@playsapocby4cellos If you could send me a copy of the cello scores that would be amazing, i'm thinking of playing this piece for my HSC, (yr 12 exam) but am unsure if i should transcribe myself. I really like your version
haha, it's just in the works right now. Mostly it's just the violin part an octave down. You might wanna take a try at your own, I'm really not sure if some if it is playable right now
I held back tears when I saw and heard your performance. You play from the soul. Do you know the violist, Jerzy Kosmala? He plays from the soul as you do.
Thanks for your generous posting. I am inspired to take my playing higher and learn much from simply watching you play.
Great work,it's interesting and very cool virtuose piece for concerts!!!I like it!)Bravo,it's realy fantastic plaing....How can I find this scores?for viola and Piano..I'd like to play it...Who can help me,please!!!
I like your head movements. Very expressive - I thought it could have used a bit less vibrato (in my personal opinion of course), but overall, very nice(:
I am always amazed by real viola players. As a violinist, Ive just recently started to play the viola. Its such a nice instrument, its a shame that people dont appreciate it as much as it should be. My biggest respect goes to the viola and the viola players. Well done. Ive really enjoyed your perdormance :)
Sunyuloveu- as a rule I agree intonation should not influence intonation BUT!!! close your eyes and listen to Totellier's Bach, to MIscha Maisky's Bach, listen to Violist Lillian Fuchs cello suites , then listen to Rostropovich. My vibrato can do any type vibrato from finger vibrato to wrist, to arm and even from the shoulder. So now go back and listen to the performance and see if you can find the reasons then Good luck and thanks for listening
Hello Wilsonviola!! I had left you a comment not to long ago about this and I have been wondering about it ever since, where did you find this music for viola?
wow this is the first time i have heard this performed on viola. I love it. I play viola as well.not as good, but hopefully by the time i get to college =-]
I just listened to this four times. I am absolutely stunned. I am a musician, and I know for a fact that this is perfection whether you agree with me or not.
It's also played a quite a bit differently. Bow grip has to be much more involved to get enough power to properly pull the longer strings with a good tone. In general, much more bodily contact with the instrument is wanted.
in my opinion praeludium and allegro sounds MUCH better on the viola than the violin. I was looking all over for a violist version of this piece, but only found violins. FINALLY someone plays it. THANK YOU.
you're amazing, I'm startiing viola so I can make it into a arts school which I tried out for on the piano, but they don't have a piano, so i need to learn the viola in 3 months. Your performance isnpires me to practice. I have a question, what do I do about a chin/shoulder rest that feels uncomfortable, i've got a kun and a wooden chin rest and it's so painful to play that I can't practice, so any help is appreciated. Once again amazing, best video on there. Just amazing!
I am sure that Evan would think we all could reach this level of playing. You need to learn, learn and learn more about the best way to draw sound and flawless technique to play like this.
Along the way if you miss how to make the instrument create emotion your doing something wrong.
This piece is so good because you can TELL that he enjoys, and means what he plays. He has complete control, the music is just pouring from him effortlessly.
Mr. Wilson... you obviously have a lot of technical mastery, but I am wondering why your vibrato is so wide and (to me) seemingly exaggerated. I am a violist myself, never having touched a violin til age 19, but I have never quite heard vibrato like yours on viola before. Is it something you employ just for Kreisler?
meh. i've heard it this wide on many a colleague, i think it's got unique voice and fits. I'd rather have violists sounding unique while it's still more obscure than violin. I understand where you are coming from, I heard Chung's Brahms violin sonata no.1 on youtube and was turned off by how fast and narrow the vibrato was at first. Perhaps it's not always so much the player, but the audience that may have to be accustomed to many sound styles... not unlike diff kinds of food
An excellent performance. Thanks for posting it. I miss the viola so hearing this selection reawakened me to the versatility and beauty of the instrument. Great accompanist as well. Cheers.
WOW! You are amazing! I am so jealous! I am a high school student and have been playing the viola for 9 years...a few weeks ago I heard this song on the violin and loved it.
