a great rendition of this song. Thanks for sharing this slideshow video. Very well done. Lynn Deshazo delivers an on target message in this song. Make sure you listen to the version by CCUMC13209 Grace Alone.
cheemad, I must get this song!! I'm going to sing this song at my SDA church as my first solo ever, and all I can find of Michael W. Smith's Ancient Words are the songs with too much background singers instead of this one where I can listen to how he sings it and learn better! Will you help me out! It'd be great to put on my mp3. (If not, I think buying the album is my next best choice) -thanks!
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
I am a Christian but we observe the Sabbath on Saturday. It's for hard me to totally stay away from TV and the internet but I try not to make purchases or leave the house until sunset. God want us to trust him and to forget our worries and rest and think nothing but his Greatness and Goodness on the Sabbath a lot of Christians refuse to accept and observe the true Sabbath and they keep eating pork and everything that was condemened in the Exodus. It's for ALL People not just Jews/Hebrews.
Nope. Read Acts 15. There were Pharisees who decided to put unnecessary burdens on the new Gentile Christians by requiring them to be circumcised and to keep the law of Moses. Peter said in verse 10, "Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither out fathers nor we were able to bear?"
Acts 10:10-15 also speaks directly to the issue of clean and unclean foods. It's okay to eat bacon.
If observing the Sabbath is a yolk around our necks, that would mean that the other 9 commandments are also, rigth? Why would the sabbath be a yolk but not the other nine if they are all part of the "law of moses"? Sorry but that doesn't make sense to me. God's law does not change (Matt 5:17-18)and we as christians are expected to observe ALL his commandments, not just nine. Early christians understood this including Paul. He observed the sabbath (Acts 13:14,18:4,13:42-44,16:13).
There are three types of OT law: moral law, ceremonial law, and civil law. Moral law is applicable for all time. These are the things dealing with sinful acts and attitudes. Cermonial law deals with ceremonial things, like what the High Priest does, and these were all fulfilled in Christ. Civil law deals with observances like dietary codes and so on, and have been made obsolete in Christ. We are no longer bound to the civil law.
I agree. We are not under civil law but the fourth commandment is part of moral law. As you said Moral law deals with sinful acts and attitudes. The sabbath is about our attitude toward God as creator and our sustainer. We are to honor him becasue of who he is. If it were civil law then there would be no need to worship God on sabbath or even sunday for that matter because the commandment would have been nullified. That is not the case.
I did not say we are not to observe the Sabbath. I said just the opposite. We do need a time in which we set aside other things and purely reflect on God.
Regarding pork ... Acts 10:10-15 is not about being allowed to eat unclean foods. It is about changing the way that Paul thought about the Gentiles. Understand that until then he was only preaching to jews. Gentiles were thought as being unclean. Read Acts 10:27-29. Paul himself explains the meaning of the dream. I can guarantee that after this dream Paul all of a sudden did not start eating pork, lobster, shrimp, etc. He understood the real meaning and so must we.
I understand the real meaning of it. But if the food itself wasn't also clean, God would not have used it as the example in Peter's (not Paul's) dream.
I think christians are making an assumption that was not intended by the dream otherwise Peter (thanks for the correction) would have made a comment about it or we would have seen it somewhere else in the NT. Besides these were given to us for our own good as were the other sanitary laws in Leviticus. It gives us the ability to live healthy lives . Why would God change that?
The health and sanitary laws given by God have served as the basis for the good health practices that we now have in modern society and have been confirmed by science. The same as God's moral law has served as the basis of our current law.
I believe that we are no longer bound by law as to what foods we eat. But I do agree that God wants us to care for our bodies, which is something that a lot of Christians fail to do. But I do believe that the dietary codes are a part of the civil law. Nothing in the NT binds Christians to adhere to the dietary codes.
With regard to the Sabbath, in most cultures, Sunday is the seventh day of the week, not Saturday.
But I don't believe that we are bound to any certain day of the week. The important thing is the principle of the Sabbath, that whatever day we observe it we spend resting and reflecting on God's Word.
Just because it is cultural does not make it right. That is putting man's beliefs over God's law. If it is ok to do it with this commandment, then can we apply the same concept to all the others? Is it ok to steal from the rich to give to the poor because it is morally better? How about in other countries where honor killing is culturally acceptable? Does that make killing right there but not here? I don't believe God's law is as flexible as people would like to think.
I don't think you understood my point. I was saying that there is nothing to say that Saturday has to be the sabbath. If people want to observe the sabbath on Sunday, that is just fine.
I grew up in a Christian home, and in short, I took it for granted that the Bible was just words. Then I strayed far, far away, and got lost in the mess of life. These very same words I once ignored are what brought me home.
Our entire church is reading through the Bible in 2008, and Ancient Words is our theme for the year. We've learned to sing this song, and I'm so glad to have found this video. Thank You!
