Job,..it's gorgeous! Thanks for posting!!! -Christy

  • im learning this, just u have to transpose it down the fifth yourself. Its really simple if you know how to play violin. Just read the music like your on violin and play it on the viola :). Warning to ya Christy, this piece is stupid hard on viola...im having a really hard time getting clean notes at this speed.

  • Christy- Viola World Publications has a viola edition. I would recommend learning it from the original violin music since some notes have been changed.Best.

    e

  • wow that was reeally beautiful........ im going to be playing this song for nyssma and i neede to find a viola part so i can hear it... this jus made me want to play it even more........ you made it look way to hard but that jus makes me want to do it more

  • This is one of my favorite songs, the job in viola is very beautiful and the interpretations is really stirring. Congratulations!!!

  • Well done! I like it very much. It sounds much better than on the violin. BRAVO!!!

  • Who are you?

  • checkout evanwilson

with the usual 3 consonants and . before the name

and the usual . and 3 letters after the name

  • I love this peice, it's so much nicer on the viola...not to mention much harder. He does a wonderful job.

  • Really beautiful. I love your vibrato. :)

  • so beautiful and moving!

  • Absolutely the best and most enjoyable rendition of this brilliant piece. and I've got some great violinists playing it. How do you get your bow over those thick strings so briliantly? The allegro just suits your playing so well (or vice versa?) Please post more.

  • BRAVO (from a violinist) but wish there had been more footage of your entire stance rather than so much of your lovely pate...

  • god damn is that funny!

  • Great control over vibrato, amazing viola sound. Evan is the Bomb =)

  • stunning playing!! please post more your performance.

  • i don't get it. it supposed to be a violin piece, right? :P

hahaa.. well done!! and it was not insane!!!

  • Lemme guess... violinist? Well, I hate the violin. It takes alot moret alent to be able to play the viola. And there arent that many viola composers... so what are we suposed to do?

  • Dear Fredman,

With all due respect, if you listened to the tone and vibrato you would know I am no violinist. It's a pet peeve of mine- violinists posing as violists. You're right about repetoire- that's why I transcribed this virtuoso piece. Thanks for listening.enw

  • Ohhhhhhhh! Sorry if I offended you, your very good (way better than I could ever hope to be) Idk, and oh yeah, might I inquire as to who you have studdied with? I guess I just saw alot of violin technique, or something. Idk.

  • are you that much of an idiot? this guy is principal viola (for 20 years) of los angeles phil. he attended juilliard. studied with lincer. performs regularly worldwide with all the great symphonies and the a1 rated performers. i have begun marking fred as spam. why not ignore the jerk and just mark him as spam, eh?

  • It's spelled Juilliard. There are some fantastic viola teachers there. That doesn't mean that is the only place to study, but it's for sure not bad!

  • Sorry, I didn't mean TALENT!!! I meant to say, it takes alot more work in my oppinion. But only because it's so big, and such different technique (I have no idea how to spell that) I apollogize.

  • its great to finally listen to this great piece on viola. I love your interpretation. Very nice.

  • Fred perhaps you should not try to critique Evan and his abilities. You can learn so much from this video and his other recordings on his web site. I hope your having a good summer Evan!!

  • That's not what I entended to do. I've only been playing for 8-8 1/2 years. It's none of my buisness to tell ANYONE how to play the viola. I was just inquiering as to if he has studdied with a violinist! I didn't mean to make an ass out of myself! (pardon the expression) I guess I'm just grumppy after all these years of playing such a monsterous instrument! It's a pain in the neck! *No pun intended*

  • Enjoyed it Ev!

  • that was insane dude.
