Camry is a family vehicle but let's make no mistake. The Camry engine is the same one used in the Lotus Evora! Yes thats right the 3.5L v6 comes in the Lotus either natural or supercharged! But like mentioned before the Lotus is super light with it's aluminum frame. The Camry is actually pretty fast on a rolling start and the engine is bullet proof. BTW I don't own a Camry just sayin.
@supersnot04 all in all, the best camrys were 3rd gen from 92-94 92-93 for V6's, then 04-06 camry SE V6's 05-06 2ar-fe auto's, the 6-6.5 gen v6's and the 6.5 gen 4cyls. 4th gen was the dark ages of camry.
@supersnot04 the 5th gen camry was 1000 times better than the 4th gen. 4th gens were just a heavier unoriginal copy of the 3rd gen, minus the reliability. 5th gen camrys, especially after 05, were more economical, sporty, had way more power, and didnt have half the problems the 4th gen had. the best camry they make for performance is the new I4(also still has good fuel economy on the 4 cyl) and V6 SE, the most reliable, economical and still decent camry would be a 92-94 5fse camry.
there is no way that the camry has a huge advantage over the Si, Auto vs Manual. Stock vs Modded, power to weight ratio. face it honda, you got beat. march on over an Accord so it can race.
@kmfdeviant530 I don't think the Accord would fare as well, unless it's the coupe with 6MT. For some reason the sedan's can barely break under 7 sec 0-60 and 95ish in the 1/4 mile. They really need 6 gears.
the camry v6 is easily one of the most powerful engines to come right out of the factory. my friend has a 24 valve v6 and it passes v-8's on the road easily. it's just an amazing car with an equally amazing engine. and his is a 2003, we don't know if it has a tuning chip, but its performance is just mind blowing. and his car still drives like new. i've also noticed we are faster than some BMW's out there. the v6 24-valve is a reliable engine too, this engine lasts forever. and is still tight.
@johnnybabee Camry is rated 268 hp at the crank, not the wheel. It's only 227hp at the wheel. Camry is over 3400 lb vs Civic 2700-2900lb weight. Camry has automatic transmission vs Civic 6speed manual transmission. If the Camry had a manual transmission, the length would be much much farther.

@supersnot4 I had a 98 Camry, treated it rough as hell. There is a video on my profile of me taking it into the back of my farm with a small snow on the ground, which was melitng and getting muddy. My friend spun it out at 55mph and hit an embankment, and then backed into a tree with it. A lot happened to it, lol, and it never asked for anything. Brakes, oil, oil/air filters, and gasoline is all the car ever used. Owned it for 80k+ miles, traded it i at 235k. Still running perfect, I miss it :(

Worst problem I've ever had was an alternator on the E-350, due to the idiots at Jiffy Lube not tightening the battery cable. took 5 minutes to swap out a new one. I've also had a '98 Suburban and have a '96 Jimmy, both with their fair share of problems, and had an '01 Camry with huge tranny problems, and a '95 Corolla, with minor problems all around.
@supersnot4 You can get a lemon in anything, but there are more older toyota on the road around where I live (and datusn/nissan) than any other vehicle, and more camrys than almost anything. All I know is that I have had less touble out of all 5 Toyota's that i've had combined, than my s-10 and pontiac grand prix alone.

Camry is a family vehicle but let's make no mistake. The Camry engine is the same one used in the Lotus Evora! Yes thats right the 3.5L v6 comes in the Lotus either natural or supercharged! But like mentioned before the Lotus is super light with it's aluminum frame. The Camry is actually pretty fast on a rolling start and the engine is bullet proof. BTW I don't own a Camry just sayin.

@supersnot04 all in all, the best camrys were 3rd gen from 92-94 92-93 for V6's, then 04-06 camry SE V6's 05-06 2ar-fe auto's, the 6-6.5 gen v6's and the 6.5 gen 4cyls. 4th gen was the dark ages of camry.

@supersnot04 the 5th gen camry was 1000 times better than the 4th gen. 4th gens were just a heavier unoriginal copy of the 3rd gen, minus the reliability. 5th gen camrys, especially after 05, were more economical, sporty, had way more power, and didnt have half the problems the 4th gen had. the best camry they make for performance is the new I4(also still has good fuel economy on the 4 cyl) and V6 SE, the most reliable, economical and still decent camry would be a 92-94 5fse camry.

the camry v6 is easily one of the most powerful engines to come right out of the factory. my friend has a 24 valve v6 and it passes v-8's on the road easily. it's just an amazing car with an equally amazing engine. and his is a 2003, we don't know if it has a tuning chip, but its performance is just mind blowing. and his car still drives like new. i've also noticed we are faster than some BMW's out there. the v6 24-valve is a reliable engine too, this engine lasts forever. and is still tight.

@johnnybabee Camry is rated 268 hp at the crank, not the wheel. It's only 227hp at the wheel. Camry is over 3400 lb vs Civic 2700-2900lb weight. Camry has automatic transmission vs Civic 6speed manual transmission. If the Camry had a manual transmission, the length would be much much farther.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that camery at an advantage? sure the civic might have a better power to weight ratio, but isn't the camery at the advantage due to the better torque it gets with the v6 engine? i like both honda and toyota. i think they're both great automakers.

@tlv156 Does it matter? The Civc weighs so much lesser than a Camry. And if my information is correct, the Civic Si comes with 197hp(not at the wheel) at the crank with 139lb ft of torque and comes with 6speed manual transmission. The Camry comes with 268hp(not at the wheel) at the crank with 248lb ft of torque and comes with automatic transmission.

@supersnot4 I had a 98 Camry, treated it rough as hell. There is a video on my profile of me taking it into the back of my farm with a small snow on the ground, which was melitng and getting muddy. My friend spun it out at 55mph and hit an embankment, and then backed into a tree with it. A lot happened to it, lol, and it never asked for anything. Brakes, oil, oil/air filters, and gasoline is all the car ever used. Owned it for 80k+ miles, traded it i at 235k. Still running perfect, I miss it :(

@supersnot4 havnt had any real experience with any toyotas since 2000, besides owning a 2006 scion tc, which was the best car I ever owned, until it got flipped and totalled, it handled like a dream, was quick as I wanted it to be, and liked the exterior and interior styling (didnt like the black cherry pearl paint though, wanted it bright red). Tell you what though, I havnt seen many stock trucks that get around like our 78 ford 4x4, and it only has 31 10.50 15's (wrangler RTS) which are street

I love Fords, and have had a lot of experience with them, but have had more mechanical breakdowns with them than any of the Toyota's i've owned. Had a celica, corolla, camry and drive an 86 2WD pickup now. The vic snapped the passenger rear axle recently, on my to do list of repairs, lol.

@emgpickups1990 I've had an '89 F-250 302, '98 Ranger, '03 F-150, '03 E-350, and now have '07 and '08 F-150s and an '87 F-250 4X4 460. Worst problem I've ever had was an alternator on the E-350, due to the idiots at Jiffy Lube not tightening the battery cable. took 5 minutes to swap out a new one. I've also had a '98 Suburban and have a '96 Jimmy, both with their fair share of problems, and had an '01 Camry with huge tranny problems, and a '95 Corolla, with minor problems all around.

All I know is that I have had less touble out of all 5 Toyota's that i've had combined, than my s-10 and pontiac grand prix alone.
