100% legal. As long as the ball is snapped to another player its fair game. Im the varsity punter for my school and we ran this exact play once in our season and it worked but not as well. We got down to the 2 yard line. But then proceeded to score the next play.
Its legal. As long as the long snapper and another player made an exchange of the football, regardless of if it is conventional or not, it is a center exchange which makes it a perfectly legal play.
@licky02 Not terrible tackling, terrible decision by the ball carrier to run in front of his blockers not giving them a chance to block the punt returner without hitting him in the back.
I go to south effingham(btw its a county not a city) anyway i was at that game. I was pissed when i thought that the ball went over the punters head. Then i saw the upback running down the feild with it and was like damn good play call.
Funny how the returner still gets tackled after being a dumbass and running straight ahead with a 6 man convoy to the end zone. He should've followed his blocks and not gotten touched but oh well still a touchdown
theoretically, he would have had at least 6 blockers to block the returnman. Instead of slowing down and let them do their job, he ran for himself and could get the touchdown in a last ditch effort. don't wanna hear the coach if he failed..
well i blame the coach, me being a center in high school, the coaches should preach watch the ball. you move with the ball not with the players....as far as being illegal? haha you have to be joking
What couldn't one of his 7 blockers get to the return guy and knock him out? LMAO! the guy had to work to make to the endzone. just about didn't. yeah its legal too me.
@stecz11 because the snapper never snapped the ball.the guy just took the football away from the snapper and returned it for a TD.Bad call by the officials.
@espben360 "The guy just took the football away from the snapper"??? Really? isn't that what a quarterback does when he positions himself over center? It's not like "they guy" picked the ball up off the ground. The center handed it to him. That's legal! No question about it. There should be no debate. The officials' no-call was the RIGHT call.
lol i was on the punting team right tackle c/o 08 you cant tell by the video but you all have no idea how rocking that stadium was after that play, imagine 10,000 people freaking the fuck out, then after they stop freaking out another 5,000 booing lol i dont remember it being that big of a deal outside of the game. i dont remember even hearing about it again until now
my bad, the way I wrote this implied that I am accusing the coaches of always looking for a break from the refs. That's not what I meant and in the future I will be more careful when I type. What I mean is that some of the rebel fans are always crying foul when we lose, even when nothing illegal occurs. Our coaches should(and probably do), work on punt plays and teach their players to always be on watch for a fake. It was a smart play on coach maniors part, cause he knew we would not expect it.
Im a rebel alum, but it looked legal to me. We just got burned. Instead of always looking for a break, maybe our coaches should spend more time working on punt plays and teach the players to be alert for a possible fake at any time.
